It lies approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) north-west of Komprachcice and 11 km (7 mi) west of the regional capital Opole. Even today there is still a minority of Germans living in Neudorf. Since 2009 the city has the German name "Polnisch Neudorf", which was used before the year 1914. Notable is that the name "Neudorf in Oberschlesien" was not used, even if the name change was before 1933–45.

Its seat is the village of Komprachcice (Comprachtschütz), which lies approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) south-west of the regional capital Opole. The gmina covers an area of 55.87 square kilometres (21.6 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 9,108. Since 2009 the commune, like much of the area, has been bilingual in German and Polish, and a substantial German minority remained after the War.

Between 1871 and 1945, the area was part of Germany (see Territorial changes of Poland after World War II).
