Lycée Molière de Rio de Janeiro (Portuguese: Liceu Molière) is a French international school in Laranjeiras, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The school serves maternelle (preschool) through the final year of lycée (senior high school), terminale. As of 2015 the school has over 750 students.

Laranjeiras (Portuguese pronunciation: [laɾɐ̃ˈʒejɾɐʃ], orange trees) is an upper-middle-class neighborhood located in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Primarily residential, It is one of the city's oldest neighborhoods, having been founded in the 17th century, with the construction of country houses in the valley located around the Carioca River, which bordered Corcovado Mountain. Because of this, the neighborhood was previously called Vale do Carioca, or Carioca Valley. While primarily residential, several important governmental, cultural, and sports institutions and schools make this a bustling neighborhood. Well known landmarks in Laranjeiras include the Guanabara Palace (seat of the state government of Rio de Janeiro), the Palácio Laranjeiras (official residence of the state's governor), and the Parque Guinle (Eduardo Guinle Park), as well as the headquarters and Laranjeiras Stadium of Fluminense Football Club, and Rio's branch of the Hebraica Social and Sports Club, and several others. Laranjeiras is adjacent to the Cosme Velho, Catete, Flamengo and Botafogo Neighborhoods.

The Carioca River (Portuguese: Rio Carioca) is a river in the state of Rio de Janeiro state in southeastern Brazil. It emerges from two springs on the southeast slopes of the Tijuca Massif in the protected Mata Atlantica forest of Tijuca National Park. The river then leaves Tijuca Forest into the Guararapes favela, then into the high-income Cosme Velho neighborhood, and then it is buried completely underground. The river reemerges in Flamengo Park to empty into Guanabara Bay at Flamengo Beach.Research by the Fundação SOS Mata Atlântica in 2015 confirmed that every river in the City of Rio de Janeiro is polluted, including the Carioca River. The river, once the primary source of fresh water in the city, is now one of its most polluted. Untreated sewage is the primary source of pollution of the Carioca; the 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) stretch of the river in Guararapes and Cosme Velho are a great sources of unregulated sewage. The water of the Carioca carries pollutants that cause diarrhea, hepatitis, and leptospirosis. The river has a single wastewater treatment facility near its mouth before emptying into Guanabara Bay. It was installed by the State of Rio de Janeiro in 2001. Biochemical evaluation of the river began in 1991 and water quality decreases annually.

Estádio Manoel Schwartz, usually known as Estádio das Laranjeiras, is a historic football stadium in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. The stadium holds 2,000 spectators. It was built in 1905 and is one of the oldest stadiums in Brazil. The stadium is owned by Fluminense Football Club.

Tavares Bastos is a favela in the Catete neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is named after the Brazilian politician Aureliano Cândido Tavares Bastos. The main access road is the Rua Tavares Bastos. Many films have been filmed in the Tavares Bastos, including Elite Squad, Last Stop 174 and The Incredible Hulk. The Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams music video "Beautiful" was also filmed in the favela. The favela used to be the only major city slum where drug trafficking or activities of militias were curtailed due to the presence of the headquarters of the Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais, the special police unit of the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro State. This was described in the factual book Elite da Tropa, which was made into the film Elite Squad.

The Guanabara Palace (Portuguese: Palácio Guanabara, formerly known as Paço Isabel) is located on Pinheiro Machado Street (formerly Guanabara Street), in the Laranjeiras neighborhood (bairro), in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro, capital of the homonymous state. It is the official seat of the government of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The Guanabara Palace should not be confused with Laranjeiras Palace, located in the same neighborhood (at Paulo Cesar Andrade Street, 407), which is the official residence of the Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

Catete is a neighborhood in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It has strong commerce, with the majority of population being middle class.

Santa Teresa (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈsɐ̃tɐ teˈɾezɐ]) is the name of a neighborhood in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is located on top of the Santa Teresa hill, by the centre of Rio, and is famous for its winding, narrow streets which are a favourite spot for artists and tourists. The neighborhood originated around the Santa Teresa Convent, built in the 1750s on the Desterro hill. At the end of the 19th and early 20th century it was an upper class borough, as testified by its many opulent villas. Santa Teresa ceased being an upper-class neighbourhood long ago, but it has been revived as a fashionable hotspot. It is home to several artists and art studios and galleries. The offer of restaurants and bars is also varied. One of Santa Teresa's most illustrious inhabitants was Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maia, an art collector who lived in his Chácara do Céu mansion in the neighborhood. The estate was turned into a museum (Museu da Chácara do Céu) and its exhibits include works by Matisse, Jean Metzinger, Eliseu Visconti, Di Cavalcanti, and Candido Portinari. It is located near the cultural center Parque das Ruínas. In 2006, some paintings were stolen, and have not yet been recovered.Another museum is the Museu do Bonde, which tells the history of the famous Santa Teresa Tram since its historic origins. A ride on the tram is a popular attraction among tourists. It sports crossing the old Carioca Aqueduct, going through picturesque streets of the Santa Teresa neighbourhood and wonderful views of the city downhill.

Largo do Machado is a square located on the border of the Catete, Flamengo and Laranjeiras neighborhoods in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Bairro de Fátima is a region of Rio de Janeiro, but not officially recognized as a neighborhood.

Cosme Velho is a neighborhood in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, adjacent to Laranjeiras. Its main street is Rua Cosme Velho, an extension of Rua das Laranjeiras. Cosme Velho is frequently visited by tourists.The Estação de Ferro do Corcovado (terminus of the Corcovado Rack Railway) is located here. Trains carry passengers from there to the summit of Corcovado Mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer. The neighbourhood also includes the picturesque Largo do Boticário, which consists of a small square enclosed by several neocolonial style houses, built in the 1920s. The houses were constructed using materials from much older buildings in the city's Centro district which had been demolished. There are two houses from the first half of the 19th century at the entrance to the square. The writer Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis lived in a house at 18 Rua Cosme Velho from 1883 until his death in 1908. Machado acquired the nickname "Bruxo do Cosme Velho" ("Wizard of Cosme Velho"), supposedly because he was in the habit of burning his discarded documents in a cauldron. The house has since been demolished and an apartment block has been built in its place.
