RAF Fairwood Common

Swansea Airport (Welsh: Maes Awyr Abertawe) (IATA: SWS, ICAO: EGFH) is located in the middle of Fairwood Common on the Gower Peninsula 6 miles (9.7 km) to the west of Swansea, Wales.

Fairwood Common is a large area of barely populated common land in the heart of the Gower Peninsula, south Wales. It forms part of the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Swansea Airport is located in the middle of the common. This was developed from the World War II airfield named RAF Fairwood Common.

The Gower Peninsula (Welsh: Gŵyr) in the City and County of Swansea, Wales, contains over twenty villages and communities. Most of the peninsula is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Fairwood Hospital (Welsh: Ysbyty Fairwood) was a health facility in Upper Killay, Swansea, Wales. It was managed by the Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The electoral ward of Fairwood, City and County of Swansea, Wales, UK consists of some or all of the following areas: Dunvant, Upper Killay, Poundffald and Three Crosses in the parliamentary constituency of Gower. The ward is bounded by the wards of Gower and Pennard to the south west; Penclawdd to the north west; Gowerton to the north east; Dunvant and Killay to the east; Mayals to the south west and Bishopston to the south. The village of Upper Killay is located in the Fairwood ward about 3.5 miles west of Swansea City Centre.

Capel y Crwys is an Independent chapel located on the Gower Peninsula in the village of Three Crosses, Swansea. It is the largest chapel on the Gower earning itself the colloquial name of Gower's "Cathedral". With a history of over two centuries it continues today with a popular membership and involvement in the local community. The chapel is a member of the Union of Welsh Independents

Kittle is a village in the City and County of Swansea, Wales. The village is located on the B4436 road between Pennard and Bishopston, It is part of the Pennard community, which is in the south east of the Gower peninsula.There is a village green facing a row of shops in the centre of the village. Kittle also has a pub, The Beaufort Arms.

Kilvrough Manor is a large country house near Swansea. It is a Grade II* listed building. Its park is listed on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.

Pennard (previously Llanarthbodu) is a village and community on the south of the Gower Peninsula, about 7 miles south-west of Swansea city centre. It falls within the Pennard electoral ward of Swansea. The Pennard community includes the larger settlements of Southgate and Kittle. the population as of 2011 was 2,688.

Bishopston Comprehensive School (Welsh: Ysgol Gyfun Llandeilo Ferwallt) is a comprehensive school in Bishopston, Swansea, Wales. It provides education to GCSE level, and has an enrollment as of September 2023 of 1,109 pupils and a total of 1,112 pupils. It was founded in 1976, in The Glebe, Bishopston, in the Gower Peninsula. The school is adjacent to the Bishopston Sports Centre (Welsh: Canolfan Chwaraeon Llandeilo Ferwallt) and Bishopston Primary School (Welsh: Ysgol Gynradd Llandeilo Ferwallt).

Gower (Welsh: Gŵyr) or the Gower Peninsula (Penrhyn Gŵyr) is in South West Wales and is the most westerly part of the historic county of Glamorgan, Wales. It projects towards the Bristol Channel. In 1956, the majority of Gower became the first area in the United Kingdom to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Until 1974, Gower was administered as a rural district. It was then merged with the county borough of Swansea. From 1974 to 1996, it formed the Swansea district. Since 1996, Gower has been administered as part of the unitary authority of the City and County of Swansea. Since its establishment in 1999, the Gower Senedd constituency has only elected Labour members. The Gower constituency in Westminster had previously also elected only Labour Members of Parliament (MPs) since 1908; the longest run (with Normanton and Makerfield) of any UK constituency. This ended in 2015 when the Conservatives took the seat. In 2017, it returned to Labour. The area of both constituencies covers the peninsula and the outer Gower areas of Clydach, Gowerton, Gorseinon, Felindre, Garnswllt and encompasses the area of the historic Lordship of Gower apart from the city of Swansea.
