Richmond Hill was a colonial estate in Manhattan Island, that was built on a 26-acre (110,000 m2) parcel of the "King's Farm" obtained on a 99-year lease in 1767 from Trinity Church by Major Abraham Mortier, paymaster of the British army in the colony. Part of the site is now the Charlton-King-Vandam Historic District of Manhattan's Hudson Square neighborhood.

The Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School, also referred to as LREI, is a school in Manhattan, New York City. It was founded by Elisabeth Irwin in 1921 as the Little Red School House and is one of the city's first progressive schools. Created as a joint public-private educational experiment, the school tested principles of progressive education that had been advocated since the turn of the 20th century by John Dewey. The founders postulated that the lessons of progressive education could be applied successfully in the crowded, ethnically diverse public schools of the nation's largest city.

Hudson Square is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, New York City, approximately bounded by Clarkson Street to the north, Canal Street to the south, Varick Street to the east and the Hudson River to the west. To the north of the neighborhood is Greenwich Village, to the south is TriBeCa, and to the east are the South Village and SoHo. The area, once the site of the colonial property named Richmond Hill, became known in the 20th century as the Printing District and later as West SoHo, and into the 21st century it remains a center of media-related activity, including in advertising, design, communications, and the arts.Within the neighborhood is the landmarked Charlton–King–Vandam Historic District, which contains the largest concentration of Federalist and Greek Revival style row houses built during the first half of the 19th century. The most prominent feature within the neighborhood is the Manhattan entrance to the Holland Tunnel. The current tallest structure in the neighborhood is the Dominick condo hotel.

SOB's is a live world music venue and restaurant in the Hudson Square neighborhood of Manhattan. S.O.B.’s is an abbreviation of Sounds of Brazil. Larry Gold started SOBs in June 1982, and he currently still owns the space. Gold opened the venue with the purpose of exposing the music of the Afro-Latino diaspora to as many people as possible. It has a standing capacity of 450, and a seating capacity of 160.In its early days, SOBs existed on a barren stretch at the corner of Varick Street and Houston Street, just above the Houston Street subway station. The area, now known as Hudson Square, soon became trendy due to its proximity to the SoHo neighborhood. The venue's reputation began to grow with performances from Latin legends like Tito Puente, Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz and Eddie Palmieri. Brazilian artists including Seu Jorge, Ben Jorge, and Astrud Gilberto have performed at the venue, as well as more contemporary artists such as Isaac Delgado, Orquesta Aragon, Los Papines, Manolito Simonet, Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro, and Los Van Van.

The Charlton–King–Vandam Historic District is a small historic district in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (NYCLPC) in 1966, the district contains "the city's largest concentration of row houses in the Federal style, as well as a significant concentration of Greek Revival houses." It is sometimes included as part of the South Village (to the east) or Hudson Square (to the southwest), though it is historically distinct from both neighborhoods.The district includes parts, but not all, of Charlton, King and Vandam Streets between the Avenue of the Americas (Sixth Avenue) and Varick Street (the southern extension of Seventh Avenue), as well as the block bounded by King, MacDougal and Houston Streets and Sixth Avenue. In its designation report, the NYCLPC emphasized that this area was not a modern creation but had once been part of a larger "distinct and separate neighborhood" that was generally developed between 1820 and 1829 and originally extended from the Hudson River (then at Greenwich Street) to MacDougal Street, and from Vandam Street to King Street.In 1973, the district was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Houston Street station is a local station on the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. Located at West Houston and Varick Streets in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, it is served by the 1 train at all times and by the 2 train during late nights. The station was built by the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT) as part of the Dual Contracts with New York City, and opened on July 1, 1918. The station had its platforms extended in the 1960s, and was renovated in 1994.

Paradise Garage, also known as "the Garage" or the "Gay-rage", was a New York City discotheque notable in the history of dance and pop music, as well as LGBT and nightclub cultures. The 10,000 square feet (930 m2) club was founded by sole proprietor Michael Brody, and occupied a building formerly located at 84 King Street in the SoHo neighborhood. It operated from 1977 to 1987 and featured notable resident DJ Larry Levan.The Garage is credited with influencing the development of modern nightclubs, and is cited as a direct inspiration for London's Ministry of Sound. Unlike other venues of its time, Paradise Garage promoted dancing rather than verbal interaction, and it was the first to place the DJ at the center of attention. It was known for its enthusiastic-yet-unforgiving nature toward performers. It hosted many notable musicians including Diana Ross and a young Madonna. In 1979, Tim Curry released the album Fearless, containing the single "Paradise Garage", whose lyrics narrate visiting the discotheque.

