Aspern

Donaustadt (German pronunciation: [ˈdoːnaʊˌʃtat] ; Viennese: Donaustod; "Danube City") is the 22nd district of Vienna, Austria (German: 22. Bezirk, Donaustadt). Donaustadt is the eastern district of Vienna.

Aspernstraße is a station on U2 of the Vienna U-Bahn. It is located in Aspern in the Donaustadt District. The station was opened on 2 October 2010 with the opening of the third section of the U2 between Stadion and Aspernstraße. The station has two tracks on an island platform with departures towards Karlsplatz and Seestadt. To the north of the station is a siding, allowing trains to terminate and then change directions. Between 2 October 2010 and 5 October 2013, Aspernstraße was the eastern terminus of the U2. Upon the opening of Seestadt, which is now the eastern terminus of the line, approximately every second train terminates at Aspernstaße. Due to its location in the center of the Donaustadt district, directly on Donau Straße (B3), Aspernstraße station is a key transportation point in the east of the city. In addition to the U2, five bus lines terminate at the station. The station is a key connection between lines from the surrounding areas of Hirschstetten and Essling as well as the eastern Viennese surroundings, to the metro system.

Hausfeldstraße is a station on U2 of the Vienna U-Bahn. It is located in Aspern in the Donaustadt District. It opened in 2013. The station used to allow transfer to a nearby railway stop Wien Hausfeldstraße until it closed on 1 October 2018.

Russian Embassy School in Vienna (official full name: Secondary school with extended foreign language teaching under the Embassy of Russia in Austria, Russian: Средняя общеобразовательная школа с углубленным изучением иностранного языка при Посольстве России в Австрии) is a Russian international school in Vienna, Austria. It is a part of the Embassy of Russia in Vienna. The school was established in 1953 as a primary school at the Embassy of the USSR for the children of the Soviet personnel in what was then Allied-occupied Austria. In 1975, the school was transformed into an eight-year school with German language teaching starting from the second grade. In the 1980s, the school moved to its present building located in the Russian diplomatic compound in the 22nd district of Vienna. During Soviet times, the school had a local branch of the Soviet Pioneer organization which was named after general Dmitry Karbyshev, a Soviet prisoner of World War II murdered by the Nazis in the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp complex. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the school was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, along with other former Soviet property abroad. It is now located at the residential complex of the permanent mission of Russia to the International Organizations in Vienna. As of 2016 it had 300 students and 32 teachers. It teaches up to the secondary level and is operated by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Donauspital is a station on U2 of the Vienna U-Bahn. It is located in the Donaustadt District. It opened in 2010.

In the Battle of Aspern-Essling (21–22 May 1809), Napoleon crossed the Danube near Vienna, but the French and their allies were attacked and forced back across the river by the Austrians under Archduke Charles. It was the first time Napoleon had been personally defeated in a major battle, as well as his first defeat in 10 years since the Siege of Acre. Archduke Charles drove out the French but fell short of destroying their army. The Austrian artillery dominated the battlefield, firing 53,000 rounds compared to 24,300 French. The French lost over 20,000 men including one of Napoleon's ablest field commanders and closest friends, Marshal Jean Lannes.

Aspern Nord is a station on U2 of the Vienna U-Bahn. It is located in Aspern in the Donaustadt District. It opened in 2013.

Wien Aspern Nord is a railway station serving Donaustadt, the twenty-second district of Vienna. It is the eastern terminus of the Vienna S-Bahn line S80 and adjacent to the Aspern Nord U-Bahn station.

Wien Erzherzog-Karl-Straße is a railway station serving Donaustadt, the twenty-second district of Vienna. The station is a keilbahnhof located at the junction of the Laaer Ostbahn and Marchegger Ostbahn lines. It has an island platform on each line, although at present no passenger trains use the Laaer Ostbahn north of the station.
