Stare Łysogórki [ˈstarɛ wɨsɔˈɡurki] (German: Alt-Lietzegöricke) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Mieszkowice, within Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland, close to the German border. It lies approximately 14 kilometres (9 mi) west of Mieszkowice, 54 km (34 mi) south of Gryfino, and 74 km (46 mi) south of the regional capital Szczecin. There is a World War II cemetery, where about 2,000 Polish soldiers rest, a monument commemorating the sappers of the First Polish Army, and a museum dedicated to the First Polish Army (Muzeum Pamiątek 1 Armii Wojska Polskiego) in the village. The village has a population of 150.

In the Battle of Cedynia or Zehden, an army of Mieszko I of Poland defeated forces of Hodo or Odo I of Lusatia on 24 June 972, near the Oder river. Whether or not the battle actually took place near the modern-day town of Cedynia is disputed in modern scholarship.Mieszko I, Poland's first documented ruler based in Greater Poland, had successfully campaigned in the Cedynia area, then a West Slavic tribal territory also coveted by Holy Roman Emperor Otto I and German nobles. While Mieszko's differences with Otto I were settled by an alliance and payment of tribute to the latter, the nobles whom Otto I had invested with the former Saxon Eastern March, most notably Odo I, challenged Mieszko's gains. The battle was to determine the possession of the area between Mieszko and Odo. Records of the battle are sparse, it was briefly described by the chronicler Thietmar of Merseburg (975−1018), whose father participated in the battle (Chronicon II.19).

It lies approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) south of Cedynia, 53 km (33 mi) south-west of Gryfino, and 73 km (45 mi) south-west of the regional capital Szczecin. Gmina Cedynia is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland, on the German border. Its seat is the town of Cedynia, which lies approximately 45 kilometres (28 mi) south-west of Gryfino and 65 km (40 mi) south-west of the regional capital Szczecin. The gmina covers an area of 180.38 square kilometres (69.6 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 4,343 (out of which the population of Cedynia amounts to 1,653, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 2,690). The gmina contains part of the protected area called Cedynia Landscape Park.

Gozdowice [ɡɔzdɔˈvit͡sɛ] (German: Güstebiese) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Mieszkowice, within Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland, close to the German border. It lies approximately 11 kilometres (7 mi) west of Mieszkowice, 55 km (34 mi) south of Gryfino, and 75 km (47 mi) south of the regional capital Szczecin. The sights of Gozdowice include the Museum of Memorabilia of the Engineering Forces of the First Polish Army (Muzeum Pamiątek Wojsk Inżynieryjnych 1 Armii Wojska Polskiego), a monument commemorating Polish sappers who died during World War II in 1945, an observation tower and the Immaculate Conception church, which dates back to the 13th century.From the High Middle Ages the region was part of the Kingdom of Poland, Margraviate of Brandenburg, Czech Kingdom, Teutonic Order, Brandenburg again, Prussia and Germany from 1871 to 1945, before becoming again part of Poland after the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. The village has a population of 123 and lies on the Odra River.

The Oderbruch (Polish: Kotlina Freienwaldzka) is a landscape located at the Oder river in eastern Germany on the Polish border, with a small part also in Poland. It extends from the towns Oderberg and Bad Freienwalde in the north to Lebus in the south, in the county of Märkisch-Oderland in the state of Brandenburg. The Oderbruch is about 60 km long and its width varies from 12 to 20 km for a total area of some 920 km2. It is a slightly inclined plane descending from 14 m in the southeast to just one meter above sea level in the northwest. The German name Oderbruch comes from Middle High German brouch meaning a marshy ground, swamp or moor (bruch is related to the English term brook), while the Polish name refers to Bad Freienwalde. The Prussian king Frederick the Great initiated the drainage of the Oderbruch in order to bring this large tract of marshland under cultivation. Since that time the land west of the river has been river polder, whereas the 17% of the Oderbruch which is now in Poland has retained its original wetland character. The region experienced two months of heavy fighting which devastated the area at the close of World War II when Marshal Georgy Zhukov led the 1st Belorussian Front through the Oderbruch on the way to Berlin.

Osinów Dolny [ɔˈɕinuf ˈdɔlnɨ] (German: Niederwutzen) is Poland's westernmost settlement, in the administrative district of Gmina Cedynia, within Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland, on the border with Germany. It lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) south-west of Cedynia, 50 km (31 mi) south-west of Gryfino, and 70 km (43 mi) south-west of the regional capital Szczecin. The village has a population of 180. It is the site of a border crossing with Hohenwutzen, on the road connecting the Polish town of Chojna with Bad Freienwalde in Germany.
