Kwinana Cogeneration Plant

Kwinana Oil Refinery was sited on the shore of Cockburn Sound at Kwinana, near Fremantle, Western Australia. Built by the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company and completed in 1955, it was the largest oil refinery in Australia, with a capacity of 138,000 barrels per day (21,900 m3/d). It was closed by BP in March 2021 to be converted to an import-only terminal.

The Fremantle Outer Harbour is the part of Fremantle Harbour located in the Cockburn Sound, at the City of Kwinana, Western Australia. Fremantle Harbour consists of the Inner Harbour, which is situated on the mouth of the Swan River; and the Outer Harbour, which is 20 km to the south. It is managed by the Fremantle Port Authority. The Outer Harbour's creation dates back to the Stephenson-Hepburn Report and was initiated in 1955.

The Kwinana Waste to Energy Plant is a waste-to-energy power station under construction in Kwinana Beach, Western Australia. Once completed, the facility is scheduled to process in excess of 400,000 tonnes (880 million pounds) of waste and will produce 36 MW of power.

The Perth Seawater Desalination Plant, located in Naval Base, south of Perth, Western Australia, turns seawater from Cockburn Sound into nearly 140 megalitres of drinking water per day, supplying the Perth metropolitan area.The salt water reverse-osmosis (SWRO) plant was the first of its kind in Australia, and became operational in 2006. It covers several acres in an industrial park near the suburb of Kwinana Beach. Electricity for the plant is generated by the 80 MW Emu Downs Wind Farm located in the state's Midwest region near Cervantes. The wind farm contributes 270 GWh/year into the general power grid, more than offsetting the 180 GWh/year requirement from the desalination plant.The desalination plant, with 12 SWRO trains with a capacity of 160 megalitres per day and six BWRO (brackish water) trains delivering a final product of 144 megalitres per day, was expected to have one of the world’s lowest specific energy consumptions, due in part to the use of pressure exchanger energy recovery devices supplied by Energy Recovery Inc. The devices are isobaric chamber types which recover energy in the brine stream and deliver it to water going to the membrane feed at a net transfer efficiency at up to 98%. As a condition of its continued operation, the Perth plant has a comprehensive environmental monitoring program, measuring the seawater intake and brine outfall.Excess water from the plant is stored in the hills dams. In early 2008, the plant was shut down on two occasions due to reduced dissolved oxygen levels in Cockburn Sound.

Perth Motorplex is a motorsport venue located at Kwinana Beach, Western Australia. It caters mainly for drag racing and speedway, although other events are held there regularly. Over 275,000 patrons attend the venue each year to many varied events. The Perth Motorplex holds rounds of the World Series Sprintcars championship.

Cockburn Power Station (CKB) is a power station in Naval Base, Western Australia within the City of Kwinana. The station was commissioned by Western Power Corporation in 2003 and is immediately south of the closed Kwinana Power Station. It has a 160 MW natural gas powered Alstom GT13E2 gas turbine which provides steam to an 80 MW steam turbine that together generate a total 240 MW of electricity. It was the first combined cycle gas turbine power station in Western Australia. It came under the control of Verve Energy in 2006 when Western Power was split, and since 2014 has been under control of Synergy.

Kwinana Beach is an outer southwestern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kwinana. It is one of the traditional industrial suburbs in the Perth metropolitan region.

Kwinana Power Station (KPS) was Synergy's second-largest power station, located in Naval Base, Western Australia within the City of Kwinana. At its peak, power was produced from six turbines driven by steam from boilers fired by coal, natural gas or fuel oil, and one gas turbine. The steam turbines closed in 2015; however, two gas turbines continue to operate on the site. This is not to be confused with Cockburn Power Station to its immediate south. KPS was originally built in 1970 as an oil-fired power station, however it was later converted to coal due to the rising price of oil caused by the 1973 oil crisis. This project received an 'Engineering Excellence Award' from the Institution of Engineers Australia (Engineers Australia) in 1980.A 20 MW gas turbine, able to be operated on natural gas or diesel fuel, was added in 1972 and took the total nameplate rating to 900 MW which was the station's peak. With greatly increased availability of natural gas from the North West Shelf Venture project, natural gas firing was introduced in the mid 1980s. In 2005 oil burning was re-introduced making the power station unique in Western Australia as it could burn the three fuels: coal, natural gas and oil. The Kwinana Nickel Refinery is a nickel refinery in East Rockingham and Kwinana Beach, Western Australia. The refinery is operated by BHP and part of its Nickel West operations. Having originally been built by WMC Resources, it changed ownership in 2005 when BHP acquired WMC.

The City of Kwinana is a local government area of Western Australia. It covers an area of approximately 118 square kilometres in metropolitan Perth, and lies about 38 km south of Perth central business district, via the Kwinana Freeway. Kwinana maintains 287 km of roads and had a population of almost 39,000 as at the 2016 Census.

SS Kwinana was an Australian ocean-going cargo and passenger steamship. She was built in England in 1892 as the cargo ship SS Darius. In 1912 she changed owners, was refitted as a cargo and passenger ship and renamed Kwinana. She was damaged in 1920–21 by a fire in her cargo, and wrecked in 1922 when she drifted ashore about 15 miles (24 km) south of Fremantle, Western Australia. The site of her wreck is now called Kwinana Beach, and her remains are automatically protected by Australian Federal Law.

East Rockingham Waste to Energy is a waste-to-energy power station under construction located in East Rockingham, Western Australia. Once completed, the facility is scheduled to process in excess of 300,000 tonnes (660 million pounds) of waste and will produce 29 MW of power.
