Willard Homestead (Newington, Connecticut)

Newington Junction is a section of the town of Newington, Connecticut. It is centered at the intersection of Willard Avenue (Route 173) and West Hill Road in the northwestern part of the town, in the area generally just south of the Hartford city line. The name of the area refers to the railroad junction where the railroad line from New Haven meets with the railroad line from Bristol and Waterbury. The development of Newington Junction as a result of the railroad was instrumental in the separation of the town of Newington from its mother town of Wethersfield. The area is also architecturally significant for the range of styles used in houses built during the period of significance of the area. The neighborhood contains houses with architectural styles from the late 18th century to the early 20th century. For reasons of both historical and architectural significance, a significant portion of the neighborhood has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places as historic districts. The architectural centerpiece of Newington Junction is the Willard Homestead and the Newington Junction Railroad Depot located in the center of the neighborhood. Both properties are separately listed on the National Register. Because the central area is now surrounded by incompatible modern structures, the architecturally significant areas of the neighborhood have been grouped into three clusters, each designated as a separate historic district, namely, Newington Junction South, North, and West Historic Districts.

Newington High School is a public high school located in Newington, Connecticut, on Route 174/Willard Avenue. Its address is 605 Willard Avenue. All students in the town of Newington seeking a public high school education attend Newington High School.

Newington Junction is a bus rapid transit station on the CTfastrak line opened in 2015 located off Willard Avenue (CT-173) in the Newington Junction neighborhood of Newington, Connecticut. A new commuter rail station named Newington, to be located adjacent to the bus station, is also planned as later phase of the CTrail Hartford Line.The bus station and surrounding neighborhood are named for the NRHP listed Newington Junction Railroad Depot building and freight house, built on the site in the 1890s to replace an 1850s station. Passenger rail service lasted until approximately 1959. The CTfastrak busway follows the previously rail banked right-of-way for the NY&NE Newington Secondary branch that joined the New Haven–Springfield mainline at the eponymous rail junction.

St. Mary Church is a Roman Catholic church, part of Annunciation Parish, located in Newington, Connecticut. St. Mary School closed in 2016. A new pastor, Fr Shawn Daly was appointed in 2016 to oversee the restructuring of the new Annunciation Parish, combining St. Mary Church with Holy Spirit Church in Newington.

The Gen. Martin Kellogg House, now more commonly known as the Kellog-Eddy House, is a historic house museum at 679 Willard Avenue in Newington, Connecticut. Built about 1808, it is a well-preserved example of Federal period residential architecture, and it was home to two of Newington's leading citizens. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 1, 1987.

W1AW is both the amateur radio call sign and the primary operating station of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). This station, which is commonly called the Hiram Percy Maxim Memorial Station, is located on the grounds of ARRL Headquarters in Newington, Connecticut. It was inspired by Maxim's 1AW callsign which predated the use of the AA-AL, K, N and W prefixes. The station routinely transmits bulletins and Morse code practice using common amateur radio frequencies. During a communications emergency bulletins are transmitted hourly in order to keep amateur radio operators informed.

Mill Pond Falls is a waterfall located in Newington, Connecticut. It is promoted by residents as the "smallest natural waterfall in the United States". The falls are located inside Mill Pond Park and is celebrated each fall during the Waterfall Festival.

The Connecticut Colony or Colony of Connecticut, originally known as the Connecticut River Colony or simply the River Colony, was an English colony in New England which later became Connecticut. It was organized on March 3, 1636 as a settlement for a Puritan congregation, and the English permanently gained control of the region in 1637 after struggles with the Dutch. The colony was later the scene of a bloody war between the colonists and Pequot Indians known as the Pequot War. Connecticut Colony played a significant role in the establishment of self-government in the New World with its refusal to surrender local authority to the Dominion of New England, an event known as the Charter Oak incident which occurred at Jeremy Adams' inn and tavern. Two other English settlements in Connecticut were merged into the Colony of Connecticut: Saybrook Colony in 1644 and New Haven Colony in 1662.

WPOP (1410 AM) is a commercial radio station in Hartford, Connecticut, broadcasting a news–talk–sports radio format. The station is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The studios and offices are located on Columbus Boulevard in Hartford. WPOP broadcasts with 5,000 watts. To protect other stations on AM 1410, it uses a directional antenna. The station's transmitter site is off Cedar Street in Newington, Connecticut. WPOP is also heard on the HD2 channel of co-owned WUCS (97.9 FM). A 220-watt FM translator simulcasts WPOP programming, W265EB at 100.9 MHz.

Cedar Street is a bus rapid transit station on the CTfastrak line, located near the intersection of Cedar Street (CT-175) and Fenn Road in Newington, Connecticut. It opened with the line on March 28, 2015. The station consists of two side platforms serving the busway, with two center passing lanes to allow express buses to pass buses stopped at the station. Along with East Street, it serves Central Connecticut State University. The New York and New England Railroad (and predecessor Hartford, Providence and Fishkill Railroad) served a station named Claytons at Cedar Street. It opened around 1872, supplementing and ultimately replacing Pratts station, and was closed sometime after 1915.An access road for the station, Myra Cohen Way, is named for longtime Newington councilwoman Myra Cohen.

Newington is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The town is part of the Capitol Planning Region. Located 8 miles (13 km) south of downtown Hartford, Newington is an older, mainly residential suburb located in Greater Hartford. As of 2023, the population is 30,527. The Connecticut Department of Transportation has its headquarters in Newington. Newington is home to Mill Pond Falls, near the center of town. It is celebrated each fall during the Waterfall Festival. The American Radio Relay League is headquartered in Newington, with a call sign of W1AW.

WRYM (840 AM; "Viva Radio") is a commercial radio station licensed to New Britain, Connecticut, and serving the Hartford metropolitan area. The station is owned by licensee Trignition Media, LLC. It simulcasts a Spanish-language contemporary hit radio format, including tropical music and reggaeton, with sister station WWCO 1240 AM in Waterbury. WRYM's studios are located in Newington, Connecticut, in front of its radio towers on Willard Avenue at Robbins Avenue. By day, WRYM is powered at 1,000 watts non-directional. But because 840 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A WHAS Louisville, WRYM must reduce power at night to 250 watts and use a directional antenna to avoid interference. Programming is also heard on 99-watt FM translator W297BT at 107.3 MHz in New Britain.
