The Shinnecock Canal (also known as the Shinnecock and Peconic Canal) is a canal that cuts across the South Fork at Hampton Bays, New York. At 4,700 feet (1,400 m) long, it connects Great Peconic Bay and the north fork of Long Island with Shinnecock Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The canal opened to traffic in 1892.Although "the Hamptons" officially begins about 10 miles (16 km) west at Westhampton, New York, the Shinnecock Canal, which funnels traffic across bridges for the Sunrise Highway, Montauk Highway, and Long Island Rail Road, marks their beginning in popular imagination.

The Hamptons, part of the East End of Long Island, consist of the towns of Southampton and East Hampton, which together comprise the South Fork of Long Island, in Suffolk County, New York. Hampton Bays High School is a public high school located in Hampton Bays, a hamlet in the Town of Southampton in Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is the only high school operated by Hampton Bays Public Schools. The school was originally known as Hampton Bays Junior-Senior School when it opened in 1971, serving grades seven to twelve. In 1993, the school was renamed Hampton Bays Secondary School until 2008, when it reverted to a high school with the opening of a middle school in the district, with grades seven and eight moving to the new campus.

Shinnecock Light was a lighthouse on the south side of Long Island, New York. The name comes from the Shinnecock Indian Nation.The original red brick tower was built in 1858. It was 168 feet (51 m) tall and had a 1st order Fresnel lens, itself almost 12 feet (3.7 m) tall. If it were still standing it would be one of the ten tallest lighthouses in the US. It was discontinued in 1931 in favor of a skeleton tower and demolished by the Coast Guard in 1948. Some time later the Coast Guard built a communication tower on the site and moved the light to the height of 75 feet (23 m) on that tower.

Shinnecock Hills was a rail station located along the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road and first opened around 1887 on the south side of the tracks, and closed in 1938.The name was revived for the former Southampton Campus station for the 2004 and 2018 U.S. Open at the nearby Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.The building was used as a U.S. Post Office and was a private residence as of 2013. In October 2013, it was dedicated as a Southampton Town Historic Landmark.

It is the home of a leading golf club, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. Ownership of the area has been the subject of a 2005 lawsuit filed by the Shinnecock Indian Nation. The Ponquogue Bridge is a 2,812-foot-long (857 m) bridge over Shinnecock Bay in the hamlet of Hampton Bays, New York (within the town of Southampton). Maintained by the Department of Works for Suffolk County, the 29-span bridge carries two lanes of County Route 32 over the bay, connecting Hampton Bays to the eastern end of Westhampton Island. The bridge, which is made of concrete, has a 55-foot (17 m) vertical clearance above Shinnecock Bay. Constructed in 1986 at the cost of $14 million, the bridge replaced an older span over the bay, which was a 1,000-foot-long (300 m) wooden drawbridge built in 1930. The former Ponquogue Bridge currently serves as a fishing pier under the current span.

Sebonack Golf Club is a private golf course in Southampton, New York, located on the Great Peconic Bay on Long Island. Opened in 2006, the course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak and is adjacent to the National Golf Links of America and Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. The Clubhouse and guest cottages were designed by Hart Howerton.When it opened, Sebonack was noted as one of the priciest private clubs, with membership starting at half a million dollars. It is owned by Michael Pascucci.Sebonack was the host of the 2013 U.S. Women's Open, the first time the championship had been played on Long Island and the first in the greater New York City area since 1987.

It was first time the championship was played on Long Island and marked a return to the greater New York City area, which last hosted the U.S. Women's Open in 1987. Inbee Park won her second U.S. Women's Open title, four strokes ahead of runner-up I.K. Kim. It was Park's fourth major title and third consecutive in 2013. She is the first to win the opening three majors of a season since Babe Zaharias in 1950. The event was televised by ESPN and NBC Sports. The U.S. Women's Open is the oldest of the five current major championships and was the third of the 2013 season. Along with The Evian Championship, it had the largest purse in women's golf in 2013, at $3.25 million. It is one of 16 individual or team championships conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA).
