Pleasant Grove House Pony Express Station is a historical building in Rescue, California built in 1850. The site of the Pleasant Grove House Pony Express Station is a California Historical Landmark No. 703. The historical building was built to house California Gold Rush 49 miners traveling to find gold and stake a claim. The Pleasant Grove House Pony Express Station in El Dorado County, California. Pine Hill Ecological Reserve is a nature reserve of 403 acres (1.63 km2) located due east of Folsom Lake in the Sierra Nevada foothills, in El Dorado County, California. The reserve was established in 1979, and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The Pine Hill Ecological Reserve is one unit of the much larger Pine Hill Preserve system that consists of five separate units of varying size that total more than 4,000 acres (16 km2) and protects eight rare plants and their gabbro soil habitat. It is jointly managed by several local, state and federal agencies through a Cooperative Management Agreement.

The old Coloma Road opened in 1847, it ran from Sutter's Fort to the city of Coloma. James W. Marshall traveled the road to tell of his gold find to Captain John A. Sutter. During the 49ers miners gold rush thousands of miners traveled the road heading out to look for gold and claims. California's first stage line, California Stage Company, traveled the road starting in 1849, the line was founded by James E. Birch. There is a second Coloma Road Historical Landmark Marker, No. 748. The population was 4,432 at the 2010 census, up from 2,643 at the 2000 census. It is located about 40 miles (64 km) from Sacramento in the Gold Country foothills and sits directly on Highway 50. The towns of Coloma and Placerville are less than 15 miles (24 km) away. Shingle Springs is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, a federally recognized tribe of Maidu and Miwok people, are headquartered in Shingle Springs.

Jayhawk (formerly, Jay Hawk) was a former settlement in El Dorado County, California. It was located 6.5 miles (10 km) southwest of Coloma, at an elevation of 1161 feet (354 m).A post office operated at Jay Hawk from 1860 to 1865.Jayhawk was named for settlers from Missouri ("Jayhawks") who established the town. By 1883 Jayhawk was defunct. The Jayhawk Cemetery remains today.

It is located 14 miles (23 km) west-southwest of Placerville, at an elevation of 676 feet (206 m).Clarksville was established during the California gold rush and at one point had over a thousand residents and several businesses. By 1931 only twenty residents remained. Little remains today, but the Clarksville Heritage Society preserves the town's history.A post office operated at Clarksville from 1855 to 1924 and from 1927 to 1934.

Mormon Tavern is a former hotel, saloon and stage stop in El Dorado County, California. It was located on the emigrant road 0.5 miles (0.80 km) west of Clarksville.The place was founded in 1848 or 49 by a mormon named Morgan. It served as a stop on the Pony Express from 1860 to 1861. There is no certain account of how the place got its name, which is quite incongruous: Mormons (Latter Day Saints) typically don't drink alcohol (as would be served in a tavern). The site is now registered as California Historical Landmark #699.
