Shingle Springs (formerly, Shingle Spring and Shingle) is a census-designated place (CDP) in El Dorado County, California, United States. The population was 4,432 at the 2010 census, up from 2,643 at the 2000 census. It is located about 40 miles (64 km) from Sacramento in the Gold Country foothills and sits directly on Highway 50. The towns of Coloma and Placerville are less than 15 miles (24 km) away. Shingle Springs is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, a federally recognized tribe of Maidu and Miwok people, are headquartered in Shingle Springs.

Coloma Road in Rescue, California is a historical road in Contra Costa County. A Historical Landmark was built at 4222 Green Valley Road in Rescue, California at the Rescue Junction General Store. The old Coloma Road opened in 1847, it ran from Sutter's Fort to the city of Coloma. James W. Marshall traveled the road to tell of his gold find to Captain John A. Sutter. During the 49ers miners gold rush thousands of miners traveled the road heading out to look for gold and claims. California's first stage line, California Stage Company, traveled the road starting in 1849, the line was founded by James E. Birch. There is a second Coloma Road Historical Landmark Marker, No. 748. Logtown, also known as Empire City, is a former mining town located on California State Route 49 about 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of Placerville in El Dorado County, California. It first appeared in the US census in 1850, however the exact date of the town's founding is unclear. The town would become a small resting point mentioned in passing by most in El Dorado county.

The Community Observatory is a public outreach observatory located in Placerville, California, on the campus of the El Dorado Learning Center. The Community Observatory was established in 2006 through the work of the Rotarians of Cameron Park as free family-friendly park for the community. It is operated by a partnership of a team of volunteers, Folsom Lake College, the El Dorado County Office of Education and the Rotarians of Cameron Park. In 2011, the Rotarians of Cameron Park installed the Art Cort Sky Theater as a place for visitors to rest and gaze at the stars. There volunteers are often found providing tours of the constellations. As of 2017, two telescopes are permanently mounted in the observatory: one 17-inch Planewave CDK and one 14-inch Celestron SCT, modified to accommodate a Hyperstar optic system fitted with an Atik Infinity Camera. As of 2017, the Community Observatory had received over 80,000 visitors. Hours can be found through its website, its Facebook page,.Acting as docents are volunteers with an interest in astronomy who donate their time and knowledge to make a visit to the observatory educational. They can provide information about celestial objects, the observatory facility, and telescopes.

The population was 19,171 in the 2020 census, up from 18,228 in 2010. Cameron Park is a community located in the Northern California Gold Country of the Sierra Nevada foothills, approximately 30 miles (50 km) east of Sacramento and 70 miles (110 km) west of South Lake Tahoe.

Jayhawk (formerly, Jay Hawk) was a former settlement in El Dorado County, California. It was located 6.5 miles (10 km) southwest of Coloma, at an elevation of 1161 feet (354 m).A post office operated at Jay Hawk from 1860 to 1865.Jayhawk was named for settlers from Missouri ("Jayhawks") who established the town. By 1883 Jayhawk was defunct. The Jayhawk Cemetery remains today.
