Derbyshire Dales Narrow Gauge Railway

Parkside railway station was the only station on the Derbyshire Dales Narrow Gauge Railway. Derbyshire Dales Narrow Gauge Railway was a short narrow-gauge railway operating at Rowsley South, and operated ex-industrial diesels and carriages similar to the Golden Valley light railway at the Midland Railway Centre.

Rowsley South railway station lies approximately a mile short of Rowsley village, the location of the settlement's previous stations. This makes Rowsley South the third station to be built in the area, constructed as it was by Peak Rail volunteers in the latter part of the 1990s. Opened to passenger services in 1997, the station was for a time referred to as 'Northwood', which is the part of Rowsley settlement that is near to the terminus. This association can still be observed through the name of the café that stands on the station, which is known as the Northwood Buffet.

Derbyshire ( DAR-bee-sheer, -⁠shər, -⁠ih) is a ceremonial and non-metropolitan county in the East Midlands, England. The county is the westernmost in the East Midlands. It covers much of the Peak District National Park, the southern end of the Pennine range of hills and part of the National Forest. It is bordered by Greater Manchester to the north-west, West Yorkshire to the north, South Yorkshire to the north-east, Nottinghamshire to the east, Leicestershire to the south-east, Staffordshire to the west and south-west, and Cheshire to the west. The county's largest settlement and only city, Derby, is now administered as a unitary authority. The rest of Derbyshire remains in the Derbyshire County Council local authority area. Derbyshire was historically larger, once extending to cover some southern suburbs of Sheffield such as Mosborough, Owlthorpe, Jordanthorpe, Totley, Dore and Abbeydale.Kinder Scout, at 636 m (2,087 ft), is the highest point and Trent Meadows, where the River Trent leaves Derbyshire, the lowest at 27 m (89 ft).: 1  The north–south River Derwent is the longest river at 66 mi (106 km). In 2003, the Ordnance Survey named Church Flatts Farm at Coton in the Elms, near Swadlincote, as Britain's furthest point from the sea.

Stancliffe Hall is a grade II Listed building on Whitworth Road in the settlement of Darley Dale, near Matlock, Derbyshire.

Northwood and Tinkersley is a civil parish within the Derbyshire Dales district, in the county of Derbyshire, England. Named for its main settlements, with a mix of rural and built up areas, it had a population of 665 residents in 2011. The parish is 126 miles (203 km) north west of London, 18 miles (29 km) north west of the county city of Derby, and 3+1⁄2 miles (5.6 km) north west of the nearest market town of Matlock. Northwood and Tinkersley is directly adjacent to the Peak District national park to the west, and shares a border with the parishes of Darley Dale, Rowsley and Stanton.

The River Wye is a limestone river in the Peak District of Derbyshire, England. It is 22 miles long (widely but incorrectly attributed as 15 miles/24 km, which refers to the section within the National Park), and is one of the major tributaries of the River Derwent, which flows into the River Trent, and ultimately into the Humber and the North Sea. The river rises just west of Buxton, on Axe Edge Moor. Part of the flow passes underground through Poole's Cavern before rising at Wye Head, and flowing through the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton. It then flows east through the dales of the Wye Valley, along a route roughly followed by the A6 road. It enters the Peak District, flows just south of Tideswell, then through Ashford in the Water and Bakewell, and south of Haddon Hall, before meeting the River Derwent at Rowsley. The main tributary of the river is the River Lathkill, which enters approximately one mile from its mouth. The River Wye is one of Derbyshire's best-known rivers and is popular with anglers because of the large numbers of wild brown, rainbow trout and grayling it contains. The alkalinity of the Wye provides a rich source of nutrients that leads to an abundance of insects, invertebrates and other wildlife. This ensures that the trout and grayling grow quickly on a diet of freshwater shrimp, caddisfly (also known as sedge-flies) and mayfly (to name but a few of the foods available). Some of the largest populations of water voles in Britain can also be found along the River Wye. It is possible to walk alongside much of the length of the river, mostly following a former railway line, part of which is now the Monsal Trail and provides views of the river. In Monsal Dale the former railway line emerges from a tunnel at Monsal Head, over a viaduct high above the river below. When this structure was built John Ruskin was enraged, and spoke of the Gods being banished by a scheme intended to convey "every Buxton fool to Bakewell in half an hour" and vice versa, "and you call this lucrative exchange—you fools everywhere". The railway is now closed, but the viaduct is itself a listed structure.

St Helen's Church, Darley Dale is a Grade II* listed parish church in the Church of England in Darley Dale, Derbyshire.

Darley Dale, also known simply as Darley, is a town and civil parish in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, England, with a population of 5,413. It lies north of Matlock, on the River Derwent and the A6 road. The town forms part of a built up area with both Matlock and Rowsley.

Rowsley () is a village on the A6 road in the English county of Derbyshire. The population as at the 2011 census was 507.It is at the point where the River Wye flows into the River Derwent and prospered from mills on both. The border of the Peak District National Park runs through the village west of the River Wye and immediately to the north of Chatsworth Road. The Peak District Boundary Walk goes through the village.

The original Rowsley railway station was opened in 1849 by the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway to serve the village of Rowsley in Derbyshire.

The Reform Tower, also known as the Earl Grey Tower in Stanton Moor, Derbyshire, is a monument to the 1832 Reform Act. It was built around 1833 by the Thornhill family to commemorate Earl Grey, the Whig Prime Minister who supported the 'Act to amend the representation of the people in England and Wales'. There is speculation that William Pole Thornhill, with his 'strong dedication to reform', built the tower celebrating the passing of the Reform Act so that it was visible from the property of the 5th Duke of Rutland, a Tory. The tower is made of blocks of gritstone. A doorway on the east face is now bricked in, but previously a staircase allowed visitors to see the view from the roof of the tower. A niche above the doorway originally had a plaque with a coronet and 'Earl Grey 1832'. It was first listed as a Grade II listed building in July 1967.
