Bad River (Michigan)

Saginaw County, officially the County of Saginaw, is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 190,124. The county seat is Saginaw. The county was created by September 10, 1822, and was fully organized on February 9, 1835. The etymology of the county's name is uncertain. It may be derived from Sace-nong or Sak-e-nong (English: Sauk land), as the Sauk (French: Sac) tribe is believed by some to have once lived there. A more likely possibility is that it comes from Ojibwe words meaning "place of the outlet" –sag (English: an opening) and ong (English: place of). See List of Michigan county name etymologies. Saginaw County comprises the Saginaw, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Saginaw-Midland-Bay City Combined Statistical Area, the 5th largest metropolitan area in Michigan.

James Township is a civil township of Saginaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,023 at the 2010 Census.

Swan Creek Township is a civil township of Saginaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,456 at the 2010 Census.

St. Charles is a village in Saginaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The village is located in the northwest corner of St. Charles Township with portions of the village located within Brant and Swan Creek townships. The population was 2,054 at the 2010 census.

The Mahoney Site, designated 20SA193, is an archaeological site located near Bridgeport, Michigan, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.The site was a Woodland period fall and winter camp.In 1963, human remains representing at least two individuals were removed from site by archaeologists from the University of Michigan Museum of Anthropological Archaeology.

St. Charles Community Schools (STCCS) is a school district headquartered in St. Charles, Michigan. It is a part of the Saginaw Intermediate School District and serves the St. Charles area, including the village of St. Charles, the northern portions of Brant and St. Charles townships, and the southern portions of Fremont and Swan Creek townships. Its schools include St. Charles Elementary School, Anna M. Thurston Middle School, and St. Charles Community High School.

The Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational is a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour that is played in Michigan. A new event in 2019, it is held at Midland Country Club in Midland, Michigan. It is a team event, similar to the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the PGA Tour, with alternate shot (foursome) in the first and third rounds and better ball (fourball) for the second and fourth rounds. Dow Chemical Company is the title sponsor.The 2020 edition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the 2021 edition, the purse was increased to $2.3 million, with the first-place team splitting $559,000. For 2022, the purse was increased to $2.5 million, with the first-place team splitting $603,172.In 2023, the 70 two-woman teams are set featuring foursomes and fourballs in alternating days, including a 36-hole cut, to determine the winning team. The purse was increased to $2.7 million, with the first-place team splitting $656,230.

Misteguay Creek is a tributary of the Flint River, 38.4 miles (61.8 km) long, on the central Lower Peninsula of Michigan in the United States. The stream drains an area of 174.4 square miles (452 km2) in predominantly agricultural areas of the Flint/Tri-Cities region. Via the Flint and Shiawassee rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Saginaw River, which flows to Saginaw Bay of Lake Huron. Via Lake Huron and the Great Lakes system, it is part of the larger watershed of the St. Lawrence River. Misteguay Creek begins in Clayton Township in Genesee County, approximately 1.9 miles (3.1 km) southeast of the village of Lennon and 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west of the city of Swartz Creek. It flows initially northwestward into Shiawassee County, then generally northward, through Venice and Hazelton townships and the village of New Lothrop in Shiawassee County; and Maple Grove, Albee, and Spaulding townships in Saginaw County. It flows into the Flint River in Spaulding Township, approximately 6.3 miles (10.1 km) east of the village of St. Charles. Several sections of the creek's course have been channelized.

Hartley Outdoor Education Center is a member of the Saginaw Intermediate School District located 1.5 miles (2.4 km) northwest of St. Charles, Michigan in Saginaw County. Since its opening in 1975, Hartley's 300 acres (1.2 km2) have entertained and educated approximately 250,000 students and houses about 4,000 students each year. It is designed to educate elementary and middle school students, but is not limited to this and can teach high school students as well. As both a camp and a school, many students learn topics they normally wouldn't learn inside a classroom, by going through cabins, coal mines, forests, wetlands, meadows and ponds to learn about topics such as survival, pioneer living, or confidence, enjoying themselves in the process.

The Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge is a 9,870.35 acres (39.9439 km2) National Wildlife Refuge in Saginaw County managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. It is located in the central portion of the lower peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan, approximately 25 miles (40 km) south of the Saginaw Bay in Lake Huron and five miles (8 km) south of the city of Saginaw in the county's Spaulding and James townships. It was established in 1953 to provide habitat for migratory waterfowl. Known locally as the Shiawassee Flats, the refuge lies in the Saginaw Bay watershed, historically one of the largest and most productive wetland ecosystems in Michigan. The Bad, Flint, and Cass Rivers flow into the Shiawassee River in the refuge. Here also the Shiawassee converges with the Tittabawassee River to form the Saginaw River.

Swan Valley School District is a school district headquartered in Saginaw, Michigan. It is a part of the Saginaw Intermediate School District and serves 20 square miles (52 km2) including James Township, northeastern Swan Creek Township, eastern Thomas Township. Its schools include Robert B. Havens Elementary School, Shields Elementary School, Swan Valley Middle School, and Swan Valley High School.
