SOB's is a live world music venue and restaurant in the Hudson Square neighborhood of Manhattan. S.O.B.’s is an abbreviation of Sounds of Brazil. Larry Gold started SOBs in June 1982, and he currently still owns the space. Gold opened the venue with the purpose of exposing the music of the Afro-Latino diaspora to as many people as possible. It has a standing capacity of 450, and a seating capacity of 160.In its early days, SOBs existed on a barren stretch at the corner of Varick Street and Houston Street, just above the Houston Street subway station. The area, now known as Hudson Square, soon became trendy due to its proximity to the SoHo neighborhood. The venue's reputation began to grow with performances from Latin legends like Tito Puente, Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz and Eddie Palmieri. Brazilian artists including Seu Jorge, Ben Jorge, and Astrud Gilberto have performed at the venue, as well as more contemporary artists such as Isaac Delgado, Orquesta Aragon, Los Papines, Manolito Simonet, Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro, and Los Van Van.

City-As-School (CAS) is a public high school located at 16 Clarkson Street between Hudson Street and Seventh Avenue South in the West Village of Manhattan, New York City which was established in 1972. It is one of America's oldest alternative public high schools.

Film Forum is a nonprofit movie theater at 209 West Houston Street in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. It began in 1970 as an alternative screening space for independent films, with 50 folding chairs, one projector and a $19,000 annual budget. Karen Cooper became director in 1972. Its current Greenwich Village cinema (on Houston Street, west of Sixth Avenue) was built in 1990. Film Forum is a 4-screen cinema open 365 days a year, with 280,000 annual admissions, nearly 500 seats, 60 employees, 4500 members and an operating budget of $5 million. Film Forum is the only autonomous nonprofit cinema in New York City and one of the few in the United States of America. In 1994, Film Forum was honored with a Village Award by the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, even though it is technically in Soho. In 2018, Film Forum had a major renovation, adding new seats (and in turn, more leg room) and a fourth theater.

Paradise Garage, also known as "the Garage" or the "Gay-rage", was a New York City discotheque notable in the history of dance and pop music, as well as LGBT and nightclub cultures. The 10,000 square feet (930 m2) club was founded by sole proprietor Michael Brody, and occupied a building formerly located at 84 King Street in the SoHo neighborhood. It operated from 1977 to 1987 and featured notable resident DJ Larry Levan.The Garage is credited with influencing the development of modern nightclubs, and is cited as a direct inspiration for London's Ministry of Sound. Unlike other venues of its time, Paradise Garage promoted dancing rather than verbal interaction, and it was the first to place the DJ at the center of attention. It was known for its enthusiastic-yet-unforgiving nature toward performers. It hosted many notable musicians including Diana Ross and a young Madonna. In 1979, Tim Curry released the album Fearless, containing the single "Paradise Garage", whose lyrics narrate visiting the discotheque.

The Charlton–King–Vandam Historic District is a small historic district in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (NYCLPC) in 1966, the district contains "the city's largest concentration of row houses in the Federal style, as well as a significant concentration of Greek Revival houses." It is sometimes included as part of the South Village (to the east) or Hudson Square (to the southwest), though it is historically distinct from both neighborhoods.The district includes parts, but not all, of Charlton, King and Vandam Streets between the Avenue of the Americas (Sixth Avenue) and Varick Street (the southern extension of Seventh Avenue), as well as the block bounded by King, MacDougal and Houston Streets and Sixth Avenue. In its designation report, the NYCLPC emphasized that this area was not a modern creation but had once been part of a larger "distinct and separate neighborhood" that was generally developed between 1820 and 1829 and originally extended from the Hudson River (then at Greenwich Street) to MacDougal Street, and from Vandam Street to King Street.In 1973, the district was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

James J. Walker Park is a public park in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan in New York City, New York. The approximately 2-acre (0.81 ha) park, is bound by Varick Street, the St. Luke's Place section of Leroy Street, Hudson Street and Clarkson Street. The park has a baseball field, bocce courts, playgrounds, bathrooms, handball courts and Wi-Fi hotspots, as well as a memorial dedicated to two deceased firefighters. The park is adjacent to the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center, formerly the Carmine Recreation Center in honor of Trinity Episcopal Church vestryman and colonial landowner Nicholas Carman (change ti Carmine to reflect Italians in the area), at the intersection of Carmine and Clarson Streets with Seventh Avenue South. It was named after a long-time president of Community Board 2, Anthony V. Dapolito, who was known as the "Mayor of Greenwich Village."

