Thunder City was an aircraft operating and maintenance company based at the Cape Town International Airport in Cape Town, South Africa. It was well known for owning the largest civilian collection of former military jet aircraft in the world. These aircraft were used to perform in airshows and could also be chartered by the general public for recreational flights, including going supersonic and climbing to altitudes around 50,000 feet. Following a fatal accident in 2009 in which an English Electric Lightning crashed at an airshow, the company ceased flying operations after the accident investigation found major shortcomings in its maintenance programme.The company's other activities included upgrading older models of the Aerospatiale Puma helicopter with modern avionics and renovating airframes and engines.

Crossroads is a high-density township in the Western Cape, South Africa. It is situated near Cape Town International Airport and borders Nyanga, Philippi, Heideveld, Gugulethu and Mitchells Plain. Crossroads is one of greater Cape Town's largest townships.

Nyanga is a township in the Western Cape, South Africa. Its name in Xhosa means "moon" and it is one of the oldest black townships in Cape Town. It was established as a result of the migrant labour system. In 1948 black migrants were forced to settle in Nyanga as Langa had become too small. Nyanga was one of the poorest places in Cape Town and is still is one of the most dangerous parts of Cape Town. In 2001 its unemployment rate was estimated at being approximately 56% and HIV/AIDS is a huge community issue. Nyanga is situated 20 km (12 mi) from Cape Town along the N2 highway, close to the Cape Town International Airport and next to the townships of Gugulethu and Crossroads.

The murder of Charl Kinnear occurred at around 15:03 SAST on 18 September 2020 as he was leaving his home in Bishop Lavis, Cape Town, South Africa. He was shot multiple times in the upper body whilst seated in the driver's seat of his white Toyota Corolla resulting in his death. Kinnear was a lieutenant colonel in the South African Police Service (SAPS) and was the section commander for the Western Cape anti-gang unit. Former pro rugby player Zane Killian was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with Kinnear's murder. Kinnear's mobile phone had been illegally tracked 2,116 times by Killian before his murder using a specialised mobile phone tracking device and software.At the time of his death Kinnear was investigating a gun racketeering case involving the alleged organised crime boss Nafiz Modack and 8 high-ranking police officers. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) reported that Kinnear's death could result in the collapse of a number of high-profile organised crime cases that he was investigating. The same report stated that there was a “rogue unit” in the Western Cape Crime Intelligence Division of SAPS and commended Kinnear's investigation of corruption within the organisation.Modack and two additional suspects (Amaal Jantjies and Janick Adonis) were arrested and charged for Kinnear's murder in 2021. Recordings made by Jantjies indicated that a prior unsuccessful attempt on Kinnear's life had been made when a hand grenade failed to detonate in front of Kinnear's home on 23 November 2019. Following the first attempt a police detail was instructed to guard Kinnear's home but was removed on 19 December 2019.As of January 2022 the IPID had lodged two criminal charges against National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole for refusing to cooperate with its investigation into Kinnear's murder.In April 2022 one suspect, Fareez Smith (a self confessed member of the Junky Funky Kids street gang), pleaded guilty of attempting to assassinate Kinnear at his home in November 2019. Smith's attempted assassination of Kinnear failed when the grenade he was given to implement the assassination with fell out of his pocket in view of police officers stationed outside Kinnear's home. Smith was convicted of attempted murder, illegal possession of explosives, and contravening the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.

Symphony Way Informal Settlement was a small community of pavement dwellers (shack dwellers who live on the pavement) that lived on Symphony Way, a main road in Delft, South Africa, from February 2008 until late 2009. They were a group of families that were evicted in February 2008 from the N2 Gateway Houses.

Belhar Secondary School (Afrikaans: Belhar Sekondêre Skool) is an Afrikaans/English mixed medium school in Belhar, Western Cape, South Africa. As of 2006 it had some 1,274 students [1] and was staffed by 35 educators. [2]. In 2006 the Western Cape Education Department designated it one of 10 "Arts and Culture focus schools" to be set up over the following three years. [3]

Mzoli's was a butchery in Gugulethu, a township on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa. Since Mzoli's opened in early 2003, the restaurant had become a popular gathering spot for Cape Town residents and a tourist attraction. Amongst Gugulethu's residents, Mzoli's Place has a reputation for public drunkenness and disrespect for the local community. Mzoli's is named after the founder and owner, Mzoli Ngcawuzele. The restaurant closed indefinitely in May 2021 partly due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bishop Lavis is a suburb of Cape Town, located 15 kilometres (9 mi) east of the city centre near Cape Town International Airport. It had, as of 2001, a population of 44,419 people, of whom 97% described themselves as Coloured, and 90% spoke Afrikaans while 9% spoke English. The official 2011 census gave the population figure as 26,482.Bishop Lavis is one of many townships that was established in the Western Cape Province by the country's reigning regime at the introduction of apartheid in South Africa. During this period non-white citizens were moved from their lands and homes across the region (because it was abruptly designated for "whites only"), into these townships.

The Gugulethu massacre was a mass shooting which occurred on the afternoon of 2 November 2020. It took place in a house in NY78, Gugulethu, Cape Town, South Africa and resulted in the death of eight people between the ages of 30 and 50 years old. One additional victim was injured in the shooting. Seven of the nine victims died on scene (3 women and 4 men) whilst an eighth victim died later in hospital.Local residents reported to the media that the shooting was related to a gang conflict between the Guptas and the Boko Haram street gangs. Other reports by local residents indicated that the killing was conducted by the Boko Haram gang targeting a local woman, killed on scene, who refused to pay extortion money to the gang. Whilst the Gugulethu Development Forum stated that the killings were "drug-related."

Gugulethu is a township in the Western Cape, South Africa and is 15 km from Cape Town. Its name is a contraction of igugu lethu, which is Xhosa for our pride. The township was established along with Nyanga in the 1960s.

Symphony Way Temporary Relocation Area in Delft, Cape Town, better known by its nickname Blikkiesdorp, is a relocation camp made-up of corrugated iron shacks. Blikkiesdorp, which is Afrikaans for "Tin Can Town", was given its name by residents because of the row-upon-row of tin-like one room structures throughout the settlement.

Heideveld Secondary School is a school in Cape Town, Western Cape, in a suburb called Heideveld in South Africa. The school is considered to be a widely known school due to location next to a city main road and train tracks and also one of the first e-Learning school's in the Western Cape. The education system mostly focuses on academics providing both practical and theoretical studies. The secondary school also has clubs one can join from sports, art, musical, tech and other departments from hiking and debating.
