Breitenberg (Tannheim Mountains)

The Aggenstein is a mountain, 1,986 metres high (according to German survey: 1,985.4 m) in the Allgäu Alps on the border Bavaria, Germany and Tyrol, Austria. It is located in the Bavarian part of the Tannheim Mountains, a few kilometres south of Pfronten (Ostallgäu).

The Tannheim Mountains (German: Tannheimer Berge) are a sub-group of the Allgäu Alps in the Bavarian-Tyrolean border region. Their name is derived from the village of Tannheim in the Tannheim Valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The highest peaks in the Tannheim Mountains are the Kellenspitze (2,238 m) and Gimpel (2,176 m); both can easily be ascended from Nesselwängle in the Tannheim valley. Other summits include the Gehrenspitze (2,163 m), Rote Flüh (2,111 m), the Schartschrofen (1,968 m), the Schneidspitze (2,009 m) and the Kelleschrofen (2,091 m), from which rises the Babylonian Tower (Babylonischer Turm). To the north of Tannheim rises the Einstein, a striking, isolated summit. Bases for tours in the Tannheim Mountains are the Gimpelhaus (private), the Tannheim Hut (DAV), the Otto Mayr Hut (DAV) and the Füssen Hut (private). The base for the local mountain rescue services is the operations room in the multi-purpose centre in Nesselwängle and the Gimpelalm.

The Schartschrofen is a rocky summit, 1,968 m high, in the Tannheim Mountains, a sub-group of the Allgäu Alps. It lies northwest of the Rote Flüh and south of the col of Füssener Jöchl.

Eisenberg is a municipality in the district of Ostallgäu in Bavaria in Germany.

Hohenfreyberg Castle (German: Burg Hohenfreyberg), together with Eisenberg Castle directly opposite, forms a castle group in the southern Allgäu that is visible from a long way off. It is located about four kilometres north of Pfronten in the county of Ostallgäu. The late mediaeval hilltop castle was abandoned during the Thirty Years’ War and set on fire. From 1995 to 2006 the former aristocratic seat was comprehensively made safe and conserved as part of a closely observed "example of renovation".

Eisenberg Castle is a medieval hilltop castle ruin north of Pfronten, Bavaria, Germany built in the 14th century.

For the "Rote Flüh" feature on the North Face of the Eiger, see Eiger. The Rote Flüh is a peak in the Tannheim Mountains, a sub-range of the Allgäu Alps. It is 2,108 metres high. The Rote Flüh is built from Wetterstein limestone. It gets its name (which means "red rock face") from the layers of embedded particles of red limestone rock that appear reddish as the sun goes down.

Vilsegg Castle (German: Burg Vilsegg) is a former fortification in the Austrian state of Tyrol that stands about a kilometre northwest of the little town of Vils, between Pfronten and Füssen, a few hundred metres away from the Austro-German border.

Vils is a town in the district of Reutte in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It has a long, rich history of ten or more generations of excellent luthiers. Most prominent among those of the Rief (or Ruef) family is Dominicus Rief. Examples of his work are in the museum there.

Nesselwang is a municipality in the district of Ostallgäu in Bavaria in Germany. It is a frequently photographed market town and tourist resort at the foot of the Alps in Allgäu. It consists of the market (Nesselwang) as well as 17 surrounding hamlets (Gschwend, Hörich, Reichenbach, Bayerstetten, Wank, Hertingen, Attlesee, Schneidbach, Hammerschmiede, Lachen, Niederhöfen, Rindegg, Thal, Schicken, Schneidbach, Voglen and Widdumhof).
