William Merritt Chase Homestead is a historic home located at Shinnecock Hills in Suffolk County, New York.

Canoe Place was a station stop along the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road and first opened as a low cinder platform on the south east side of Shinnecock Canal in 1935. The station was in service for "Fisherman's Special" trains and was closed in 1953. "Fisherman's Special" trains operated from Penn Station to Montauk and provided an intermediate stop at Canoe Place for boats waiting to take anglers out on Peconic Bay. The station was located between Hampton Bays and Suffolk Downs Stations. The hamlet where it was located is now part of Hampton Bays, New York.

The Shinnecock Canal (also known as the Shinnecock and Peconic Canal) is a canal that cuts across the South Fork at Hampton Bays, New York. At 4,700 feet (1,400 m) long, it connects Great Peconic Bay and the north fork of Long Island with Shinnecock Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The canal opened to traffic in 1892.Although "the Hamptons" officially begins about 10 miles (16 km) west at Westhampton, New York, the Shinnecock Canal, which funnels traffic across bridges for the Sunrise Highway, Montauk Highway, and Long Island Rail Road, marks their beginning in popular imagination.

Shinnecock Hills was a rail station located along the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road and first opened around 1887 on the south side of the tracks, and closed in 1938.The name was revived for the former Southampton Campus station for the 2004 and 2018 U.S. Open at the nearby Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.The building was used as a U.S. Post Office and was a private residence as of 2013. In October 2013, it was dedicated as a Southampton Town Historic Landmark.

Shinnecock Hills is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 2,188 at the 2010 census. It is the home of a leading golf club, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. Ownership of the area has been the subject of a 2005 lawsuit filed by the Shinnecock Indian Nation. Shinnecock Hills is in the Town of Southampton.

Hampton Bays High School is a public high school located in Hampton Bays, a hamlet in the Town of Southampton in Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is the only high school operated by Hampton Bays Public Schools. The school was originally known as Hampton Bays Junior-Senior School when it opened in 1971, serving grades seven to twelve. In 1993, the school was renamed Hampton Bays Secondary School until 2008, when it reverted to a high school with the opening of a middle school in the district, with grades seven and eight moving to the new campus.

Sebonack Golf Club is a private golf course in Southampton, New York, located on the Great Peconic Bay on Long Island. Opened in 2006, the course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak and is adjacent to the National Golf Links of America and Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. The Clubhouse and guest cottages were designed by Hart Howerton.When it opened, Sebonack was noted as one of the priciest private clubs, with membership starting at half a million dollars. It is owned by Michael Pascucci.Sebonack was the host of the 2013 U.S. Women's Open, the first time the championship had been played on Long Island and the first in the greater New York City area since 1987.

Inbee Park won her second U.S. Women's Open title, four strokes ahead of runner-up I.K. Kim. It was Park's fourth major title and third consecutive in 2013. She is the first to win the opening three majors of a season since Babe Zaharias in 1950. The event was televised by ESPN and NBC Sports. The U.S. Women's Open is the oldest of the five current major championships and was the third of the 2013 season. Along with The Evian Championship, it had the largest purse in women's golf in 2013, at $3.25 million. It is one of 16 individual or team championships conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA).

National Golf Links of America is a prestigious links-style golf course in Southampton, New York, located on Long Island between Shinnecock Hills Golf Club and Peconic Bay. Though the course is noted for hosting the initial Walker Cup in 1922, which the United States won 8 and 4, it has never hosted a major men's championship. The Walker Cup was again held at the National in 2013. The private club has been called "America's snootiest golf course" due to its exclusive nature.

The 1922 Walker Cup, the first Walker Cup Match, was a team golf match played on August 28 and 29, 1922 at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, New York. The United States won 8 to 4. There had been heavy rain for several days before the event and course was very wet.

The 44th Walker Cup Match was played on September 7 and 8, 2013 at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, New York. The United States won 17 to 9.