City Winery is a winery, restaurant, music venue and private event location in Hudson Square, New York City. Other locations include Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville, Boston, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. Satellite locations are sited in Chicago and New York City. A location in Montgomery, New York, at former textile mill, the first one outside a major city, was also planned for 2018.Founded in 2008 by chief executive officer Michael Dorf, the venue has hosted gigs by Graham Nash, Norah Jones, Lee Ann Womack and Graham Parker. Recently, John Mulaney performed a several-week-long stretch of stand-up shows at City Winery in New York City, Mulaney's first shows since leaving rehab in early 2021. It runs a set of free early evening weekday gigs for local musicians. Each City Winery location is a fully functioning urban winery, importing grapes from all over the world to create unique locally made wines. Shlomo Lipetz, also a member of Team Israel at the World Baseball Classic in March 2017, serves as the vice president of programming, and books music for their five locations. Lipetz began working at City Winery in 2008 with its founding.

The SoHo Playhouse is an Off-Broadway theatre at 15 Vandam Street in the Hudson Square area of Manhattan.The theatre opened in 1962 as the Village South Theatre with the original production of Jean Erdman's musical play The Coach with the Six Insides which was based upon James Joyce's last novel Finnegans Wake. The following year Edward Albee used profits from Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? to establish the Playwrights' Unit at the Village South Theatre; an organization which provided a platform for untested new playwrights to premiere their works. The theatre closed in 1970, with its last production being Michael Preston Barr and Dion McGregor's musical Who's Happy Now?. It did still house plays for various off-Broadway productions under the simple name of 15 Van Dam. The theatre was home to the New York Academy of Theatrical Arts from 1970 until 1974. It reopened in as the SoHo Playhouse in 1994 with a production of the play Grandma Sylvia's Funeral, which ran for four years. It has since served as an Off-Broadway receiving house.

Greenwich Village High School (GVHS) is a planned grade 9-12 independent high school in Manhattan, New York City. The school is located at 30 Vandam Street between 6th Avenue and Varick. GVHS was scheduled to open in September 2009. On the Greenwich Village High School website, it says that the school, "will be the first independent, co-ed, nondenominational school exclusively for students in grades nine through twelve in New York City". It is the intention of the board to create a private, nonreligious high school. Utilizing the resources of the larger NYC community, an interdisciplinary and relevant curriculum will combine ethical and intellectual training, and give equal weight to the sciences, the humanities, and the arts. GVHS will be an intentionally diverse community, reflecting the many racial, ethnic, and social groups which make up New York City. The school was planned to open with a ninth grade class of 45-60 students, then build to 90 students per grade level over the following three years for a total of 360 students. As of July 1, 2008, David Liebmann, an experienced independent school administrator and teacher, was appointed head of school. Prior to GVHS, he worked at Shady Side Academy (PA), The Westminster Schools (GA), and The Chewonki Maine Coast Semester (ME). David Clarke was named academic dean. He served on the faculty at Parker School (HI), Menlo School (CA), and Buckingham Browne & Nichols School (MA) where he was academic dean and college counselor. Tia Biasi served as director of development, having previously worked at Grace Church School (NY). Camilla Campbell was admissions associate and Woody Loverude was admissions assistant. A founding board of trustees composed of Greenwich Village residents, parents, philanthropists, and other supporters governs the school and provides guidance and support. As of 2009, the planned opening was put on indefinite hold, as expected private funding failed to materialize.

Choco-Story New York: The Chocolate Museum and Experience with Jacques Torres was a museum of the history of chocolate-making. It was associated with Jacques Torres Chocolate, a chocolate manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer whose flagship store was on the premises. Located in the Hudson Square neighborhood of Manhattan, the museum was in space formerly occupied by the Jacques Torres manufacturing operation, which has since been moved to a much larger space in Brooklyn. The 5,000-square-foot (460 m2) museum displayed artifacts related to the history of making chocolate, such as pottery and knives, going back to the time of the Maya in 3500 BC, as well items used in chocolate's consumption, such as a 1750 cup from Spain made of cocoanut shell and silver. There were also chocolate-making demonstrations and tastings, showing how bon bons and traditional Mexican hot chocolate are made. There was a play area for children where they could dig for chocolate-related "artifacts" or pretend they are running a retail chocolate store and kitchen. Hands-on classes for adults were also available.The idea for the museum was presented to Jacques Torres by Eddy Van Belle, who had previously set up Choco-Story museums in Belgium, France and Mexico. This was the fifth such museum. It opened on March 7, 2017, and closed as of March 1, 2019.

Film Forum is a nonprofit movie theater at 209 West Houston Street in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. It began in 1970 as an alternative screening space for independent films, with 50 folding chairs, one projector and a $19,000 annual budget. Karen Cooper became director in 1972. Its current Greenwich Village cinema (on Houston Street, west of Sixth Avenue) was built in 1990. Film Forum is a 4-screen cinema open 365 days a year, with 280,000 annual admissions, nearly 500 seats, 60 employees, 4500 members and an operating budget of $5 million. Film Forum is the only autonomous nonprofit cinema in New York City and one of the few in the United States of America. In 1994, Film Forum was honored with a Village Award by the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, even though it is technically in Soho. In 2018, Film Forum had a major renovation, adding new seats (and in turn, more leg room) and a fourth theater.
