Guide Bridge is an area west of Ashton-under-Lyne, in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. Historically part of Lancashire, Guide Bridge was built as a village around an eponymous bridge over the Ashton Canal.

Audenshaw railway station served the Audenshaw area of Greater Manchester, then part of the county of Lancashire in England. The station was originally called Hooley Hill (Guide Bridge) as the original Audenshaw station opened by the London and North Western Railway closed in 1905.

Hooley Hill Railway Station served the Hooley Hill area of Audenshaw and was located on the Denton to Stalybridge Stalybridge Junction Railway. This was built & opened by the London and North Western Railway in 1893 to avoid the busy junctions at Guide Bridge and provide the company with its own route between Stalybridge & Stockport. The Bradshaws timetable for 1922 listed 11 southbound & 12 northbound trains calling on Mondays to Saturdays, but none on Sundays. The station was closed to passenger traffic by British Railways on 25 September 1950, shortly after nationalisation.

The Audenshaw Junction rail accident occurred on the evening of 20 May 1970 near Guide Bridge railway station, Greater Manchester, England. A Class 506 electric multiple unit train from Manchester Piccadilly to Hadfield had started away from a signal when a set of points moved underneath the train, causing it to be derailed and throwing the centre carriage onto its side. Two passengers were killed and 13 were injured.

Ryecroft is an area of Ashton-under-Lyne, a town in Greater Manchester, England. It occupies a western area of Ashton. Originally a farm held by Robert de Wright in 1422 the principal tenant at the will of Sir John de Assheton. It was not until Joseph Stanfield Grimshaw rented the area to Abel Buckley at a half yearly rent of £125 that development took place when Abel and his brother John Smith Buckley built the first of the Ryecroft Mills in the 1830s. Hugh Mason, social reformer and Liberal politician owned cotton mills in Rycroft in the 19th century, before becoming mayor and Member of Parliament for Ashton-under-Lyne.

Nico Ditch, an early-medieval linear earthwork possibly built as a defensive barrier against Vikings, runs through the area. Medieval Audenshaw was a division of the township of Ashton in the county of Lancashire. Audenshaw expanded as a centre for textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution and the Victorian era with inhabitants employed in hat-making, cotton-spinning, calico-printing, and silk-weaving. In 1974, Audenshaw Urban District became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside.

Ashton Moss Railway Station was a short lived station on the Oldham, Ashton and Guide Bridge Railway (OA&GB) that served the town of Ashton-under-Lyne. The station opened on 26 August 1861 when the Oldham, Ashton-under-Lyne and Guide Bridge Junction Railway opened its line from Guide Bridge to Oldham Clegg Street. The station was located on Moss Lane, at the west end of the town. It had two services in each direction, one early morning, the other late evening. Only the early morning services were provided on Sundays.The station closed in 1862.Whilst most of the former OA&GB line is closed the line through the station site is still in use for freight and occasional diversions from Denton, onto the former OA&GB line through where Ashton Moss had been then taking the south to west curve onto the former GCR line towards Manchester.The name Ashton Moss is now used by a stop in a different location on the East Manchester Line of the Manchester Metrolink to Ashton-under-Lyne.

The Ashton-under-Lyne munitions explosion occurred on 13 June 1917 when the Hooley Hill Rubber and Chemical Works caught fire and exploded. The factory was engaged in the production of TNT for the war effort and was completely destroyed. Forty-three people were killed and most of the surrounding area was left devastated.
