Wombwell Main Football Club is a football club based in Wombwell, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. They are currently members of the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Premier Division and play at Hough Lane.

Wentworth and Dearne is a constituency in South Yorkshire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since its 2010 creation by John Healey, a member of the Labour Party who has served as Shadow Secretary of State for Defence since 2020.Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat will be subject to boundary changes, which will entail the loss of the two Dearne wards, offset by the addition of the City of Doncaster wards of Conisbrough, and Edlington and Warmsworth. As a consequence of these changes, it will be renamed Rawmarsh and Conisbrough, to be first contested at the next general election.

Jump is a village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. It is north-east of Hoyland, separated from it by the Jump Valley, through which a stream runs. According to local legend, Jump village was named by the local coal miners having to 'jump' over the stream to go to work.

The Lundhill Colliery explosion was a coal mining accident which took place on 19 February 1857 in Wombwell, Yorkshire, UK in which 189 men and boys aged between 10 and 59 died. It is one of the biggest industrial disasters in the country's history and it was caused by a firedamp explosion. It was the first disaster to appear on the front page of the Illustrated London News.

Wombwell (locally ) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. In the 2011 census, data for the town was split between the ward of Wombwell and small sections that fell into the wards of Darfield (specifically the area south of Pitt Street, including Broomhill) and Stairfoot (specifically the area south of Aldham Crescent). Added together, these record the town's population at approximately 15,316. Historically within the West Riding of Yorkshire, its name may have originally been "Womba's Well", meaning "well in a hollow".

The Elsecar Collieries were the coal mines sunk in and around Elsecar, a small village to the south of Barnsley in what is now South Yorkshire, but was traditionally in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The last operating mine, Elsecar Main, closed in 1983 and with its closure ended 230 years of mining in the village

Elsecar railway station is a railway station serving the village of Elsecar in South Yorkshire, England. It is on the Penistone Line and Hallam Line served by Northern Trains. The station was opened by the Midland Railway in July 1897 and was at one time known as Elsecar & Hoyland. CCTV was recently installed for the purposes of crime prevention. Other improvements to the station include new signage, lighting, and the installation of passenger information display screens to provide real-time service information. A new 85-bay car park at the station was opened in November 2013 - funded by South Yorkshire PTE, this cost £500,000 and is located behind the northbound platform.

Elsecar ( , locally ) is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. It is near to Jump and Wentworth, it is also 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Hoyland, 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Barnsley and 8 miles (13 km) north-east of Sheffield. Elsecar falls within the Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Ward of Hoyland Milton. Elsecar is unique as a name. It is thought to derive from the Old English personal name of Aelfsige (mentioned in Cartulary of Nostell Priory, 1259–66) and the Old Norse word kjarr, denoting a marsh or brushwood.From the late 18th century, Elsecar was transformed into an 'industrial estate village' for nearby Wentworth Woodhouse, with multiple collieries and two major ironworks. It is seen as one of the UK's first model villages and a precursor to Saltaire.A 1795 Newcomen steam engine at the Elsecar New Colliery is the oldest steam engine still in situ, anywhere in the world.The village now attracts over 500,000 visitors each year, to its heritage centre, historic sites and award-winning park.

Elsecar goods station was a goods facility constructed near the village of Elsecar, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, at the terminus of the South Yorkshire Railways branch line from Elsecar Junction on its Mexborough to Barnsley line. The total length of the line was 2 miles 1204 yards.The line from Elsecar Junction followed closely that of the Elsecar Branch of the Dearne and Dove Canal to its terminus at Elsecar where the sidings of Earl Fitzwillian's Elsecar Colliery are alongside. Also joining the line are the exchange sidings of Lidgett Colliery, reached by an incline from a triangular junction in the yard. The route of this tramway can still be seen today running between the hedgerows towards its summit and the point where it turns towards the colliery.In 1930 the facilities in the yard included a goods shed with crane and sidings to the Elsecar Ironworks, the local gas works as well as the building containing Earl Fitzwilliam's private railway station and other warehouse facilities. The facilities were closed in the early 1970s.

Wombwell Town Football Club is a football club based in Wombwell, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. They are currently members of the Northern Counties East League Division One and play at the Recreation Ground. The club was founded by former Barnsley players Karl Rose and Doug O'Connor.
