Ambattur taluk

Ambattur is a state assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu, India that was newly formed after constituency delimitation. Located in Chennai district, it consists of a portion of Ambattur taluk and part of Chennai corporation. It is included in the Sriperumbudur parliamentary constituency.

Pudur is a locality in Chennai, Ambattur (ward 80 of Chennai corporation), which is a large neighbourhood in Chennai City.

Ambattur is located in northwestern part of Chennai City, in Ambattur taluk of the Chennai District, surrounded by Avadi, Anna Nagar, Padi, Mogappair, Kallikuppam, Surapet, Korattur, Ayappakkam, Athipet and Thiruverkadu. It covers an area of 45 km2 (17 sq mi). The neighbourhood is served by Ambattur railway station of the Chennai Suburban Railway. Ambattur has its origins in a village of the same name which can be located at present as areas opposite to Ambattur telephone exchange. Ambattur was a village with large extents of agricultural farm lands irrigated by the once-sprawling Ambattur Lake. In 2011, the neighbourhood had a population 466,205.

Pattaravakkam is a small sub-urban locality in the north-west part of Chennai, Kanchipuram district, India. It comes under the Ambattur municipality and situated along the Chennai-Mumbai railway. In 2011, the population of Pattaravakkam was 1,441.Many of the residents are suburban commuters and work in one of major industrial complexes of North Chennai. It also houses all the textile industry. The neighbourhood is served by Pattaravakkam railway station of the Chennai Suburban Railway.located around 3 km away from ambattur bus stand and railway station. It harbour lot of small scale industries like paints, dyes, chemical pharmaceutical, engineering industries. Good road connects to city. Large scale of woman are employed in these industries.

Pattaravakkam railway station is one of the railway stations of the Chennai Central–Arakkonam section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. Located about 14 km from Chennai Central railway station, the station serves the neighbourhoods of Pattaravakkam and Ambattur Industrial Estate and other smaller suburbs such as Karukku, Kallikuppam, and Menambedu. It has an elevation of 16.01 m above sea level. It is a suburb of Chennai City.

Mel Ayanambakkam Lake is one of the clean water lake in Chennai district's locality Mel Ayanambakkam near Thiruverkadu. It is a lake spread over 210 acres (85 ha). This lake is also an important water source for the metropolitan areas of Chennai city.

Sir Ramaswami Mudaliar Higher Secondary School is a government-aided higher secondary school in Ambattur. This school was established to preserve the memory of Sir Arcot Ramaswami Mudaliar, who was closely associated with the birth and growth of Tube Investments of India as its founder, chairman and later as the first president of the company. Hence the first school of the AMM Charities Trust started in 1958 was named after him. The initial infrastructure of the school was created at a cost of Rs. 60 lakhs on a 13-acre plot in Ambattur. The school was later upgraded into a co-educational higher secondary school in 1978. Today the school has a strength of about 2,044 pupils including 87 qualified teachers and other staff members. Ambattur aeri, or Ambattur lake, is a rain-fed reservoir which reaches top levels during the monsoon seasons. In November 2008, incessant monsoon rain filled the lake and encroachments on the north and south banks of the lake were demolished. It also caters to the drinking water needs of the Chennai city after Poondi and Chembarambakkam Lake. Ambattur aeri is one of a chain of three water bodies, including the Korattur aeri and the Madhavaram aeri, where surplus water from one is transported to another.

Ambattur Industrial Estate is an specially designated industrial area in the Chennai neighbourhood of Ambattur. Established in 1964 as the second industrial estate of the city, the industrial estate stretches across 1,300 acres and is home to over 1,500 small and medium enterprises, specialising largely in automobile components, but also in garments and engineering products. It is one of about ten industrial estates developed by the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation in and around the city.

Tiruvalithayam Tiruvallesvarar Temple is a temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva, located at Padi, a north-western neighbourhood of Chennai, India. Shiva is worshiped as Tiruvalleswarar, and is represented by the lingam and his consort Parvati is depicted as Jagadambiga. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil poet saints known as the nayanars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. This temple is associated with sage Bharadwaja, who worshipped the presiding deity in the form of a sparrow, giving the name Thiruvalithayam to the temple. There are many inscriptions associated with the temple indicating contributions from Cholas. The oldest parts of the present masonry structure were built during the Chola dynasty during the 11th century, while later expansions, are attributed to later periods. The temple houses a three-tiered gateway tower known as gopuram. The temple has numerous shrines, with those of Tiruvalleswarar and Jagadambiga being the most prominent. The temple complex houses many halls and two precincts. The temple has four daily rituals at various times from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and five yearly festivals on its calendar. The Brahmotsavam during the Tamil month of Chittirai is the most prominent festival celebrated in the temple. The temple is now maintained and administered by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
