Wolvega railway station

Wolvega (Low German: Wolvege), (West Frisian: Wolvegea) is the largest town in the municipality of Weststellingwerf in the province of Friesland (Fryslan), in the Netherlands. It had a population of around 13,090 in 2021. Wolvega is the capital and largest town of the municipality.

Weststellingwerf (Dutch: [ˈʋɛststɛlɪŋˌʋɛr(ə)f] ; Stellingwarfs: Weststellingwarf or Stellingwarf-Westaende) is a municipality in the province of Friesland in the northern Netherlands. It is one of the municipalities of Friesland, where the spoken language is not West Frisian; instead, Stellingwerfs, a dialect of Dutch Low Saxon, is spoken here.

It had a population of around 183 in 2017.The village was first mentioned in 1320 as Nieholtwolt, and means "new low-lying wood". Nije (new) has been added to distinguish from Oldeholtwolde. The church of Nijeholtwolde was demolished around 1700. There were no funds to rebuilt it, and a bell tower was constructed instead. The tower has been restored in 1982.In 1840, Nijeholtwolde was home to 225 people.

Ter Idzard (West Frisian: Teridzert) is a village in Weststellingwerf in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 310 in 2017.The village was first mentioned in 1320 as Ydzerde, and means "settlement of Idzerd (person)". The Roman Catholic church dates from 1903 and has a spire from 1926, however the village probably had a church around 1100.The Idzerda Stins was a stins (estate) in the village owned by the Idzerda family. It already existed around 1500. Meinte Idzerda was grietman (a combination of mayor and judge) of Weststellingwerf between 1600 and 1619. The estate was demolished in 1740 and replaced by a farm.Ter Idzard was home to 446 people in 1840.

Sonnega (West Frisian: Sonnegea) is a village in Weststellingwerf in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 230 in 2017. The village was first mentioned in 1399 as Sonnegae, and means "village of Sonne (person)". The bell tower of Sonnega was built in 1640 and restored in 1926. Sonnega was home to 198 people in 1840.

Oldeholtpade (West Frisian: Aldeholtpea) is a village in Weststellingwerf in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 1,020 in 2017.The village was first mentioned in 1204 as "Holenpathe juxta Liennam1", and means "old low-lying path". Olde (old) has been added to distinguish from Nijeholtpade. Oldeholtpade is a road village which developed along the Wolvega to Oosterwolde road. The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1545 to replace a church from 1204. The tower was built in 1608.Oldeholtpade was home to 407 people in 1840.

The Dutch Reformed church was destroyed in a storm around 1700. A new church was built in 1875.In 1840, Oldeholtwolde was home to 149 people.

It had a population of around 153 in 2017.The village was first mentioned in 1320 as Nienlameren. The etymology is unclear. It uses Nije (new) to distinguish from Oldelamer. Nijelamer has no church, but only a bell tower. The tower was restored in 1795.Nijelamer was home to 257 people in 1840.
