The electoral ward of Fairwood, City and County of Swansea, Wales, UK consists of some or all of the following areas: Dunvant, Upper Killay, Poundffald and Three Crosses in the parliamentary constituency of Gower. The ward is bounded by the wards of Gower and Pennard to the south west; Penclawdd to the north west; Gowerton to the north east; Dunvant and Killay to the east; Mayals to the south west and Bishopston to the south. The village of Upper Killay is located in the Fairwood ward about 3.5 miles west of Swansea City Centre.

Fairwood Common is a large area of barely populated common land in the heart of the Gower Peninsula, south Wales. It forms part of the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Swansea Airport is located in the middle of the common. This was developed from the World War II airfield named RAF Fairwood Common.

Royal Air Force Fairwood Common, or more simply RAF Fairwood Common, (IATA: EGFH, ICAO: SWS) is a former Royal Air Force Sector Station located on Fairwood Common, on the Gower Peninsula, to the west of Swansea. It is now the location of Swansea Airport.

The electoral ward consisted of some or all of the following areas, Derlwyn, Dunvant, Killay, in the parliamentary constituency of Swansea West. It is bounded by Fairwood to the west; Gowerton to the north; Sketty to the east.

Gowerton (Welsh: Tregŵyr) is a large village and community, about 4 miles (6 km) north west of Swansea city centre, Wales. Gowerton is often known as the gateway to the Gower Peninsula. Gowerton's original name was Ffosfelin. The village falls within the Gowerton electoral ward of the City and County of Swansea Council, which elects one councillor. The community had a population of 5,212. and the built-up area with Waunarlwydd 8,183.In 1980, the Welsh National Eisteddfod (named after Dyffryn Lliw, see below) was held at the Elba sports complex in the village. The Eisteddfod stone (Gorsedd stones) is located on the roundabout (grid ref. 585966) on the B4295 road to Penclawdd.

Gowerton (Welsh: Tregŵyr) is the name of an electoral ward in the county of Swansea, Wales, UK. It is named after Gowerton village which falls within the ward. The Gowerton community boundaries are coterminous with the ward. The electoral ward consists of some or all of the following areas: Gowerton, Penclawdd, Waunarlwydd, in the parliamentary constituency of Gower. It is bordered by Penclawdd and Fairwood to the south west; Killay North and Killay South to the south; Cockett to the east; and Lower Loughor, Upper Loughor, the Loughor estuary and Kingsbridge to the north. Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr is a Welsh-medium secondary school for pupils aged between 11 and 19 years. The school is situated in Gowerton, Swansea, Wales. It was established in 1984.As of 2023, Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr had 1113 pupils enrolled at the school, with 27.5 per cent of those coming from Welsh-speaking homes.Notable past students include footballer John Hartson, soprano Elin Manahan Thomas and UFC fighter Brett Johns.In 2001 the school, as the only Welsh-speaking secondary school in Swansea, was encountering capacity problems, having to accommodate over 1,000 pupils in buildings that were designed for a capacity of 750. Proposals were made to move the school to the site of Penlan Comprehensive School, which was shortly to close. However parents and Staff protested against the move, resulting in a second Welsh-language school in Swansea (Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe) According to the latest inspection report from Estyn the school has a GCSE pass rate of 76% (based on 5 GCSEs, grades A-C), which puts it in 5th place in Wales or in the top 10%. In Swansea it is ranked 1st place for best school. In 2015, the Rugby 1st XV won the Ospreys under 18s School League, beating Gowerton Comprehensive School 23–21.
