Emery Worldwide Airlines Flight 17 was a regularly scheduled domestic cargo flight, flying from Reno to Dayton with an intermediate stopover at Rancho Cordova. On February 16, 2000, the DC-8 operating the flight crashed onto an automobile salvage yard shortly after taking off from Sacramento Mather Airport, resulting in the deaths of all three crew members on board. The crew reported control problems during takeoff and attempted unsuccessfully to return to Mather airport.

Sacramento Children's Museum (SCM) is a children's museum in Rancho Cordova near Sacramento, California. The Museum is designed for children ages birth to eight. The Museum includes hands-on activities for children using pressurized tubes, artificial currents, balls in chutes to explore gravity, as well as painting and craft art activities. The museum also offers a pint-sized city for children to role play, including a miniature grocery store. The Museum is located off U.S. Route 50 in California. and was organized as a non-profit corporation in 2005 under the guidance of Kathleen Palley (a local mother) and Alan Godlove. The facility opened August 25, 2011 under the guidance of Executive Director Sharon Stone Smith. The museum includes 7,000 square feet of space.

The California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA or EMS Authority) is an agency of California State government. The California EMS Authority is one of the thirteen departments within the California Health and Human Services Agency. The director is required to be a physician with substantial experience in emergency medicine. Elizabeth Basnett is the current Acting Director.The mission of the California EMS Authority is to ensure quality patient care by administering an effective, statewide system of coordinated emergency medical care, injury prevention, and disaster medical response. In California, the EMS Authority is responsible for paramedic licensure, emergency medical technician regulations, trauma center and trauma system standards, ambulance service coordination, and disaster medical response. The EMS Authority operates the EMS Central Registry, a public access database that provides information about licensing and certification status of EMTs and paramedics. The EMS Authority manages the state's medical response to major disasters. This includes maintenance, staffing and deployment of three 200-bed mobile field hospitals, 39 Disaster Medical Support Units that supply ambulance strike teams, and three 40-person medical assistance teams that are prepared to respond to a disaster. Disaster Healthcare Volunteers is California's initiative to pre-register, verify licensure and credentials, and mobilize professional healthcare volunteers. The program has roughly 14,000 registrants representing 47 professional license types including doctors, dentists, nurses, paramedics, pharmacists, technicians, etc.

Mather ( MAY-ther) is a census-designated place in Sacramento County, California. Mather sits at an elevation of 108 feet (33 m). The 2010 United States census reported Mather's population was 4,451. It is the site of the former Mather Air Force Base, closed by the federal government in 1993.

Mather Air Force Base (Mather AFB) was a United States Air Force Base, which was closed in 1993 pursuant to a post-Cold War BRAC decision. It was located 12 miles (19 km) east of Sacramento, on the south side of U.S. Route 50 in Sacramento County, California. Mather Field was one of 32 Air Service training camps established after the United States entry into World War I in April 1917.The Mather AFB land has various post-military uses including Sacramento Mather Airport, established in 1995. Some of the land was included in the City of Rancho Cordova, when it was incorporated in 2003.

The American River Grange Hall in Rancho Cordova, California, is an 1882 wooden Grange Hall building. The American River Grange was incorporated in January 1873 and met in Fifteen Mile House until having this building built. As of 1996, the American River Grange Hall has been in continuous use ever since and is the oldest of eight Granges active in Sacramento County, California.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Cordova Town Center station is a side platformed Sacramento RT Light Rail station in Rancho Cordova, California, United States. The station was opened on June 11, 2004, and is operated by the Sacramento Regional Transit District. It is served by the Gold Line. It is located near the intersection of Olson Drive/Cordova Lane and Folsom Boulevard and serves the nearby Rancho Cordova Town Center and a variety of shopping destinations. Cordova Town Center, along with Zinfandel and Sunrise, opened on June 11, 2004, as part of an $89 million, 2.8-mile (4.5 km) extension of the Gold Line east of the Mather Field/Mills station. Rancho Cordova city officials have stated the establishment of the stations will help in the development of transit-oriented development/redevelopment of the Folsom corridor through the city.

Sunrise station is a side-platformed Sacramento RT Light Rail station in Rancho Cordova, California, United States. The station was opened on June 11, 2004, and is operated by the Sacramento Regional Transit District. It is served by the Gold Line. The station is located on Folsom Boulevard just south of Highway 50 at the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard. Sunrise, along with Zinfandel and Cordova Town Center, opened on June 11, 2004, as part of an $89 million, 2.8-mile (4.5 km) extension of what was then the original Watt/I-80–Downtown–Mathers Field/Mills line east of the Mather Field/Mills station. Sunrise served as the eastern terminus for what was then the newly created Downtown–Sunrise line (now Gold Line) until the extension to Historic Folsom opened on October 15, 2005. Rancho Cordova city officials have stated the establishment of the stations will help in the development of transit-oriented development/redevelopment of the Folsom corridor through the city.Sunrise serves as a major station on the eastern section of the Gold Line. Light rail operates from this stop to downtown at 15-minute intervals during peak time periods, while trains leave Folsom at 30-minute headways during this portion of the day. In March 2010 a market was moved from its location in the parking lot of Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights to the park and ride of the station every Saturday.

Zinfandel station is a side platformed Sacramento RT Light Rail station in Rancho Cordova, California, United States. The station was opened on June 11, 2004, and is operated by the Sacramento Regional Transit District. It is served by the Gold Line. Across the street from the stop is the Rancho Cordova Town Center mall. The station was originally intended for construction along Folsom, east of Zinfandel Drive. However, RT officials moved the station west of Zinfandel after requests by the Rancho Cordova Area Chamber of Commerce due to the better location adjacent to retail centers. Zinfandel, along with Cordova Town Center and Sunrise, opened on June 11, 2004, as part of an $89 million, 2.8-mile (4.5 km) extension of the Gold Line east of the Mather Field/Mills station. Rancho Cordova city officials have stated the establishment of the stations will help in the development of transit-oriented development/redevelopment of the Folsom corridor through the city.

Sacramento Raceway Park (SRP), commonly shortened to Sacramento Raceway or Sac Raceway, was a motorsports track on 198 acres (80 ha) near Rancho Cordova, California and the former Mather Air Force Base, known for holding weekly drag race events and annual Governors Cup Championship. It was completed in 1964 and the last races were held in November 2023.
