Leuphana University of Lüneburg

The Kunstraum of Lüneburg University is an institution for contemporary art working across different faculties of Lüneburg University. Since its renaming in 2007 the complete name is Kunstraum of Leuphana University Lüneburg.

The German Salt Museum (German: Deutsche Salzmuseum / Industriedenkmal Saline Lüneburg) in the German town of Lüneburg, on the site of the old production facilities of the Lüneburg Saltworks (Lüneburger Saline) when it was closed in 1980. In 1991, it won the Council of Europe Museum Prize. This industrial memorial which is based in the boiling house built in 1924 is one of the earliest of its type. It recalls the history of the oldest and, at one time, the greatest industrial operation in central Europe. The museum is divided into four exhibition areas: Salt in general (Salz allgemein) 20th century (20. Jahrhundert) 19th century (19. Jahrhundert) Middle Ages and Early modern period (Mittelalter and frühe Neuzeit) During the summer demonstrations take place in a replica of part of a medieval boiling hut are available on request. Members of the salt museum staff, dressed in historical costume, demonstrate the salt-boiling process using lead salt pans heated on wood fires.

The East Prussian Regional Museum (German: Ostpreußisches Landesmuseum) in Lüneburg, Lower Saxony in Germany, was established 1987 on the basis of the East Prussian Hunting Museum (German: Ostpreußischen Jagdmuseum) created by forester Hans Loeffke. It documents and commemorates the history, art and culture, but also the landscape and fauna of the former German province of East Prussia. Since spring 2009 the director of the museum is historian Dr. Joachim Mähnert.

Lüneburg was one of the four Regierungsbezirke of Lower Saxony, Germany, located in the north of the federal state between the three cities Bremen, Hamburg and Hanover. The region was created under royal Hanoverian rule in 1823 as Landdrostei Lüneburg (roughly: High Bailiwick of Lüneburg), renamed Regierungsbezirk (roughly: governorate) in 1885, when it was a subdivision of the Prussian province of Hanover. On 1 February 1978 the Lüneburg Region incorporated the neighbouring Stade Region. The governorate, like all the other Lower Saxon governorates, was dissolved in 2004. St. Michaelis is one of the main churches in Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. It was first an abbey church of the former monastery of Benedictines, built from 1376 in brick Gothic style. It became Lutheran during the Reformation. Johann Sebastian Bach was for two years a pupil at the school of St. Michaelis.

Häcklingen is a village in the municipality of Lüneburg, about 6 km from the town centre. Formerly an independent municipality, it is part of the town Lüneburg since 1974. It has an area of 4.997 hectares (12.35 acres) and is bordered to the west by Rettmer. To the north it is separated from the district of Bockelsberg by a small wood, to the east it is bordered by Uelzener Straße (the old B 4 highway). The next nearest village to the south is Melbeck. Chair of the council is Dr. Uwe Plath (CDU); he followed Susanne Pulsfort (CDU) who had been in the post for many years.

The Lüneburg Kalkberg (not to be confused with the Segeberger Kalkberg) is the cap rock of a salt dome in the western part of the German town of Lüneburg. The Kalkberg was a gypsum mine during the middle ages, but is today a Naturschutzgebiet (nature reserve) and a common meeting place for city residents.

Lüneburg Water Tower (German: Wasserturm Lüneburg) is a water tower in the southeastern part of the Lüneburg old town in Lower Saxony, Germany, built by the architect Franz Krüger (1873–1936), from designs by Richard Kampf. Its erection was initiated on 3 October 1905, and the tower was taken into use in November 1907. The water tower is 55 metres (180 ft) tall, and is the tallest building in the Lüneburg old town that is not a church. It stands between the considerably newer Nordlandhalle and the Johanneum, the latter now used as a school. The tower consists of a square base of 18 metres (59 ft) and a round portion which is walled up around a 500 cubic metres (18,000 cu ft) large water tank. The upper part is carried by 16 solid columns.

Hasenburger Mühlenbach (also: Hasenburgerbach) is a river of Lower Saxony, Germany. It flows into the Ilmenau near Lüneburg.

The Church of John the Baptist (Germ. St. Johannis or Johanniskirche) is the oldest Lutheran church in Lüneburg, Germany. It is located in the city centre. Lüneburg is on the European Route of Brick Gothic and the church is an example of this style.

St. Nicolai is a church and Lutheran parish in Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. It is one of three main churches in the town, all built in brick Gothic style. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, is a basilica with three naves, built from 1407 to 1440. It features a "star" rib vault that is unique in Northern Germany. When the Reformation was introduced in Lüneburg in 1530, the church became Lutheran. The high steeple was added in the 19th century.

Lüneburg (officially the Hanseatic City of Lüneburg, German: Hansestadt Lüneburg, pronounced [ˈhanzəʃtat ˈlyːnəbʊɐ̯k], Low German Lümborg, Latin Luneburgum or Lunaburgum, Old High German Luneburc, Old Saxon Hliuni, Polabian Glain), also called Lunenburg ( LEW-nən-burg) in English, is a town in the German state of Lower Saxony. It is located about 50 km (31 mi) southeast of another Hanseatic city, Hamburg, and belongs to that city's wider metropolitan region. The capital of the district which bears its name, it is home to roughly 77,000 people. Lüneburg's urban area, which includes the surrounding communities of Adendorf, Bardowick, Barendorf and Reppenstedt, has a population of around 103,000. Lüneburg has been allowed to use the title "Hansestadt" (Hanseatic Town) in its name since 2007, in recognition of its membership in the former Hanseatic League. Lüneburg is also home to Leuphana University.
