Ishikawajima do Brasil Estaleiros S.A commonly known as ISHIBRÁS was a shipbuilding company based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.The company belonged to the Japanese multinational Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI Corporation), and settled in Brazil in the late 1950s. The company was sold to the Emaq-Verolme consortium in 1994.The Brazilian subsidiary, in addition to the ships it has built cranes for ships and cranes for quays and loading yards, and crawler excavators used in the mining area.

The Arsenal de Marinha do Rio de Janeiro (AMRJ) is a military organization of the Brazilian Navy. It is located in Ilha das Cobras, at the Guanabara Bay, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The Arsenal is the main maintenance center and naval base of the Brazilian Navy, involving the design, construction and maintenance of ships and submarines, not only for the Brazilian Navy, but also to friendly nations. The AMRJ provides shipbuilding services both for military strategic reasons (mastery of technologies, seeking the reduction of external dependence), as economic ones, seeking nationalisation of components and the encouragement of domestic industry. Beside the AMRJ, the Brazilian Navy also has naval bases, that act in support of the Naval Districts, ships in transit or in specific technical areas. Among them are the Naval Base of Aratu, the Naval Base of Val-de-Cães and the River Base of Ladário.

USS McAnn (DE-179) was a Cannon-class destroyer escort built for the United States Navy during World War II. She served in the Atlantic Ocean and provided escort service against submarine and air attack for Navy vessels and convoys. As Bauru she is preserved by the Brazilian Navy at Rio de Janeiro.

The Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat (Portuguese: Abadia de Nossa Senhora do Monserrate), more commonly known as the Mosteiro de São Bento (Monastery of St. Benedict), is a Benedictine abbey located on the Morro de São Bento (St. Benedict Hill) in downtown Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Mannerist style church is a primary example of Portuguese colonial architecture in Rio and the country. The abbey was founded by Benedictine monks who came from the state of Bahia in 1590. It is still operational today, along with the Colégio de São Bento (St. Benedict College) nearby. The college, established in 1858, is one of the most important traditional educational establishments in Brazil and claims many famous alumni. The abbey includes the Faculdade de São Bento (St. Benedict Seminary), with courses in theology and philosophy that are recognized by the Ministry of Education. Theological studies at the monastery are also affiliated with the Pontifical Atheneum of St. Anselm in Rome.

The Banco do Brasil Cultural Center (Portuguese: Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil) in Rio de Janeiro, also known as CCBB Rio de Janeiro or CCBB RJ, is located on Primeiro de Março Street, opposite Largo da Candelária, in the Central Zone of the city, and has a built-up area of 19,243 square meters. It belongs to a complex of cultural spaces managed and maintained by Banco do Brasil.According to a survey published by The Art Newspaper in April 2014, the CCBB RJ was considered the 21st most visited art museum in the world, attracting a total of 2,034,397 visitors in 2013. According to the same portal, the exhibition Picasso and Spanish Modernity, held at the cultural center, was considered the most visited post-impressionist and modern exhibition in the world in 2015.

The Museum of Tomorrow (Portuguese: Museu do Amanhã) is a science museum in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was designed by Spanish neofuturistic architect Santiago Calatrava, and built next to the waterfront at Pier Maua. Its construction was supported by the Roberto Marinho Foundation and cost approximately 230 million reais. The building was opened on December 17, 2015, with President Dilma Rousseff in attendance.

Ilha Fiscal, or Fiscal Island, is an island in Guanabara Bay, bordering the historic city center of Rio de Janeiro, in southeastern Brazil. Originally named by Europeans as Rat Island (Portuguese: Ilha dos Ratos), its current name comes from the fact that the customs department has been stationed there before Guarda Fiscal, serving the port of the then-capital of the Empire during the nineteenth century. The customs offices were housed at a Neo-Gothic palace built under Pedro II, which occupies most of the island. The island became famous as the site of the famous Fiscal Island Ball (Portuguese: Baile da Ilha Fiscal), the last royal ball of the Empire before the coup d'état that proclaimed the Republic in November 1889.

The Seaplane Baby Clipper NC 16933 Crash took place in Rio de Janeiro on August 13, 1939. The aircraft, owned by Pan Am, was flying Miami-Rio, with stops in the cities of Antilla, Port-au-Prince, San Pedro de Macorís, San Juan, Port of Spain, Georgetown, Paramaribo, Cayenne, Belém, São Luís, Fortaleza, Natal, João Pessoa, Recife, Maceió, Aracaju, Salvador, Caravelas and Vitória. This would be the first accident of a Pan Am aircraft in Brazil.

Colégio de São Bento is a Benedictine school for boys in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a history that dates back more than 150 years. It was founded in 1858 on the hills overlooking Rio de Janeiro's harbor and the Guanabara Bay, by the adjacent Benedictine monastery (Portuguese: Mosteiro de São Bento). Although the school is still run by the monastery, students who attend it may come from any denomination or religion. All students follow a broad course of study, which includes Theology, Music, Algebra, Geometry, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Classic Culture, Brazilian and Portuguese Literature, Geography, History, Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English Languages, Philosophy, Sociology, as well the History of Music, Architecture and Fine Arts, among other subjects. The school has been consistently rated the best Brazilian high school by ENEM (National High School Assessment Test), showing the highest ranking of college admissions in the country. Its graduates, who refer to themselves as Benedictines include Brazilian leaders from government and business, renowned doctors, educators, poets, musicians and writers.

The Candelária massacre (Portuguese: chacina da Candelária [ʃɐˈsĩnɐ ðɐ kɐ̃deˈlaɾjɐ]) was a mass killing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 23, 1993. During the night, eight homeless people, including six minors, were killed by a group of men beside the Candelária Church. Several of the men were members of the police and were tried for the killings, but only two were convicted.
