Rivière des Prairies

The Rivière des Prairies generating station (in French: Centrale de la Rivière des Prairies) is a run of river hydroelectric power station on the Rivière des Prairies between the islands of Jesus and Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Built in 1929, it is now managed and operated by Hydro-Québec. It has a generating capacity of 48 MW. There is no lock allowing boats to bypass the dam. Duvernay is a district in the eastern part of Laval and was a separate city until the municipal mergers on August 6, 1965.

L'Île-de-la-Visitation Nature Park (French: Parc-nature de l'Île-de-la-Visitation) is a large nature park in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville and Montréal-Nord boroughs of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Much of the park is on Île de la Visitation, with the rest being opposite the island on the shore of the Island of Montreal. Bridges connect the two sections. The park was established in 1984 during the renovation of the Rivière des Prairies generating station. It has an area of 34 hectares.The footpaths along the shore allow for walking and offer views of the Rivière des Prairies. The park has 8.8 kilometres (5.5 mi) of hiking trails and 3.6 kilometres (2.2 mi) of bike paths. Fishing is allowed in designated areas. Various historical monuments (Milling site, Maison du Pressoir, Maison du Meunier) and picnic tables are located along the trail. In winter, cross-country skiing trails are offered. There is also a small hill that is used for tobogganing by children. The current of the Rivière des Prairies is calm around the island.

Pie IX Bridge is a bridge in Quebec, spanning the Rivière des Prairies. It connects the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul area of Laval, on Île Jésus, and the borough of Montréal-Nord in Montreal, on the Island of Montreal. The bridge was part of Autoroute 25 until the construction of the new toll bridge for Autoroute 25. It is now part of Quebec Route 125. While it was originally called Le Caron Bridge, after Joseph Le Caron, an early missionary to the Hurons, the bridge has since been renamed Pie IX Bridge, after Pie-IX Boulevard. The Boulevard itself was named after Pope Pius IX (Pie is the French name for Pius).

The Mondial Loto-Québec de Laval, also known as Mondial Choral, or Mondial Choral Loto-Québec (up to 2011) is a summer festival occurring in Laval, Quebec, Canada which takes place annually since 2005. The main sponsor of this occasion is Loto-Québec and Grégory Charles is the Art-Director and president.

The Papineau-Leblanc Bridge was one of the first cable-stayed spans in North America. It is part of Quebec Autoroute 19 and is one of the connections between Laval and Montreal, Quebec, Canada, spanning Rivière des Prairies. It was fabricated from weathering steel and has an orthotropic deck. The freeway ends abruptly at the southern end of the bridge at the intersection of Henri Bourassa Boulevard, where Autoroute 19 follows Avenue Papineau down to Quebec Autoroute 40. The Leblanc portion of the name comes from the name of a street in Laval that was expropriated to build the autoroute. That street was named after Alpha Leblanc, a local landowner. Portions of that street remain on both sides of the autoroute. In 2000, a proposition to rename the bridge after the late Pietro Rizzuto was initially approved, then rejected by the Commission de Toponymie du Québec, which ruled that the name Papineau-Leblanc was already entrenched in local culture and non-controversial. Most locals simply refer to this bridge as Papineau.

Sault-au-Récollet (Recollet Rapids, in English) is a neighbourhood in Montreal. It is located in the eastern edge of the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville bordering the Rivière des Prairies. Autoroute 19 connects Sault-au-Récollet to the city of Laval. The neighbourhood was designated as a heritage site by the city of Montreal in 1992.The Church of the Visitation at Sault-au-Récollet is the oldest church on the Island of Montreal, was built between 1749 and 1752. The Streetcar suburb was annexed by the former Montreal borough of Ahuntsic-Bordeaux in 1918. A housing boom, mostly made up of multiplexes, followed in the 1940s and 1950s.

The De la Concorde overpass collapse occurred at a bridge over Quebec Autoroute 19 near Montreal, Quebec, Canada, at midday on September 30, 2006. On that Saturday, around 12:30 pm, the centre section of the south lane of an overpass (65-foot or 19.8-metre section of a three-lane overpass) collapsed in Laval, a suburb of Montreal, on Boulevard de la Concorde running over Autoroute 19. The collapsed section crushed two vehicles under it, killing five people and seriously injuring six others who went over the edge while travelling on the overpass. The north-lane half, along the same bridge, did not collapse. The autoroute was closed for almost four weeks, "disabling an important north-south link between Montreal and its northern suburbs as well as the Laurentian region".

L'Église de la Visitation de la Bienheureuse-Vierge-Marie (English: Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary) is a church in the neighbourhood of Recollet Falls in Montreal. The oldest church on the island of Montreal, it was built between 1749 and 1752.

École secondaire Calixa-Lavallée is a francophone public secondary school located in the borough of Montréal-Nord, Montreal, Quebec. Part of the Commission scolaire de la Pointe-de-l'Île (CSPI), it was originally in the catholic School board Commission des écoles catholiques de Montréal(CECM) before the 1998 reorganization of School boards from religious communities into linguistic communities in Quebec. In 1998, along with some other schools in the eastern portion of CECM, it was transferred into the territory of the former Commission scolaire Jérôme-Le Royer, which was replaced by CSPI. École secondaire Calixa-Lavallée offers regular and special education programs, welcoming classes and also professional and adults programs. This school hosts actually 1 661 students and 132 teachers.

Paul VI High School (French: École secondaire Paul VI) is a high school located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is a part of the English Montreal School Board. Prior to 1998 it was operated by the Montreal Catholic School Commission.

Collège Regina Assumpta (Regina Assumpta is Latin for "Assumption of the Queen") is a subsidized private, selective French-language school located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, that was established in 1955 by the Sisters of Notre-Dame Congregation. The principal is Michel Laplante. The financing principal is Marie-Andrée Delorme, the principal of pedagogical services is Julie Duchesne and the principal of the Culture and Sports Centre and principal of equipment is Christophe Bancilhon and after the school activities director is Stéphan Arbour. Although it used to be a school for Catholic girls, it is now open to children of both genders and of any religion.
