Piazza Cordusio

Cordusio is a station on Line 1 of the Milan Metro in the busy, commercial Piazzale Cordusio. It was opened on 1 November 1964 as part of the inaugural section of the Metro, between Sesto Marelli and Lotto. The station is near the piazza del Duomo, and the long via Dante, which leads up to the Castello Sforzesco. As with the square in which it is located, it takes its name from the Curia Ducis, the Court of Duke: this name dates back to the Longobard period.

Casa Broggi is a monumental building located at the intersections of Via Dante, Via Meravigli, and Via Santa Maria Segreta, at the northwest end of Piazza Cordusio. The polygonal palace has facades on the three streets mentioned above with the most scenic being the narrow edge on Via Meravigli. The structure was built for multiple use, with ground floor shops and residential apartments on the higher floors. The site had once housed the church of San Nazaro in Pietrasanta, which had been demolished in the late 19th century. The design was a collaboration in 1891 between Luigi Broggi and his pupil Giuseppe Sommaruga. Broggi lived in the palace after completion. The decoration is eclectic including columns, floral friezes, and telamons. Atypical for Milan is the Mansard roof, which gives the building a Parisian look. The building shows the movement towards the decorative Liberty style.

The Piccolo Teatro di Milano (translation: "Little Theatre of the City of Milan") is a theatre in Milan, Italy. Founded in 1947, it is Italy's first permanent theatre, and a national "teatro stabile", or permanent repertory company, and is considered a theatre of major national and European importance. The theatre has three venues: Teatro Grassi, in Via Rovello, between Sforza Castle and the Piazza del Duomo; Teatro Studio, which was originally intended to be the theater's rehearsal hall; and Teatro Strehler, which opened in 1998 with a seating capacity of 974. Its annual programme consists of approximately thirty performances. In addition, the venue hosts cultural events, from festivals and films, to concerts, conferences, and conventions, as well as supporting the Paolo Grassi Drama School.

Casa Panigarola (or Casa dei Panigarola), also known as Palazzo dei Notai ("Palace of the Notaries"), is a historic building of Milan, Italy, located in Piazza Mercanti, former city centre in the Middle Ages. It is named after the House of Panigarola, a family of notaries from Gallarate, that owned the building until 1741. The building thus served as a notary seat, and the activities therein were strictly related to those that occurred in the adjacent Palazzo della Ragione, where trials were held. The palace occupies the west side of the rectangular Piazza Mercanti city square. While its original structure dates back to the age of medieval communes, it was largely rebuilt in the 15th century in Gothic style. The facade was designed by Giovanni Solari in 1466 and largely restored in 1899 by Luca Beltrami. A minor restoration occurred in 1967, under the supervision of Antonio Cassi Ramelli. In the floor of the portico, there is a notable relief with the biscione, Milan's emblem under the House of Sforza. Another notable decoration of the palace is a ceramic plaque dating back to 1448, signed by Tommaso da Caponago (a 15th-century lawyer), that warns against the perils of recurring to the law to solve conflicts.

The Palazzo delle Scuole Palatine (Palace of the Palatine School) is a historic building of Milan, Italy, located in Piazza Mercanti, the former city centre in the Middle Ages. It served as the seat of the most prestigious higher school of medieval Milan. Many notable Milanese scholars of different ages studied or taught in these schools; Augustine of Hippo and Cesare Beccaria, among others, served as teachers in the Palatine. The current building dates back to 1644, when it replaced an older one, which had the same function and was destroyed by a fire. The school was established in Piazza Mercanti under Giovanni Maria Visconti. In 1644, they were destroyed by a fire, and rebuilt based on the prestigious model of the nearby Palazzo dei Giureconsulti, by architect Carlo Buzzi. The building is decorated with several monuments, including a statue of the Ancient Roman poet Ausonius and a plaque with one of his epigrams celebrating Milan as the "New Rome" of the 4th century. There is also a statue of Augustine by sculptor Pietro Lasagna.

The Palazzo della Ragione ("Palace of Wisdom" literally) is a historic building of Milan, Italy, located in Piazza Mercanti, facing the Loggia degli Osii. It was built in the 13th century and originally served as a broletto (i.e., an administrative building) as well as a judicial seat. As it was the second broletto to be built in Milan, it is also known as the Broletto Nuovo ("new broletto"). The palace is decorated with a relief representing Oldrado da Tresseno (podestà of Milan and fierce prosecutor of the Cathar heretics), and the bas relief of the scrofa semilanuta ("half-woolly sow"), which has been object of much controversy among scholars of the foundation and origins of Milan.
