Kwinana Power Station (KPS) was Synergy's second-largest power station, located in Naval Base, Western Australia within the City of Kwinana. At its peak, power was produced from six turbines driven by steam from boilers fired by coal, natural gas or fuel oil, and one gas turbine. The steam turbines closed in 2015; however, two gas turbines continue to operate on the site. This is not to be confused with Cockburn Power Station to its immediate south. KPS was originally built in 1970 as an oil-fired power station, however it was later converted to coal due to the rising price of oil caused by the 1973 oil crisis. This project received an 'Engineering Excellence Award' from the Institution of Engineers Australia (Engineers Australia) in 1980.A 20 MW gas turbine, able to be operated on natural gas or diesel fuel, was added in 1972 and took the total nameplate rating to 900 MW which was the station's peak. With greatly increased availability of natural gas from the North West Shelf Venture project, natural gas firing was introduced in the mid 1980s. In 2005 oil burning was re-introduced making the power station unique in Western Australia as it could burn the three fuels: coal, natural gas and oil. Cockburn Power Station (CKB) is a power station in Naval Base, Western Australia within the City of Kwinana. The station was commissioned by Western Power Corporation in 2003 and is immediately south of the closed Kwinana Power Station. It has a 160 MW natural gas powered Alstom GT13E2 gas turbine which provides steam to an 80 MW steam turbine that together generate a total 240 MW of electricity. It was the first combined cycle gas turbine power station in Western Australia. It came under the control of Verve Energy in 2006 when Western Power was split, and since 2014 has been under control of Synergy.

The Perth Seawater Desalination Plant, located in Naval Base, south of Perth, Western Australia, turns seawater from Cockburn Sound into nearly 140 megalitres of drinking water per day, supplying the Perth metropolitan area.The salt water reverse-osmosis (SWRO) plant was the first of its kind in Australia, and became operational in 2006. It covers several acres in an industrial park near the suburb of Kwinana Beach. Electricity for the plant is generated by the 80 MW Emu Downs Wind Farm located in the state's Midwest region near Cervantes. The wind farm contributes 270 GWh/year into the general power grid, more than offsetting the 180 GWh/year requirement from the desalination plant.The desalination plant, with 12 SWRO trains with a capacity of 160 megalitres per day and six BWRO (brackish water) trains delivering a final product of 144 megalitres per day, was expected to have one of the world’s lowest specific energy consumptions, due in part to the use of pressure exchanger energy recovery devices supplied by Energy Recovery Inc. The devices are isobaric chamber types which recover energy in the brine stream and deliver it to water going to the membrane feed at a net transfer efficiency at up to 98%. As a condition of its continued operation, the Perth plant has a comprehensive environmental monitoring program, measuring the seawater intake and brine outfall.Excess water from the plant is stored in the hills dams. In early 2008, the plant was shut down on two occasions due to reduced dissolved oxygen levels in Cockburn Sound.

The Kwinana Waste to Energy Plant is a waste-to-energy power station under construction in Kwinana Beach, Western Australia. Once completed, the facility is scheduled to process in excess of 400,000 tonnes (880 million pounds) of waste and will produce 36 MW of power.

The Fremantle Outer Harbour is the part of Fremantle Harbour located in the Cockburn Sound, at the City of Kwinana, Western Australia. Fremantle Harbour consists of the Inner Harbour, which is situated on the mouth of the Swan River; and the Outer Harbour, which is 20 km to the south. It is managed by the Fremantle Port Authority. The Outer Harbour's creation dates back to the Stephenson-Hepburn Report and was initiated in 1955.

Between 1882 and 1886, European settlement began in the area when a community consisting of small mixed farms, named Hope Valley after the property of its first settler George Postans, was established. Hope Valley was officially gazetted as a locality in 1962.

Perth Motorplex is a motorsport venue located at Kwinana Beach, Western Australia. It caters mainly for drag racing and speedway, although other events are held there regularly. Over 275,000 patrons attend the venue each year to many varied events. The Perth Motorplex holds rounds of the World Series Sprintcars championship.

Kwinana Cogeneration Plant was a cogeneration facility located 40 kilometres (25 mi) south of Perth, Western Australia that operated from 1994 to 2022. It provided steam and electrical power to the BP Australia Kwinana Oil Refinery and electricity to Synergy, the State owned generator/retailer. As a cogeneration plant, Kwinana supplied both steam and electrical power to its two customers. Steam production from the plant came predominantly from the waste heat from the gas turbine exhausts and was supported by burning refinery fuel gas from the BP Refinery using 'Duct Burners' inside the Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG). The steam produced drove a steam turbine, further enhancing the plant's efficiency, with BP's steam supply coming from the extraction port on the steam turbine after some pressure and temperature had been lost. Kwinana produced 119 MW of electricity, or approximately 6% of Western Australia's requirements. It was primarily fueled by natural gas from Western Australia's North West Shelf gas fields and delivered to the plant by the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline. The plant was certified for its environmental practices (ISO 14001), quality assurance (ISO 9001) and health and safety (AS4801 & BS18001).

Mandogalup is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kwinana. Its postcode is 6167. The area of this suburb was originally referred to as "7 Mile Camp", but when a townsite was declared here in 1923 it was named "Balmanup". Lake Balmanup was an alternative name for Mandogalup Swamp. In 1945 it was found that the townsite was more commonly known as Mandogalup and it was changed to Mandogalup in 1946. It is an Aboriginal name, the meaning of which is unknown. As part of the Group Settlement Scheme and incoming families avoiding Perth during the war years, the area was a food bowl containing many farms in the arable land amongst the wetlands. Agriculture has declined with the sprawl of the urban area and the resulting increases in land values. The suburb also comprises a volunteer fire station with 3 vehicles and is fairly busy in the summer months. Mandogalup is home to the Bala Murugan Temple, which serves the Western Australian Tamil Hindu community of Sri Lankan, Indian, Malaysian and Singaporean origin.

Kwinana Oil Refinery was sited on the shore of Cockburn Sound at Kwinana, near Fremantle, Western Australia. Built by the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company and completed in 1955, it was the largest oil refinery in Australia, with a capacity of 138,000 barrels per day (21,900 m3/d). It was closed by BP in March 2021 to be converted to an import-only terminal.

Postans is an unpopulated suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kwinana. The suburb is named after George Postans who was one of the first settlers in the area. He arrived in the Colony as a convict in 1850 and after he was released he bought 100 acres (0.40 km2) of land in 1882. The suburb was formerly known as "Caledonia". An agriculture research station known as "Medina Research Station", part of the Department of Agriculture and Food of the state government of Western Australia, is located in the suburb. The suburb is otherwise dominated by several quarries, a tailing pond of the nearby Alcoa alumina refinery and a facility called the "Kwinana Wastewater Treatment Plant".
