Diddington

Little Paxton Pits is a 127.4-hectare (315-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Little Paxton in Cambridgeshire. Part of it is also a 60 hectare Local Nature Reserve (LNR).These flooded former gravel pits are of national importance for wintering wildfowl, especially gadwalls. There are several nationally rare flies, such as Spilogona scutulata, Limnophora scrupulosa, Dolichopus andulusiacus and Lispocephala falculata. Flora include common spotted-orchids and hare’s-foot clover.There is access to the LNR from the High Street.

St Neots was a rural district in Huntingdonshire, England from 1894 to 1974, around the northern and eastern sides of the urban area of St Neots. The district had its origins in the St Neots Rural Sanitary District. This had been created under the Public Health Acts of 1872 and 1875, giving public health and local government responsibilities for rural areas to the existing Boards of Guardians of Poor Law Unions.Under the Local Government Act 1894, Rural Sanitary Districts became Rural Districts from 28 December 1894, and rural sanitary districts which straddled county boundaries were to be split so that separate rural districts were created for the parts in each county. Generally, the Huntingdonshire part of the St Neots Rural Sanitary District became the St Neots Rural District, whilst the Bedfordshire part became the Eaton Socon Rural District. As an exception to this rule, the Bedfordshire and Huntingdonshire County Councils agreed that the parish of Swineshead, despite being in Huntingdonshire, would be included in the Eaton Socon Rural District as it was surrounded by Bedfordshire parishes. Similarly, the parish of Tilbrook in Bedfordshire was included in the St Neots Rural District as it formed a long salient sticking out from Bedfordshire into territory almost surrounded by Huntingdonshire. The county boundary was changed two years later to match the boundary which had been agreed for the Rural Districts, with Swineshead becoming part of Bedfordshire and Tilbrook part of Huntingdonshire on 30 September 1896.St Neots Rural District was expanded in 1935 by taking in Covington parish from the disbanded Thrapston Rural District. In 1965 Huntingdonshire and the Soke of Peterborough merged to form Huntingdon and Peterborough. In 1974 the district was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972 and became part of the non-metropolitan district of Huntingdon, subsequently renamed Huntingdonshire. A small area was transferred to Bedfordshire.

Paxton Pits is an area of active and disused gravel pits at Little Paxton near St Neots in Cambridgeshire, England. The disused pits have been turned into a nature reserve with 77 hectares of lakes, meadow, grassland, scrub and woodland. The reserve is famous for its nightingales and cormorants and is home to a wide variety of other birds, insects, mammals and flora. There are two marked self guided walking routes around the reserve, together with the Rivet Trail that follows the route of the Ouse Valley Way. The circular 2 mile Heron Trail (the first mile of which is a hard surfaced track suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and all season walking) goes past lakes, through woodland and along the river bank, and which has three bird hides to view the water birds. The circular 1.5 mile Meadow Trail goes through meadows and around lakes and is especially good for wildflowers in spring and summer and dragonflies on sunny days, although some of the paths become quite muddy in winter and during wet weather. The reserve has free parking at the visitor and education centre, with a cafe and toilets.

Little Paxton in Cambridgeshire, England is a village and civil parish that lies 5 miles (8.0 km) south of Huntingdon and 1.7 miles (2.7 km) north of St Neots. It is in the district and historic county of Huntingdonshire. Until the 1970s it was a minor village and the church was under threat of closure. The building of a housing estate and a junior school revived its fortunes and the establishment of the Paxton Pits Nature Reserve around part of the nearby gravel pits has brought visitors to the village. The nature reserve features lakes, woodland and part of the Ouse floodplain and is home to large numbers of cormorants and many summer visitors such as nightingales and a large number of passerine birds. Grebes, ducks and geese have colonised the lakes. The population of the village of Little Paxton is now much larger than that of Great Paxton.

Southoe is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Southoe and Midloe, in Cambridgeshire, England. Southoe lies approximately 6 miles (10 km) south-west of Huntingdon on the A1. Southoe is situated within Huntingdonshire which is a non-metropolitan district of Cambridgeshire as well as being a historic county of England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 211.The church is central in the village and the south doorway contains parts that are of Norman origin.

Buckden is a village and civil parish 3.7 miles (6.0 km) north of St Neots and 4 miles (6.4 km) south-west of Huntingdon, England. It includes the hamlets of Stirtloe and Hardwick. It lies in Huntingdonshire, a non-metropolitan district of Cambridgeshire and a historic county, close to three transport routes of past and present: the River Great Ouse, along its eastern boundary, the Great North Road that once crossed the village, but now bypasses it to the west, and the East Coast Mainline along the eastern side of the Great Ouse valley in the neighbouring parish of The Offords.

Buckden Towers, formerly known as Buckden Palace, is a medieval fortified house and bishop's palace in Buckden, Cambridgeshire, England. It is now a conference and retreat centre operated by the Claretian missionaries.

Southoe and Midloe is a small civil parish in Cambridgeshire, England. The parish lies approximately 6 miles (10 km) south-west of Huntingdon. The parish comprises the small village of Southoe and the even smaller settlement of Midloe. The two settlements are situated within Huntingdonshire which is a non-metropolitan district of Cambridgeshire as well as being a historic county of England.

St Peter's Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Offord D'Arcy, Cambridgeshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The church stands adjacent to the East Coast Main Railway Line, overlooking the River Great Ouse.

The River Kym is a river in Cambridgeshire, England. It flows through the village of Tilbrook, to Kimbolton, and joins the Great Ouse at St Neots. It is known as the River Til in its upper reaches, tributaries include the Pertenhall Brook.

St Neots Town Football Club is an English semi-professional football club based in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. The club are currently members of the United Counties League Premier Division South. Founded in 1879 and known as "The Saints", St Neots Town play their home matches at Premier Plus Ltd stadium. The club have played in a number of local leagues, starting off in the Biggleswade & District League before moving first to the South Midlands League in 1927, then the United Counties League in 1936 and finally the Southern Football League in 2011. The club has enjoyed success since promotion in 2011, clinching the Division One Central League title at the first attempt, before adding the Southern Football League Cup to their honours list in 2014.

The St. Neots Derailment 1895 occurred near to St. Neots railway station on 10 November 1895 when a Great Northern Railway Scottish express from Kings Cross encountered a broken rail.
