Dormers Wells

Dormers Wells High School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form in Dormers Wells, in the Ealing area of London, England. In 2011 the school building and grounds were rebuilt in a £30 million project designed by Nicholas Hare Architects, with Balfour Beatty Construction.

The Dormers Wells High School shooting was a mass shooting that occurred during a Sikh prayer meeting on the night of 11 November 1987 at the aforementioned school in Southall, London, England. Rajinder Singh Batth and Mangit Singh Sunder, two orthodox Sikhs, opened fire on preacher Mahraz Darshan Das and then the congregation, killing three men and wounding one other. They were then subdued and treated for minor injuries at the hospital. In March 1989, both were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and manslaughter. Both have since been released.

The London Vickers Viking accident occurred on 2 September 1958 when an Independent Air Travel Vickers VC.1 Viking (registration G-AIJE) with three crew members aboard and loaded with two Bristol Proteus turboprop engines as cargo attempted a flight from London Heathrow Airport to Tel Aviv via Nice, Brindisi and Athens.

Villiers High School is a co-educational 11–18 school and sixth form in the Southall area of the west London borough of Ealing. The school is situated in Boyd Avenue, in the heart of Southall. Aruna Sharma was appointed Headteacher in September 2017. as of 2022 it has around 1,500 pupils on roll, 250 of whom are in the sixth form.The local authority, the London Borough of Ealing, administers the Co-ordinated High School Admissions Scheme, for Villiers High School.

Southall Railway Centre is a non-publicised railway heritage centre at Southall in west London, near to Southall railway station and the Grand Union Canal. Formerly of the Great Western Railway the site is now run partly by Locomotive Services and West Coast Railways, both of whom lease the site from Network Rail. The location is not open to the public. Until 2021, the Great Western Railway Preservation Group (GWRPG) leased part of the West Coast Railway section of the site for their own use.

Southall DMU Depot was a traction maintenance depot located in Southall, London, England. The depot is situated on the Great Western Main Line and is near Southall station. The depot code is SZ.

Southall Town Hall is a municipal building in High Street, Southall, London. It has been designated a local heritage asset.

Southall (until 1936 Southall Norwood) was a local government district in the county of Middlesex, United Kingdom from 1891 to 1965. It consisted of the civil parish of Norwood.

The Three Horseshoes was a public house at Uxbridge Road and South Road at Southall Broadway, Southall, London. It was built between 1914 and 1922 (construction was delayed by World War I) by the architect Nowell Parr.In 1989, the local council proposed to demolish The Three Horseshoes as part of a town centre redevelopment scheme. However, this was opposed by CAMRA, the Twentieth Century Society and English Heritage, who nearly spot-listed the pub to save it.CAMRA call it "perhaps one of the best examples of the earlier Nowell Parr's work".It closed on 4 December 2016 and has been converted into shops and flats.

Southall () is a large suburban town in West London, England, part of the London Borough of Ealing and is one of its seven major towns. It is situated 10.7 mi (17.2 km) west of Charing Cross and had a population of 69,857 as of 2011. It is generally divided in three parts: the mostly residential area around Lady Margaret Road (Dormers Wells); the main commercial centre at High Street and Southall Broadway (part of the greater Uxbridge Road); and Old Southall/Southall Green to the south consisting of Southall railway station, industries and Norwood Green bounded by the M4. It was historically a municipal borough of Middlesex administered from Southall Town Hall until 1965. Southall is located on the Grand Union Canal (formerly the Grand Junction Canal) which first linked London with the rest of the growing canal system. It was one of the last canals to carry significant commercial traffic (through the 1950s) and is still open to traffic and is used by pleasure craft. The canal separates it from Hayes on the west, whereas to the east the River Brent separates the town from Hanwell. From the 1950s the town's local factories and proximity to Heathrow Airport attracted large numbers of Asian immigrants; the town eventually became home to the largest Punjabi community outside the Indian subcontinent and is today a major centre of South Asian culture, having gained the nickname Little India.

Three Bridges, properly known as Windmill Bridge, is a three-level crossing of bridges near Hanwell in west London, England. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the bridges are arranged to allow the routes of the Grand Junction Canal, Great Western and Brentford Railway, and Windmill Lane to cross each other, with the road above the canal and above the railway. This allowed the railway to be in a deep cutting so it wasn't visible from Osterley Park. Work began in 1856, and was completed in 1859. The project was Brunel's last to be finished before he died on 15 September 1859. The structure is a scheduled monument.

The Southall rail crash occurred on 19 September 1997, on the Great Western Main Line at Southall, West London. An InterCity 125 high speed passenger train (HST) failed to slow down in response to warning signals and collided with a freight train crossing its path, causing seven deaths and 139 injuries. The passenger train operating company had failed to inform Railtrack and the signaller that the automatic warning system (AWS), which warns drivers of adverse signals, had been turned off in the cab of the HST. As a result, the signaller set a route which would stop the HST and allow the freight train to cross in front of it. If the signaller had known that the AWS in the express was not working, he would have been prevented by the operating rules from setting a conflicting route. The HST driver did not apply the brakes until it was too late because he was packing his bag and did not see the cautionary signals. He was charged with manslaughter by gross negligence, but the charges were later dropped. Great Western Trains, whose managing director survived the crash in one of the most badly affected carriages, was fined for failure to ensure that the HST had their automatic warning system working during long journeys.
