Saginaw County, officially the County of Saginaw, is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 190,124. The county seat is Saginaw. The county was created by September 10, 1822, and was fully organized on February 9, 1835. The etymology of the county's name is uncertain. It may be derived from Sace-nong or Sak-e-nong (English: Sauk land), as the Sauk (French: Sac) tribe is believed by some to have once lived there. A more likely possibility is that it comes from Ojibwe words meaning "place of the outlet" –sag (English: an opening) and ong (English: place of). See List of Michigan county name etymologies. Saginaw County comprises the Saginaw, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Saginaw-Midland-Bay City Combined Statistical Area, the 5th largest metropolitan area in Michigan.

The Mower Road – Cole Drain Bridge is a bridge carrying Mower Road over the Cole Drain in Spaulding Township, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It is likely the longest straight chord through girder still extant on public roads.

The Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge is a 9,870.35 acres (39.9439 km2) National Wildlife Refuge in Saginaw County managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. It is located in the central portion of the lower peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan, approximately 25 miles (40 km) south of the Saginaw Bay in Lake Huron and five miles (8 km) south of the city of Saginaw in the county's Spaulding and James townships. It was established in 1953 to provide habitat for migratory waterfowl. Known locally as the Shiawassee Flats, the refuge lies in the Saginaw Bay watershed, historically one of the largest and most productive wetland ecosystems in Michigan. The Bad, Flint, and Cass Rivers flow into the Shiawassee River in the refuge. Here also the Shiawassee converges with the Tittabawassee River to form the Saginaw River.

James Township is a civil township of Saginaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,023 at the 2010 Census.

Albee Township is a civil township of Saginaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the township population was 2,046. Albee Township was established in 1863.

Spaulding Township is a civil township of Saginaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,153 at the 2010 Census.

The Bad River is a 44.3-mile-long (71.3 km) river in Michigan. It rises in Newark Township near the city of Ithaca in Gratiot County and flows in a north-easterly direction into Saginaw County, and through the village of St. Charles, before emptying into the Shiawassee River within the bounds of the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge.The river and its tributaries have a total combined length of 175 miles (282 km); most of it channelized. Land use within the surrounding watershed is 86.5 percent agricultural; as a result, the river system has been adversely impacted by sedimentation.The name "Bad River" comes from the Chippewa Indians who called the river "maw-tchi-sebe" or quite literally, "bad river," because of how difficult it was for them to navigate it.

The Fosters Site, designated 20SA74, is an archaeological site located near Bridgeport, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.Fosters Site, located beside the Flint River, is the site of a village dating from the Late Woodland period. The village was likely seasonally occupied in the fall and winter. It was excavated in 1967 by researchers from the University of Michigan Museum of Archaeology, who found ceramic shards, triangular weapon points, and fish and plant remains.

The Center Road – Tittabawassee River Bridge was a bridge carrying Center Road over the Tittabawassee River in James Township, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The Schultz site (designate 20SA2) and the Green Point Site (designated 20SA1) are two adjacent archaeological sites located near the confluence of the Tittabawassee River and Shiawassee River in Spaulding Township, Michigan. the two sites were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Tittabawassee River ( TIH-tə-bə-WAH-see) flows in a generally southeasterly direction through the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. The river begins at Secord Lake in Clement Township, at the confluence of the East Branch and the Middle Branch. From there it flows through Gladwin, Midland and Saginaw counties where, as a major tributary of the Saginaw River, it flows into it at Saginaw. Its tributaries include the Chippewa, Pine, Molasses, Sugar, and Tobacco rivers. Significant communities on or near the Tittabawassee River include Saginaw, Midland, and Sanford. At Edenville, the river was impounded by the hydroelectric Edenville Dam to create Wixom Lake. It was also impounded by a hydroelectric dam in Sanford to create Sanford Lake prior to the dam failures and resulting flooding on May 19, 2020. In Saginaw County, the river flows through Tittabawassee Township, which is named for the river and contains the unincorporated community of Freeland. The main river is 72.4 miles (116.5 km) long and drains an area of 2,471 square miles (6,400 km2).

The Shiawassee River ( shy-ə-WAH-see) in the U.S. state of Michigan drains an area of 1,201 square miles (3,110 km2) within Oakland, Genesee, Livingston, Shiawassee, Midland and Saginaw counties. It flows in a generally northerly direction for approximately 110 miles (180 km) from its source to its confluence with the Tittabawassee River creating the Saginaw River, which drains into Saginaw Bay of Lake Huron.The name is derived from the Chippewa "shia-was-see" meaning "the river straight ahead."
