Hyde Park was a cricket ground in Sheffield on a site now used for high-rise community flats. It took the name of fields that occupied the area in the early 19th century. Hyde Park was used for important matches between 1830 and 1854. It opened in 1826 and was adopted by Sheffield Cricket Club as a home venue, replacing Darnall New Ground, from 1830 until 1854. It was itself superseded in April 1855 by Bramall Lane. Hyde Park staged the first "Roses Match" between Yorkshire and Lancashire in July 1849.

City Goods station

City Goods was a goods station, belonging to the London and North Western Railway, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The London and North Western Railway presence in Sheffield began in 1895 when it opened a small goods station on Bernard Road. The company opened a ¾-mile branch eastwards from Woodburn Junction to what was then called their Sheffield City Goods terminal on Bernard Road. Its first line in the steel city was inadequate in the eyes of the LNWR as it was buried under its rivals' network of lines. The company obtained powers to build a more suitable establishment. The site chosen was at the corner of Broad Street and Wharf Street, behind the Corn Exchange, ¾ mile west of their terminus on Bernard Road. A tunnel under the Nunnery Colliery goods line was necessary as well as a bridge above the Midland Main Line (MML), just north of Midland station. The exit of the tunnel was directly above the MML and connected to a bridge above the main railway line. It then continued west to the depot on red brick arches. The depot building itself was three storeys high and covered 94,260 ft²; it possessed two 20-ton hydraulic lifts capable of carrying 10-ton wagons down to the basement (actually at street level). The yard opened in February 1903 and Bernard Road depot was kept open to deal with heavier loads. To avoid confusion, Bernard Road goods was renamed Nunnery Goods and the title of City Goods passed on to the new goods yard. The depot closed on 12 July 1965 when a large new freight transshipment and engine depot opened at Grimesthorpe.

Sheffield Wicker railway station

Wicker railway station (later Wicker Goods railway station) was the first railway station to be built in Sheffield, England. It was to the north of the city centre, at the northern end of the Wicker, in the fork formed by Spital Hill and Savile Street. It was opened on 31 October 1838 as the southern terminus of the Sheffield and Rotherham Railway, which ran north to Rotherham Westgate railway station. In 1840, the line was connected to the North Midland Railway at Rotherham Masborough railway station. Carriages from Sheffield would be attached to North Midland trains for onward travel. A southbound curve was added in 1869. On 1 January 1847, a half-mile connecting line from the Wicker to the Bridgehouses station of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway had been constructed in order to increase goods traffic and enable wagon transfers. This short steeply graded line, enclosed within a tunnel for almost its entire length was known locally as the Fiery Jack.Wicker was replaced as a passenger station by Sheffield Midland Station on 1 February 1870 when the Midland Railway opened a new direct route from Chesterfield to just north of Wicker, now part of the Midland Main Line. Railway workers refer to this route as the "New Road", as opposed to the "Old Road" of the original North Midland line. It has gradients of 1 in 100, a viaduct and three tunnels, including Bradway Tunnel, 2,027 yards (1,853 m) long. Wicker remained open as a goods station until 1965 and has now been demolished. The site is currently occupied by a Tesco Extra supermarket, having previously contained car dealerships and was, until 2006 when the Spital Hill / Savile Street corner was remodelled as part of the Sheffield Northern Relief Road, the home of Amanda King's Made In Sheffield sculpture, now removed.