St. John's Burying Ground was a cemetery bounded by Varick Street, Leroy Street, Hudson Street and Clarkson Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. The ground was connected with St. John's Chapel of Trinity Parish from 1834 to 1898, although many of the burials predate the cemetery's acquisition by the church. The last burials were in about 1860. It is estimated that about 10,000 people were buried there. In 1897, the cemetery was made into a public park by the city of New York. Only about 250 bodies were removed. The new park was called St. John's Park, but later became known as Hudson Park, and is now called James J. Walker Park. Tony Dapolito Outdoor Pool and Community Center and Hudson Park Library were built on the old cemetery grounds. The only remnant that remains of the park's time as a cemetery is the firemen's monument, which was erected by Engine Company 13 to Eugene Underhill and Frederick A. Ward, who were killed at a fire in 1834. The monument used to be at their grave site, but it was moved in 1898.

The Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School, also referred to as LREI, is a school in Manhattan, New York City. It was founded by Elisabeth Irwin in 1921 as the Little Red School House and is one of the city's first progressive schools. Created as a joint public-private educational experiment, the school tested principles of progressive education that had been advocated since the turn of the 20th century by John Dewey. The founders postulated that the lessons of progressive education could be applied successfully in the crowded, ethnically diverse public schools of the nation's largest city.

Richmond Hill was a colonial estate in Manhattan Island, that was built on a 26-acre (110,000 m2) parcel of the "King's Farm" obtained on a 99-year lease in 1767 from Trinity Church by Major Abraham Mortier, paymaster of the British army in the colony. Part of the site is now the Charlton-King-Vandam Historic District of Manhattan's Hudson Square neighborhood.

Choco-Story New York: The Chocolate Museum and Experience with Jacques Torres was a museum of the history of chocolate-making. It was associated with Jacques Torres Chocolate, a chocolate manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer whose flagship store was on the premises. Located in the Hudson Square neighborhood of Manhattan, the museum was in space formerly occupied by the Jacques Torres manufacturing operation, which has since been moved to a much larger space in Brooklyn. The 5,000-square-foot (460 m2) museum displayed artifacts related to the history of making chocolate, such as pottery and knives, going back to the time of the Maya in 3500 BC, as well items used in chocolate's consumption, such as a 1750 cup from Spain made of cocoanut shell and silver. There were also chocolate-making demonstrations and tastings, showing how bon bons and traditional Mexican hot chocolate are made. There was a play area for children where they could dig for chocolate-related "artifacts" or pretend they are running a retail chocolate store and kitchen. Hands-on classes for adults were also available.The idea for the museum was presented to Jacques Torres by Eddy Van Belle, who had previously set up Choco-Story museums in Belgium, France and Mexico. This was the fifth such museum. It opened on March 7, 2017, and closed as of March 1, 2019.

Hudson Square is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, New York City, approximately bounded by Clarkson Street to the north, Canal Street to the south, Varick Street to the east and the Hudson River to the west. To the north of the neighborhood is Greenwich Village, to the south is TriBeCa, and to the east are the South Village and SoHo. The area, once the site of the colonial property named Richmond Hill, became known in the 20th century as the Printing District and later as West SoHo, and into the 21st century it remains a center of media-related activity, including in advertising, design, communications, and the arts.Within the neighborhood is the landmarked Charlton–King–Vandam Historic District, which contains the largest concentration of Federalist and Greek Revival style row houses built during the first half of the 19th century. The most prominent feature within the neighborhood is the Manhattan entrance to the Holland Tunnel. The current tallest structure in the neighborhood is the Dominick condo hotel.
