Richland County is located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 416,147, making it the second-most populous county in South Carolina, behind only Greenville County. The county seat and largest community is Columbia, the state capital. The county was established on March 12, 1785. Richland County is part of the Columbia, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 2020, the center of population of South Carolina was located in Richland County, in the city of Columbia. The county is also the location of the geographic center of South Carolina, southeast of Columbia.

The Overcreek Dam was an earth-fill embankment dam on Rockyford Creek, a tributary of Gills Creek, in Forest Acres of Richland County, South Carolina. It was breached by flooding on 5 October 2015, due to record rainfall in South Carolina.

Richland Northeast High School is a public high school in Columbia, South Carolina. Richland Northeast, often abbreviated as RNE, RNH, or RNHS, was founded in 1978 to handle the excessive population of students at Spring Valley High School. Spring Valley is now Richland Northeast's largest rival in sporting events. Richland Northeast is one of five high schools in Richland County School District 2 (RSD2).

Forest Acres is a city in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 10,606 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Columbia, South Carolina, Metropolitan Statistical Area and is an enclave of the city of Columbia.

Millwood is the site and ruins of an antebellum plantation house at 6100 Garner's Ferry Road (US 76), Columbia, South Carolina. Owned by Colonel Wade Hampton II and his wife Ann Fitzsimmons Hampton, it was the boyhood home of their first son Wade Hampton III and other children. He later became a Confederate general and later, South Carolina governor, and U.S. Senator. After the death of Wade Hampton II in 1858, the house was inherited by his four unmarried daughters. On February 17, 1865, it was burned by General Sherman's troops the same time the city of Columbia was burned. On March 18, 1971, the ruins were named to the National Register of Historic Places.

Arcadia Lakes is a town in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 861 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia, South Carolina, Metropolitan Statistical Area.

William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a historic hospital complex and national historic district located at Columbia, South Carolina. The district encompasses 19 contributing buildings and a covered walk. Most of the oldest buildings are two- to three-story brick structures and feature a Georgian Colonial Revival architectural style. The original buildings date to 1932, with additional buildings completed in 1937, 1945, and 1946. A major expansion occurred in the 1970s. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter named the hospital after U.S. Representative from South Carolina, William Jennings Bryan Dorn. The complex includes the hospital, recreation, dining, and residential buildings. The complex is operated by the Veterans Health Administration.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Columbia Place (formerly Columbia Mall) is one of South Carolina's largest shopping malls, with nearly 1,100,000 square feet (100,000 m2) of retail space. The mall is located just off Interstate 20 and Interstate 77 on Two Notch Road in Columbia, South Carolina. The mall's current only anchor store is Macy's.

Woodlands is a historic home located near Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina. It was built in 1896, and is a two-story, wood-frame farmhouse with a cross-gable roof and classical and Folk Victorian ornamentation. The front facade features a grand two-tiered porch. Also on the property is a detached kitchen building. Woodlands was the home of Harry R. E. Hampton (1897-1980), a leading journalist and conservationist in South Carolina.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
