Čunovo Water Sports Centre

The 2011 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships took place from September 7–11, 2011 in Bratislava, Slovakia under the auspices of International Canoe Federation. It was the 34th edition. Bad weather conditions on September 7 and 8 forced the organizers to make changes to the schedule. The events were all held over the remaining three days of the Championships. The women's C1 team event debuted at these championships, but did not count as an official medal event due to insufficient number of participating federations.The event was also the only global qualification for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.It was the first time Slovakia hosted the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The races were held in the Čunovo Water Sports Centre on an offshoot of the river Danube near the borders with Austria and Hungary. Slovakia won the medal table with 3 golds, 2 silvers and 3 bronzes.

Benkove ostrovy is group of twelve islets (0.6 ha) which are located in the Gabčíkovo water reservoir south of Bratislava, west from Kalinkovo village. They were built in the years 2006 and 2007 as part of flood protection for the Slovak capital, Bratislava. The islets, and their structure, were proposed and built to facilitate breeding waterbirds which have few possibilities for breeding after the construction of the Gabčíkovo water reservoir in 1992.

Topoľové hony is a nature reserve in the Podunajské Biskupice district of Bratislava, Slovakia. The nature reserve covers an area of 60.06 ha on the left shore of the Danube. It has a protection level of 5 under the Slovak nature protection system. The nature reserve is part of the Dunajské luhy Protected Landscape Area.

Dunajská Lužná (Hungarian: Dénesdtorcsmisérd) is a municipality (village) in the Bratislava Region of western Slovakia in Senec District. Dunajská Lužná lies approximately 15 km from the capital city of Bratislava towards Dunajská Streda and Komárno. It was founded on 1 January 1974 consisting of three formerly separate villages – Nové Košariská (German: Mischdorf, Hungarian: Misérd), Jánošíková (German: Schildern, Hungarian: Dénesd) and Nová Lipnica (German: Tartschendorf, Hungarian: Torcs). Dunajská Lužná belongs to the vicinity of Bratislava. There is increasing building activity because of new inhabitants coming from Bratislava or other cities. Not far from the municipality towards Senec lie two lakes - Malá Voda and Piesková Jama. They are used for fishing and bathing and in summer months they are quite crowded. Near the township runs a dam, protecting the villages and townships all the way from Bratislava to Gabčíkovo from flooding of the Danube River. There is a large Roman Catholic community in Dunajská Lužná with the Church, devoted to "The Elevation of the Holy Cross". Besides Roman Catholics there are also Lutherans and other religions.

Rusovce Mansion or Rusovce manor house (Slovak: Rusovský kaštieľ, Hungarian: Oroszvár; German: Karlburg) is a mansion located in the Rusovce borough, part of Bratislava, capital of Slovakia. The mansion was built on the site of an older manor house from the 16th century, with a medieval structure incorporated into the following buildings. The façade got its current look by application of the Tudor and English Neogothic styles. The manor house is surrounded by an English park. The premises cover 24 km2 on both banks of the Danube river. In the twentieth century, mansion and premises have been owned by Hungarian Prince Elemer Lonyay, husband to Princess Stéphanie of Belgium, widow of Crown Prince Rudolph of Austria-Hungary. The couple lived in the mansion until early in 1945. Lonyay, who died in Budapest in 1946, left the estate to the Benedictine Order, who had given refuge to him and his wife during the last weeks of World War II at Pannonhalma Archabbey. In 1947, due to the Paris Peace Treaty, Hungary had to cede the area to Czechoslovakia. The then communist government seized the premises in 1948. Currently, the building is managed by the Slovak Republic Government Office and closed to the public. The government has refused to return the estate to the Benedictine Order, who after unsuccessfully calling to the Slovak Constitutional Court is said to seek a decision at the European Court of Justice in 2009.
