Zawada [zaˈvada] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Mierzęcice, within Będzin County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It lies approximately 12 kilometres (7 mi) north of Będzin and 22 km (14 mi) north of the regional capital Katowice.

In 1975–1998, the village administratively belonged to the Katowice province.

Pyrzowice [pɨʐɔˈvit͡sɛ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Ożarowice, within Tarnowskie Góry County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It lies approximately 2 kilometres (1 mi) east of Ożarowice, 15 km (9 mi) east of Tarnowskie Góry, and 25 km (16 mi) north of the regional capital Katowice. The Katowice International Airport is located nearby. Pyrzowice belongs to Zagłębie Dąbrowskie, part of historic province of Lesser Poland. The village was first mentioned in 1340, and for centuries, it was part of the Duchy of Siewierz, property of bishops of Kraków. Originally, Pyrzowice was owned by Norbertine nuns from Kraków. Across centuries, it changed hands several times. After the Partitions of Poland, since 1815 it belonged to Russian-controlled Congress Poland, and in 1918 it returned to Poland, as part of Kielce Voivodeship. In 1940, German occupiers opened an air base in the village of Zendek, which would later become Katowice International Airport.

Long-haul flights are operated from Katowice to Varadero in Cuba, Cancún in Mexico, Malé in the Maldives, Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand, Phu Quoc in Vietnam, Porlamar on Margarita Island in Venezuela and to Puerto Plata as well as Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic by LOT's Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Plus Ultra's Airbus A330. The airport has the tallest Air Traffic Control Tower and the second longest runway in Poland. Katowice Airport is Poland's only airport with more than one passenger terminal and the airport with the biggest number of based airlines. The Katowice Airport serves the most industrialised region in Poland, one of the most urbanised areas of Europe. 13 million inhabitants are estimated to live within 100 km of Katowice Airport. This is a larger catchment area than many other airports in Europe have.
