Melrose High School is a government school located in the Canberra suburb of Pearce. It serves years 7 through to 10. The school's name is taken from an old property that was located in the Woden area, which in turn was named after the town called Melrose in Scotland. The school was opened on 27 January 1970 and had its 50th anniversary in 2020. Melrose High School serves approximately 825 students (as of 2021). The school has a number of outdoor sporting facilities such as a large oval, a mountain bike track, and tennis and netball courts. It also has a synthetic soccer pitch.

Mawson () (postcode 2607) is a suburb in the Canberra, Australia district of Woden Valley. The suburb was gazetted in 1966 and named after the Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson. The theme for street names is Antarctic exploration.Mawson is next to the suburbs of Phillip, O'Malley, Isaacs, Farrer, Torrens and Pearce. It is bounded by Yamba Drive, Beasley Street and Athlon Drive. The neighbourhood of Swinger Hill on the other side of Ainsworth Street is often associated with Mawson but is in fact part of the suburb of Phillip.

It is bordered by Beasley St to the south, Melrose and Athllon drives to the east and the Mount Taylor nature reserve to the west; a green corridor forms the northern border with Chifley. Marist College Canberra is an independent Roman Catholic primary and secondary day school for boys, founded in 1968 by the Marist Brothers. Mount Taylor is a prominent hill with an elevation of 856 metres (2,808 ft) AHD  that is located between the Woden Valley, Weston Creek district and Tuggeranong Valley, in Canberra, within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. Mount Taylor is part of the Canberra Nature Park and is surrounded by the suburbs of Kambah, Fisher, Waramanga, Chifley, Pearce, and Torrens. There are walking tracks to the peak. While there is no public road access to the peak there is a fire trail up the mountain from the end of Waldock St, Chifley where there is also a car park and picnic tables. The fire trail (also known as the management trail) is normally closed to public vehicular access by locked gates, but the gates contain access points for walkers. The trail is especially popular with families and older walkers as it provides the easiest and most leisurely access to the peak. Originally a dirt road, it was partially sealed in 2009 on the steeper grades to make it safer for walkers and mountain bike riders.

Phillip (postcode: 2606) is a suburb of Canberra, Australia in the district of Woden Valley. It is located in the centre of the district and contains the district's main commercial centre, Woden Town Centre. Phillip had a residential population of 5,197 at the 2021 census. 67.0% of the population lived in flats. Many more flats are being planned or built. The suburb is named after Arthur Phillip, the first Governor of New South Wales. The suburb name was gazetted on 12 May 1966. Streets in Phillip use names associated with the First, Second and Third Fleets; streets in the Swinger Hill were named after architects.As the commercial and geographical centre of Woden, Phillip contains many of the district's key facilities. As well as the Woden Town Centre, which includes the Westfield Woden shopping centre, a bus interchange and the Lovett Tower (the tallest commercial office building in Canberra), it has its own commercial area located along Botany, Townshend and Parramatta Streets. Eddison Park, including Woden Skate Park and Disc Golf Course, and the Woden Cemetery are located in the suburb. Phillip also contains a number of sporting facilities, including the Phillip Enclosed Oval, which has been known as Football Park since 1981 and was the headquarters of Australian rules football in Canberra during the 1980s and 1990s, and the Phillip Swimming & Ice Skating Centre, home to the CBR Brave of the Australian Ice Hockey League. Chifley (postcode: 2606) is a suburb of Canberra, Australia, in the district of Woden Valley. The suburb's area is 1.6 square kilometres (0.62 sq mi). It was named after Joseph Benedict Chifley, Prime Minister of Australia from July 1945 to December 1949. The streets of Chifley are named for scientists and educationalists.It is next to the suburbs of Pearce, Lyons and Phillip. Behind it stands Mount Taylor, which is a nature park. It is bordered by Hindmarsh Drive and Melrose Drive. A local shopping centre and Chifley Neighbourhood Oval are located in the suburb.

The Division of Namadgi was an Australian Electoral Division in the Australian Capital Territory. It was located in the southern suburbs of Canberra, and included all suburbs in the district of Tuggeranong, the southern Woden Valley suburbs of Chifley, Farrer, Isaacs, Mawson, Pearce and Torrens, and the remainder of the ACT south and west of the Murrumbidgee River.The Division was proclaimed at the redistribution of 20 September 1994, and was first contested at the 1996 federal election. It was abolished at the redistribution of 10 December 1997. It was held for its entire lifetime by former ACT MLA Annette Ellis, who subsequently became the member for Canberra after Namadgi's abolition.

The suburb was gazetted as a Division Name on 12 May 1966 but residential housing was not built until the late 1980s. Isaacs is next to the suburbs of O'Malley, Mawson and Farrer. It is bounded by Yamba Drive and Ngunawal Drive. Located in the suburb is the Canberra Nature Park of Isaacs Ridge and the Long Gully pine plantation. The suburb is named after Sir Isaac Isaacs (1855–1948), politician, Chief Justice and the first Australian-born Governor-General of Australia (1931–1936).

The centre comprises four anchor tenants - David Jones, Big W, Coles and Woolworths - and more than 250 other retail, leisure, and dining outlets.

Woden Town Centre is the town centre of the district of Woden Valley in the Australian Capital Territory. It is located in the suburb of Phillip. The town centre has a variety of shops and amenities, including office blocks that house Australian departments, and shopping centres like Westfield Woden. Like Phillip, the town centre was established in 1966 and the suburb it is located in was named after Arthur Phillip, who was the first Governor of New South Wales. In 1971, a flash flood caused the deaths of seven people, which occurred right near the Woden Town Centre. The centre is the location of the third tallest building in Canberra, the Lovett Tower (formerly known as the MLC Tower).
