Pollock Castle, also known as Pollok Castle, was a tower house castle located to the west of modern Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire, on the opposite side of the M77 motorway from the town. The castle appears on Timothy Pont's map (1583–96), as a castle named Pook and also appears on Joan Blaeu's map of 1654.The castle was rebuilt between 1686 and 1694 by Sir Robert Pollok, 1st Baronet of Pollok, with a new east wing. Further extensions included an enclosing courtyard with an ornate gateway and formal walled garden with corner pavilions. William Roy's map (1747–55) shows the castle and landscape in detail.It was destroyed by fire in 1882, but rebuilt afterwards in 1886 in the Scots Baronial Style architecture, incorporating the surviving elements of the earlier structure. It was requisitioned by the British Army in 1939 during World War II, bar one wing occupied by the Pollok family throughout the war and the lands used as an ammunition dump. In 1944, Miss Fergusson Pollok, the then owner, abandoned the castle and it then deteriorated. It was required to be demolished in 1952. In 1970, all that remained of the castle were the two gatehouses, the stable, and the gardener's cottage, the castle's stone foundations, the south entrance steps and a few stones that once formed the castle's massive walls. Some of the ruins were dynamited in the 1970s and a large prefabricated house erected on the castle foundations by Mr Greer, who purchased Pollok Castle Estate from a timber merchant. The gatehouses at each end of the estate were also rebuilt, along with the gardener's house and the castle stables, and sold on as private residences. The prefabricated house was removed and the site cleared in the early 1990s and the castle was again rebuilt in 2003, in the Scottish Adam style. Some of the original foundations and castle walls remain, on which the house has been built, notably a portion of the five-meter-high (16 ft) north wall still remains.

Netherplace is a hamlet in East Renfrewshire. It is to the west of Newton Mearns, and adjacent to the M77 motorway. The settlement is almost entirely along the Netherplace Road. It contains a farm, as well as some houses, and a reservoir. It also used to be home to the Netherplace Dye Works, which was demolished in 2016, after a fly infestation across the towns of Newton Mearns and Clarkston.

Lyoncross railway station was intended to be a railway station between the towns of Newton Mearns and Barrhead, Scotland as part of the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway.

Balgray railway station is a proposed railway station that will serve communities to the south of Barrhead (particularly Springhall and Auchenback) on the Neilston branch of the Cathcart Circle Lines. The name of the proposed new station was chosen as the station will be located next to Balgray Reservoir, part of the Dams to Darnley Country Park. A plan to open this station was announced by Network Rail on 23 November 2023 with construction expecting to commence in 2024. Funding for the station will come from the Glasgow City Region City Deal, and delivered in partnership with East Renfrewshire Council. A planned railway station, Lyoncross railway station, was partially built on the line close to the location but never opened to the public. The intended location of the station can be discerned by the widening of the tracks just east of Aurs Road between Newton Mearns and Barrhead. Another disused station, Barrhead South railway station on the Paisley and Barrhead District Railway was also located nearby.

Newton Mearns (Scots: The Mearns; Scottish Gaelic: Baile Ùr na Maoirne [ˈpalə ˈuːɾ nə ˈmɯːrˠɲə]) is a suburban town and the largest settlement in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. It lies 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Glasgow City Centre on the main road to Ayrshire, 410 feet (125 m) above sea level. It has a population of approximately 26,993, stretching from Whitecraigs and Kirkhill in the northeast to Maidenhill in the southeast, to Westacres and Greenlaw in the west and Capelrig/Patterton in the northwest.It is part of the Greater Glasgow conurbation. Its name derives from being a new town of the Mearns (from Scottish Gaelic "a' Mhaoirne" meaning a stewartry).

Parkhouse is a residential neighbourhood of Glasgow, Scotland close to the border with East Renfrewshire. It is located on the south-western edge of the city, close to the towns of Barrhead and Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire. Within the G53 postcode area and the Greater Pollok ward of the Glasgow City Council administration, the eastern cluster of private housing was constructed in the 1980s (branching off Craigflower Road) and the western part in the 2010s, prior to which it was open farmland annexed to Glasgow in 1938.It is one of two places in Glasgow called Parkhouse, the other being an older housing development near Milton in the far north of the city. However, they are rarely confused as neither is particularly well known outside local circles, and wider discussions of issues affecting the neighbourhoods take place under the names of their wider wards or constituencies.

Patterton railway station is a railway station serving the Patterton, Crookfur and Greenlaw areas of the town of Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire and the Deaconsbank and Jennylind areas of the City of Glasgow, Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail and lies on the Neilston branch of the Cathcart Circle Lines, 7+3⁄4 miles (12.5 km) southwest of Glasgow Central.

Southpark Village is a housing estate in the Darnley area of the Scottish city of Glasgow. The northwestern area was built during the mid to late 1980s, but the southeastern part was built in the late 2010s. It is located on the south-western edge of the city, close to the towns of Barrhead and Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire. Nearby areas within Glasgow itself are the rest of Darnley to the north, Deaconsbank to the east, and Parkhouse to the northwest, although Southpark is physically separated from all but the rest of Darnley by the Dams to Darnley Country Park and M77 motorway.

Patterton is an area of the town of Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire and the Deaconsbank and Jennylind areas of the City of Glasgow, Scotland. It is served by Patterton railway station.

Glasgow Reform Synagogue is a synagogue in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, Scotland. It is a member of the Movement for Reform Judaism and is the only Reform synagogue in Scotland. The synagogue was first known as Glasgow Progressive Synagogue, then Glasgow New Synagogue, before taking its current name. The synagogue was founded in 1933 and moved to its present premises in 1968.Nancy Morris, the first female rabbi in Scotland, was the synagogue's rabbi from 2003 to 2011, followed by Dr Kate Briggs (2014–2016).

The Darnley Lime Works Tramway and Mineral Railway consisted of a narrow gauge field railway and probably a standard gauge works railway at today's Dams to Darnley Country Park in East Renfrewshire, 9.7 km southwest of Glasgow. They were successively operated at least from 1898 to 1959.

St Luke's High School is a school in the Auchenback area of Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, in the Greater Glasgow area of Scotland. The school focuses on its Catholic ethos in teaching and its close relationship with the communities of Barrhead and Neilston, as well as areas further afield including Paisley, Pollok, Glenburn and Uplawmoor.
