Almaden Valley (Spanish: Valle de Almadén), commonly known simply as Almaden (Spanish: Almadén), is a valley and neighborhood of San Jose, California, located in South San Jose. It is nestled between the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west and the Santa Teresa Hills to the east. Almaden, named after the ancient Spanish mining town of Almadén, traces its history back to the 1820s, when Mexican miners discovered mercury deposits on Rancho Los Capitancillos, which later led to the establishment of the New Almaden mines. Almaden Valley, known for its abundant parkland, is one of the most expensive neighborhoods to live in San Jose and is consistently ranked as one of the most expensive areas in the country.

South San Jose is the southern region of San Jose, California. The name "South Side" refers to an area bounded roughly by Hillsdale Avenue and Capitol Expressway to the North, Camden Avenue to the West, Highway 101 and Hellyer Avenue on the east, the border with the city of Morgan Hill towards the south, and Los Gatos, to the west.The area is expansive with a mix of businesses, green space, and parks. Two business districts, urban villages and a highly educated workforce make the neighborhood attractive to workers and companies.

Santa Teresa High School (also referred to as STHS) is a public high school located in the suburban Santa Teresa neighborhood of southern San Jose, California. The school is a member of the East Side Union High School District and serves students from grades 9 through 12. The average student enrollment is 2,300 students, with an average ratio of 25 students for every teacher.

KMTG (89.3 FM) is a radio station broadcasting student choice format. Licensed to San Jose, California, United States, the station serves the San Jose area. The station is currently owned by San Jose Unified School District. and operated at Pioneer High School by Pioneer High School students. It was formerly known as KLEL started by Joe LoBue who instructed radio as a class and operated the station from Leland High School. The station is completely student-run, educational, and non-profit. The students doing shows on the station do so as part of formal classes in broadcasting and under the supervision of the station manager. The station manager, Steve Dini, a teacher at the high school and himself a radio personality, is still active in the broadcasting field doing television commercials and writing for local radio and TV. The format of the station is varied depending on the student shows that have been properly proposed and implemented. The station operates 24 hours a day. When the station is not featuring student shows, it continues to broadcast a mix of today's and yesterday's top music using computer automation. One of the student shows is titled "Teal Talk", a sports radio show that covers the San Jose Sharks. Recently, the Teal Talk anchors interviewed Dan Rusanowsky, the San Jose Sharks radio play-by-play announcer.

New Almaden, known in Spanish as Nueva Almadén, is a historic community and former mercury mine in the Capitancillos Hills of San Jose, California, located at the southwestern point of Almaden Valley in South San Jose. New Almaden is divided into two parts: the mines and much of their immediate surroundings, including historic ghost town settlements in the Capintancillas, which together form the Almaden Quicksilver County Park, and the largely residential historic district surrounding the Casa Grande. Discovered in the 1820s by Mexican settlers, New Almaden mines are the oldest mines in California and were one of the most productive mercury mines in the country. Long before the arrival of the Spanish, Mexicans, and Americans, the indigenous Ohlone people had long utilized the area for its cinnabar, which they used in paint production.

Snell is a light rail station operated by Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). The station is served by the Blue Line of the VTA Light Rail system. It was part of the original Guadalupe Line, the first segment of light rail from Santa Teresa to Tasman. Snell station is located in the median of State Route 85, near Snell Avenue in the southern part of San Jose, California.

Blossom Hill is a light rail station operated by Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). The station is served by the Blue Line of the VTA Light Rail system. Blossom Hill station is located in the median of State Route 85, just north of Blossom Hill Road in San Jose, California. It was part of the original Guadalupe Line, the first segment of light rail from Santa Teresa to Tasman.

Guadalupe Reservoir is a reservoir in Santa Clara County, California, United States, about 5 miles (8 km) south of the city of San Jose, California. It is at an elevation of 614 feet (187 m). It has a surface area of 74 acres (300,000 m2) and a capacity of 3,415 acre-feet (4,212,000 m3). The reservoir is located along Hicks Road on Guadalupe Creek, a tributary of the Guadalupe River. The Guadalupe River was named Rio de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe on March 30, 1776, by the de Anza expedition, in honor of the Mexican saint who was the principal patron saint of the expedition. Guadalupe dam and reservoir, constructed in 1935, is one of the six original systems approved for construction by voters in 1934. The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has developed a safe eating advisory for the reservoir, stating no one should eat any fish caught there.

Almaden Quicksilver County Park is a 4,163 acres (17 km²) park that includes the grounds of former mercury ("quicksilver") mines adjacent to south San Jose, California, USA. The park's elevation varies greatly: the most used entrances (on the east side of the park) are less than 600 feet (183 m) above sea level, while the highest point in the park is over 1,700 feet (518 m) above sea level. The park is owned by the County of Santa Clara and managed by the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department. Its grounds include the Guadalupe Reservoir and features sweeping views of San Jose. Adjacent to the park is the Almaden Reservoir. The Casa Grande Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum is located in nearby New Almaden. The park is named after the New Almaden Quicksilver Mines, which were named after the mercury mine in (old) Almadén, Spain, and produced mercury that was used to process ore during the Gold Rush.

Almaden was a light rail station on the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light rail system. This station was the southern terminus of VTA's Ohlone/Chynoweth–Almaden line, popularly known as the Almaden Shuttle.

The Santa Teresa Hills are a range of mountains in Santa Clara County, California, located primarily in the city of San Jose. They separate the San Jose neighborhoods of Almaden Valley to the west and Santa Teresa to the east.

Rancho Los Capitancillos was a 3,360-acre (13.6 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Santa Clara County, California given in 1842 by Governor Juan B. Alvarado to Justo Larios. Los Capitancillos means the Little Captains in Spanish. The grant was south of present-day San Jose and was bounded on the south by José de los Reyes Berreyesa's Rancho San Vicente.
