Round Hill (Dartmouth, Massachusetts)

Mishaum Point is the southernmost point of Bristol County in southeastern Massachusetts.Mishaum Point is a private gated. It extends into Buzzards Bay.

Chaypee is the Wampanoag name for a hummock along the Slocum River, in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. The name means "Land of the two hills". Three other hummocks are nearby, Pesket, Pashhok, and Campeetset. Chaypee Hill Farm, a former dairy, sits atop the hummock. It is rumored that several oaks on the hummock were planted by then Harvard College student Isoroku Yamamoto, who later commanded the Japanese flotilla that attacked Pearl Harbor. The Lloyd Center for Environmental Studies is next door.

Padanaram [ˈpeɪdnˌɛɹəm] is a coastal village in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, United States. The village is located on Buzzards Bay, more specifically near the inlet of Apponagansett Bay.

The Lloyd Center for the Environment is a non-profit organization that provides educational programs on aquatic environments in southeastern New England in the United States. The Lloyd Center’s 55 acres (220,000 m2) of estuary and maritime forest in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, was donated to the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust in 1978 by Karen Lloyd as a living memorial to her mother, Katharine Nordell Lloyd. Lloyd Center programming began in 1981. Five walking trails offer scenic views of the Slocum River, Buzzards Bay, Demarest Lloyd State Park, Mishaum Point, and Cuttyhunk Island. The Chaypee Woods Trail snakes its way through stone walls that hearken back to farming days when dairy cattle, ducks, and chickens were raised there. Steep steps and slopes mix with the vistas of the salt marsh, oak-hickory forest, freshwater wetlands, kettleholes, moraine, and a Native American midden site.

Slocums River (sometimes seen as Slocum's River or Slocum River) is a 4.3-mile-long (6.9 km) tidal river in southeastern Massachusetts in the United States. The Paskamanset River and Slocums River really form just a single river, but the freshwater portion kept its earlier Indian name, while the salt-water portion is named for the early settlers of the area, the Slocum family.The Slocums River flows through the town of Dartmouth to Buzzards Bay between Barneys Joy and Mishaum points.

The Hill School is a historic school building (now a private residence) at 4 Middle Street in the Padanaram village of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. The two-story wood-frame structure was built c. 1806, and was established by the area's early settlers as a cooperative venture. It has a "3/4" facade, with three asymmetrically placed windows on each floor, and an off-center entry between two of them, with no window above. The building was moved about 450 feet (140 m) in 1912 to its present location.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Southworth Library was a library located in the village of Padanaram, a coastal village located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, at 404 Elm Street. The library was opened in 1890, and is currently known as the Dartmouth Cultural Center.

Demarest Lloyd State Park is a public recreation area located on Buzzards Bay in the town of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. The park's 200 acres (81 ha) include both an ocean beach and seaside marshlands near the mouth of the Slocums River. The state park is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.

The Elihu Akin House is a house in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, United States. It was built in 1762 by carpenter Jon Mosher. The house was later owned by the Akins, who were a prominent local family; Elihu Akin moved into the house after his own former home had been destroyed in a British raid. At the start of the 21st century, the house was extensively renovated. The Dartmouth Heritage Preservation Trust and the town of Dartmouth now own the house.

Acushnet Fort was a fort that existed from 1776 to around 1820 on Eldridge Point in New Bedford, Massachusetts. It was originally built with Commonwealth resources during the American Revolution in 1776 with ten guns. Rebuilt in 1808 under the federal second system of fortifications, it could accommodate 40 men and had six guns and a magazine.The fort's exact location, especially in the Revolution, is uncertain. The fort appears in the Secretary of War's reports for 1808 and 1811; thus it was a federal fort at that time. In 1808 the entry is: "At the entrance of the inner harbor of New Bedford, two miles below the town, a small enclosed work has been erected of stone, brick, and sod. It commands the entrance into the harbor for a mile and a half in a direct line...". In 1811 the entry is: "At Eldridge Point, which commands the entrance of the harbor; an enclosed work of masonry, mounting six heavy guns...". The "two miles below the town" implies the fort was at or near Clark's Point, later the site of Fort Rodman. Another possibility is the area of Fairhaven known as Poverty Point or Oxford Point, part of which was once owned by the Eldredge family, although this is north of the harbor entrance. Fairhaven was part of New Bedford until 1812.A list of fort commanders shows that the Eldridge Point fort was commanded by Captain James Thomas of the Dragoons in 1810–1811, followed by 1st Lt. Henry Whiting, also of the Dragoons, in 1811–1812.By the time Fort Rodman was built in the 1850s, the fort no longer existed.

The Harbor Defenses of New Bedford was a United States Army Coast Artillery Corps harbor defense command. It coordinated the coast defenses of New Bedford, Massachusetts and the nearby Cape Cod Canal from 1900 to 1950, beginning with the Endicott program. These included a coast artillery fort (Fort Rodman, a.k.a. Fort Taber) and an underwater minefield. The command originated circa 1900 as the New Bedford Artillery District, was renamed Coast Defenses of New Bedford in 1913, and again renamed Harbor Defenses of New Bedford in 1925.

Fort Taber District or the Fort at Clark's Point is a historic American Civil War-era military fort on Wharf Road within the former Fort Rodman Military Reservation in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The fort is now part of Fort Taber Park, a 47-acre town park located at Clark's Point. Fort Taber was an earthwork built nearby with city resources and garrisoned 1861-1863 until Fort Rodman was ready for service.
