Thaxton is an unincorporated community in western Bedford County, Virginia, United States. The community is located along U.S. Route 460 between Bedford and Montvale. It is part of the Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Twin Oaks Farm is a historic home and farm located in Bedford County, Virginia. It was built about 1850, and is a rambling two-story frame and log farmhouse with Gothic Revival style decorative detailing. It features a frame wraparound porch on the south and west elevations. Also on the property are a contributing dingle dwelling (1930s), spring house (1850s), tenant house (1916), Apple Barn (1916), and chicken coop (1920s). The farm supported cannery production from 1909 to 1937.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Fancy Farm is a historic plantation house located at Kelso Mill, near Bedford, Bedford County, Virginia. It was built about 1785, and is a two-story, five bay brick dwelling in the Late Georgian style. It has a metal gable roof and two interior end chimneys. The interior features original woodwork. The house was restored in 1969–1971. Also on the property are a contributing brick storehouse, a frame kitchen with a stone chimney, and a frame quarters also with a stone chimney. The property features a panorama of the Peaks of Otter. Fancy Farm was used as the headquarters of Union General David Hunter in his Lynchburg campaign during the Valley Campaigns of 1864.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

The Peaks of Otter are three mountain peaks in the Blue Ridge Mountains, overlooking the town of Bedford, Virginia, which lies nine miles (14 km) to the southeast along State Route 43. These peaks are Sharp Top, Flat Top, and Harkening Hill. The manmade Abbott Lake lies in the valley between the three peaks, behind the Peaks of Otter Lodge and restaurant. The National Park Service preserves the peaks and lake as part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Thomas Jefferson once wrote that "the mountains of the Blue Ridge, and of these the Peaks of Otter, are thought to be of a greater height, measured from their base, than any others in our country, and perhaps in North America." Of course this later turned out not to be the case, but not before Virginia had sent stones from the peaks to be its part of the Washington Monument.

Three Otters is a historic home near Bedford, Bedford County, Virginia. Built about 1827 by local artisans following the pattern book of Asher Benjamin for a local merchant, the large, two-story, brick dwelling exemplifies the Greek Revival style. It is approximately 50 feet square, with a low pitched hipped roof. The original two-story kitchen and pantry outbuilding is connected to the main house by a covered walkway and a two-story brick-and-frame addition. There are a contributing brick well house, chicken house, and necessary.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

New Prospect Church, also known as New Prospect Baptist Church, is a historic Baptist church located at 4445 Sheep Creek Road near Bedford, Bedford County, Virginia, United States. It was built in 1880, and is a one-story, wood-frame building painted white and in a vernacular Greek Revival style. It measures 34 feet wide and 45 feet long, and has a low-pitched gable roof. The church has two entrances, one for the men and one for the women and children.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Montvale is a census-designated place (CDP) in western Bedford County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2020 census was 635. The community is located between Roanoke and Bedford. It is part of the Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The National D-Day Memorial is a war memorial located in Bedford, Virginia. It serves as the national memorial for American D-Day veterans. However, its scope is international in that it states, "In Tribute to the valor, fidelity and sacrifice of Allied Forces on D-Day, June 6, 1944" and commends all Allied Armed Forces during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944, during World War II.The memorial, bordering the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwestern Virginia, is an area of over 50 acres (200,000 m2) that overlooks the town of Bedford. It officially opened on June 6, 2001, with 15,000 people present, including then-President George W. Bush. About 60,000 people have visited the memorial each year. Of those, more than half are from outside of Virginia.

Bedford station was an intercity rail station located in Bedford, Virginia. It was served by Norfolk and Western Railway passenger trains until 1971. It was later served by Amtrak's Mountaineer from 1975 to 1977, then the Hilltopper until 1979. The station building remains extant and is used as a restaurant.

Locust Level is a historic home and farm located at Montvale, Bedford County, Virginia. It was built about 1824, and is a two-story, brick, central-passage-plan I-house with fine exterior and interior Federal-style detailing. It has a standing seam metal roof. Attached to the rear is a two-story mortise-and-tenon frame wing known variously as the Hall or the Dance Hall. Also on the property are a contributing kitchen and dining room building, a free-standing chimney, a meat house, spring house, family cemetery, and three mounting blocks. The home was built about 1822-1824 by Paschal and Frances Ann Otey Buford, on land that belonged to his father, Henry Buford. Frances Ann Matthews Otey Buford was part of the famous Mathews family. The land was originally granted by George III of the United Kingdom for "service to the crown." The home has ruins of the original home of Henry Buford on the site, as well as the remains of several of the mills operated by Paschal Buford. The famous treasure described in the Beale ciphers is thought to be buried near this home. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
