The Butterfly Club is a performing arts venue in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Drawing from a growing interest in cabaret, the club was conceived and created by artist and entrepreneur, Matthew Grant. Grant lived and worked from the building from 1993, opening it to the public in 1999. Grant sold the club in November 2003. By 2006 the club was Melbourne's only full-time cabaret venue.The Butterfly Club has presented more than 1,000 new works, with performers including Tim Minchin and Eddie Perfect. Under the stewardship of David Read and Neville Sice, over eight years, the venue became sustainable using an arts model which doesn't rely on public subsidy.The club, together with the Australian National Academy of Music, has played a role in developing the Melbourne Cabaret Festival. In January 2011. The Butterfly Club again changed hands to new director, Simone Pulga.In December 2012, The Butterfly Club announced a planned relocation to a building on Carson Pl. In conjunction with this relocation, a fundraising effort through crowdfunding and social media campaigns, as well as media coverage, was launched under the tagline 'Save The Butterfly Club.' Following the relocation, The Butterfly Club began trading from its new home, in the Melbourne CBD, in February 2013.

South Melbourne is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Australia, 3 km south of Melbourne's Central Business District (CBD). It is in the local government area of the City of Port Phillip. At the 2016 census, South Melbourne had a population of 10,920. Historically known as Emerald Hill, it was one of the first of Melbourne's suburbs to adopt full municipal status and is one of Melbourne's oldest suburban areas, notable for its well preserved Victorian era streetscapes. The current boundaries are complex. Starting at the east end of Dorcas Street, it runs along the rear of properties on St Kilda Road, then south along Albert Road, north up Canterbury Road, along the rear of the north side of St Vincent Place, zigzags west along St Vincent Street, then north up Pickles Street. There is then an arm of former industrial land to the west between Boundary Road, the freeway and Ferrars Street. It then runs along Market Street to Kingsway, then up Dorcas Street to St Kilda Road.

The See Yup Temple (Chinese: 四邑關帝廟) is a heritage-listed Chinese temple located at 76 Raglan Street, South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The current building was erected in 1866 for the See Yup Society, as the principal centre of worship and death registry of descendants from the See Yup area in Victoria. The temple is dedicated to Kuan Ti. It also contains halls to Ts'ai Sheng Yeh, the Taoist God of Wealth and to Kuanyin, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy and Compassion. It is the oldest surviving and continuously operating Chinese temple in Australia.

Emerald Hill was an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, Australia. It covered part of the inner-city suburb South Melbourne and consisted part of the previous Electoral district of South Melbourne which was abolished in 1859. (The other part of the South Melbourne electorate became the Electoral district of Sandridge).

Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), is a government-funded co-educational selective and specialist secondary day school, with speciality in the performing and visual arts, located within the Melbourne Arts Precinct in Southbank, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 1978, VCASS teaches students from Year 7 to Year 12; and has an enrolment of 370 students.Students are accepted after annual auditions and interviews. All students share academic subjects, but follow either a specialised dance, music, theatre arts or visual arts training program for half the day. Southbank is an inner urban neighbourhood of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 1 km south of the Melbourne central business district. Its local government area are the cities of Melbourne and Port Phillip. At the 2016 Census, Southbank had a population of 18,709. Its southernmost area is considered part of the central business district of the city. Southbank is bordered to the north by the Yarra River, and to the east by St Kilda Road. Southbank's southern and western borders are bounded by Dorcas Street, Kings Way, Market Street, Ferrars Street, and a triangle bordered by Gladstone Street, Montague Street, and the West Gate Freeway.Southbank was formerly a mostly industrial area, and simply part of the locality of South Melbourne, and the City of South Melbourne. It was transformed into a densely populated district of high rise apartment and office buildings beginning in the early 1990s, as part of an urban renewal program. With the exceptions of the cultural precinct along St Kilda Road, few of the older industrial buildings were identified for retention. Today, Southbank is dominated by high-rise development. It is one of the primary business centres in Greater Melbourne, being the headquarters of Treasury Wine Estates, Crown Limited, Alumina, Incitec Pivot, The Herald and Weekly Times (including the Herald Sun), as well as regional offices of many major corporations, in a cluster of towers with over 340,000 square metres of office space in 2008. Southbank Promenade and Southgate Restaurant and Shopping Precinct, on the southern bank of the Yarra River, extending to Crown Casino, is one of Melbourne's major entertainment precincts. Southgate's landmark Ophelia sculpture by Deborah Halpern has been used to represent Melbourne in tourism campaigns.

Lakeside Stadium is an Australian sports arena in the South Melbourne suburb of Albert Park. Comprising an athletics track and soccer stadium, it currently serves as the home ground and administrative base for association football club South Melbourne FC, Athletics Victoria, Athletics Australia, Victorian Institute of Sport and Australian Little Athletics. The venue was built on the site of a former Australian rules football and cricket ground, the Lakeside Oval (also called the Lake Oval and the South Melbourne Cricket Ground), which served for more than a century as the home ground of the South Melbourne Cricket Club and most notably as the home of the South Melbourne Football Club from 1879-1915, 1917-1941 and 1947-1981, though Australian rules football had been played at the site for nine years prior to the oval's construction. The ground has also been used for soccer from at least 1883.It is one of four state-supported sporting facilities in Melbourne - the others being the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), the MSAC Institute of Training (MIT) and the State Netball and Hockey Centre (SNHC) - organised under the banner of Melbourne Sports Centres.
