Bishop Lavis is a suburb of Cape Town, located 15 kilometres (9 mi) east of the city centre near Cape Town International Airport. It had, as of 2001, a population of 44,419 people, of whom 97% described themselves as Coloured, and 90% spoke Afrikaans while 9% spoke English. The official 2011 census gave the population figure as 26,482.Bishop Lavis is one of many townships that was established in the Western Cape Province by the country's reigning regime at the introduction of apartheid in South Africa. During this period non-white citizens were moved from their lands and homes across the region (because it was abruptly designated for "whites only"), into these townships.

Heideveld Secondary School is a school in Cape Town, Western Cape, in a suburb called Heideveld in South Africa. The school is considered to be a widely known school due to location next to a city main road and train tracks and also one of the first e-Learning school's in the Western Cape. The murder of Charl Kinnear occurred at around 15:03 SAST on 18 September 2020 as he was leaving his home in Bishop Lavis, Cape Town, South Africa. He was shot multiple times in the upper body whilst seated in the driver's seat of his white Toyota Corolla resulting in his death. Kinnear was a lieutenant colonel in the South African Police Service (SAPS) and was the section commander for the Western Cape anti-gang unit. Former pro rugby player Zane Killian was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with Kinnear's murder. Kinnear's mobile phone had been illegally tracked 2,116 times by Killian before his murder using a specialised mobile phone tracking device and software.At the time of his death Kinnear was investigating a gun racketeering case involving the alleged organised crime boss Nafiz Modack and 8 high-ranking police officers. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) reported that Kinnear's death could result in the collapse of a number of high-profile organised crime cases that he was investigating. The same report stated that there was a “rogue unit” in the Western Cape Crime Intelligence Division of SAPS and commended Kinnear's investigation of corruption within the organisation.Modack and two additional suspects (Amaal Jantjies and Janick Adonis) were arrested and charged for Kinnear's murder in 2021. Recordings made by Jantjies indicated that a prior unsuccessful attempt on Kinnear's life had been made when a hand grenade failed to detonate in front of Kinnear's home on 23 November 2019. Following the first attempt a police detail was instructed to guard Kinnear's home but was removed on 19 December 2019.As of January 2022 the IPID had lodged two criminal charges against National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole for refusing to cooperate with its investigation into Kinnear's murder.In April 2022 one suspect, Fareez Smith (a self confessed member of the Junky Funky Kids street gang), pleaded guilty of attempting to assassinate Kinnear at his home in November 2019. Smith's attempted assassination of Kinnear failed when the grenade he was given to implement the assassination with fell out of his pocket in view of police officers stationed outside Kinnear's home. Smith was convicted of attempted murder, illegal possession of explosives, and contravening the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.

Matroosfontein is a suburb in Cape Town, South Africa, located near the Cape Town International Airport. It is a predominantly residential area. While originally established for the Coloured community during the apartheid era, Matroosfontein now includes African, Cape Malay, and other ethnic groups. During apartheid, Matroosfontein was part of the government's forced relocation policies, which moved non-white residents from the city center to outlying areas. It is close to Gugulethu.

Mzoli's was a butchery in Gugulethu, a township on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa. Since Mzoli's opened in early 2003, the restaurant had become a popular gathering spot for Cape Town residents and a tourist attraction. Amongst Gugulethu's residents, Mzoli's Place has a reputation for public drunkenness and disrespect for the local community. Mzoli's is named after the founder and owner, Mzoli Ngcawuzele. The restaurant closed indefinitely in May 2021 partly due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Heideveld got its name due to the fact that the area used to have large grazing grounds (or field which translates to "Veld" in Afrikaans) where a popular flower "Heide Blommetjie" was in abundance. The area used to be a dairy farm and cows used to graze amongst the Heide Blommetjies.

Gugulethu is a township in the Western Cape, South Africa and is 15 km from Cape Town. Its name is a contraction of igugu lethu, which is Xhosa for our pride. The township was established along with Nyanga in the 1960s.
