Naval School (Portugal)

The Academia de Marinha (Portuguese for "Navy Academy" or "Marine Academy"), MembIH is the cultural agency of the Portuguese Navy under the Chief of Naval Staff. Its purpose is to promote and to publish artistic, literary, historical, and scientific studies relating to the sea and maritime activities. Its offices are located in Lisbon at the Naval Headquarters, Rua do Arsenal.

The Lisbon Naval Base (Portuguese: Base Naval de Lisboa), is the main installation and operational base of the Portuguese Navy. Located at the former Royal Estate of Alfeite on the south bank of the Tagus river's estuary, near the city of Almada, the installation is sometimes referred to as the Alfeite Naval Base.Most of the Portuguese Naval fleet ships are based at Alfeite, as well as many of its administrative, training and support services. Within its perimeter are also located the Naval School, the Naval Technologies School, the Alfeite Arsenal, the Marine corps Base and other Portuguese Navy units.The Lisbon Naval Base is an administrative entity that – besides the main naval station at Alfeite – manages several other smaller naval facilities in the region.

Corroios is a civil parish in the municipality of Seixal in the district of Setúbal, Portugal. It is part of the Lisbon metropolitan area. The population in 2011 was 47,661, in an area of 17.11 km². Corroios remains as the second most populous town in Portugal, after Algueirão-Mem Martins (note: this ranking includes only vilas [towns] and excludes cidades [cities]). The town is located on the south side of the Tagus River, opposite Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Corroios has many immigrants, mainly from Africa but also from Eastern Europe and Asia and one third of the population is below the age of 25 years.

Cova da Piedade is a former civil parish in the municipality of Almada, Lisbon metropolitan area, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Almada, Cova da Piedade, Pragal e Cacilhas. The population in 2011 was 19,904, in an area of 1.42 km2. The parish was founded on February 7, 1928.

The Tidal Mill of Corroios (Portuguese: Moinho de Maré de Corroios/Núcleo do Moinho de Maré de Corroios do EMS) is a 15th-century pluvial mill situated in the civil parish of Corroios, municipality of Seixal.

Feijó is a former civil parish in the municipality of Almada, Lisbon metropolitan area, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Laranjeiro e Feijó. The population in 2011 was 18,884, in an area of 3.94 km2.

Almada, Cova da Piedade, Pragal e Cacilhas is a civil parish in the municipality of Almada, in the Portuguese district of Setúbal. It was formed in 2013 from the merger of the former parishes of Almada, Cova da Piedade, Pragal and Cacilhas, and covers an area of 6.15 square kilometres (66,200,000 sq ft). In 2011 there were 49,661 inhabitants in the reconstituted parish.

Almada (Portuguese pronunciation: [alˈmadɐ] (listen)) is a city and a municipality in Portugal, located on the southern margin of the Tagus River, on the opposite side of the river from Lisbon. The two cities are connected by the 25 de Abril Bridge. The population in 2011 was 174,030, in an area of 70.21 km2. The urbanized center had a population of 101,500 in 2001.

Cacilhas is a former civil parish in the municipality of Almada, Lisbon metropolitan area, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Almada, Cova da Piedade, Pragal e Cacilhas. The population in 2011 was 6,017, in an area of 1.09 km2. Cacilhas is situated on the south bank of the river Tagus facing the city of Lisbon.

Dom Fernando II e Glória is a wooden-hulled, 50-gun frigate of the Portuguese Navy. She was launched in 1843 and made her maiden voyage in 1845. Built at the shipyard of Daman in Portuguese India, it was Portugal's last sailing warship to be built and also the last ship that undertook the Carreira da Índia (India Run), a regular military line that connected Portugal to its colonies in India since the beginning of the 16th century. The ship remained in active service until 1878, when she made her last sea voyage, having travelled more than one hundred thousand miles, the equivalent of five circumnavigations of the world. After long service it was almost destroyed by a fire in 1963 with the burned wooden-hull remaining beached at the mud-flats of the river Tagus for the next 29 years. Finally in 1990 the Portuguese Navy decided to restore her to her appearance in the 1850s. During the World Exhibition of 1998 the ship remained in Lisbon as a museum ship on the dependency of the Navy Museum, being classified as an Auxiliary Navy Unit (UAM 203). Since 2008, the ship lies on the southern margin of the Tagus river in Cacilhas, Almada.
