Warburton, Greater Manchester

St Werburgh's Church is the name of two separate churches in the village of Warburton, Greater Manchester, England. The older church is located to the west of the village, and may date back as far as the middle of the 13th century. It is now a redundant church but services are held in the summer months. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. The authors of the Buildings of England series call this church "a lovable muddle".The newer church was built in 1883–85 and is located to the southeast of the village on the A6144 road. It is a Grade II listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield and the deanery of Bowdon. Its benefice is combined with that of St Peter, Oughtrington.The dedication is an unusual one, ordinarily local to Chester, where Werburgh is the patron saint. Werburgh, an Anglo-Saxon saint who has given her name to Warburgtune, as Warburton was called in the Domesday survey (1086), was the daughter of Wulfhere, the first Christian king of Mercia. She died around AD 700 as Abbess of Ely, with the care of several nunneries. Her relics were moved to the abbey of St Peter and St Paul in Chester, which was later rededicated to St Werburgh.

Hollins Green is a village on the eastern edge of Warrington, in the Warrington district, in the ceremonial county of Cheshire and formerly in the historic county of Lancashire, England. The village is in the civil parish of Rixton-with-Glazebrook; the ecclesiastical parish is Hollinfare.

Heatley & Warburton railway station was located in Heatley near Warburton, Greater Manchester. It opened in 1853 and closed in 1962.

Warburton School is on the south side of Dunham Road in the village of Warburton, Greater Manchester, England. It has been converted into a house and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.The school was built in 1871–72 for the landowner Rowland Egerton-Warburton of Arley Hall, and was designed by the Chester architect John Douglas. It is constructed in brick with stone and terracotta dressings, and has a tiled roof. The building has three bays; from the left, the first two bays contain seven-light mullioned windows. Above the window in the central bay is a dormer gable that contains a three-light mullioned window. The right bay contains a modern patio window. Between the left and central bays is a decorated brick chimney stack. Above the main roof is a hipped bellcote. In the interior of the building are two pairs of truncated crucks supporting the roof.

Rixton Clay Pits (also known as Rixton Claypits) is a former clay extraction site in Rixton, near Hollins Green, Warrington, England. Formerly farmland, boulder clay extraction started in the 1920s for brick making in the adjacent brickworks and ceased in 1965 – since then it has been allowed to return to nature. It is now an area of ponds, scrub, woodland and damp grassland. It is owned and managed by Warrington Borough Council as a local amenity.Two large sections of Rixton Clay Pits, 15 hectares (37 acres) in total, are a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a designated Special Area of Conservation, on account of its calcareous grassland communities and because it supports the largest breeding population of Great Crested Newts in Cheshire. The whole was established as a local nature reserve in 1996, and has waymarked paths and a visitor centre.Fishing is permitted on the lake between the two sections of SSSI, and is controlled by the Warrington Anglers Association, the main stock being tench, bream and roach. Carp and pike are also present.

Lymm High School is a secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in Lymm, Warrington, Cheshire.

The River Bollin is a major tributary of the River Mersey in the north-west of England. It rises in Macclesfield Forest at the western end of the Peak District, and can be seen in spring form, from the Buxton to Macclesfield road. The stream then descends the 10 miles (16 km) through Macclesfield and The Carrs Park in Wilmslow where it has a confluence with the River Dean, near to Styal Prison. For the following 10 miles (16 km) it defines the southwestern portion of the border between Greater Manchester and Cheshire before merging with the River Mersey north of Lymm. It flows through the Styal country park and was used in the cotton calico factory there, Quarry Bank Mill, as a source of power. Near to the Quarry Bank Mill site there is a natural weir. The Bollin is culverted underneath the southern runway of Manchester Airport. The town of Macclesfield used to dispose all its waste and sewage into the Bollin. The profusion of human sewage in the Bollin was still common in 1850.

Oughtrington Hall was a country house located in Oughtrington Lane to the east of the village of Lymm in Cheshire, England. The manor house was rebuilt in about 1810 for Trafford Trafford (né Leigh: a descendant of the ancient Leighs of West Hall, High Legh), who assumed the surname and arms of Trafford by Royal Licence 5 December 1791 in compliance with the Will of his maternal uncle Richard Trafford, of Swythamley.In 1862 Oughtrington Hall was bought by G. C. Dewhurst, a cotton manufacturer from Manchester. Dewhurst enlarged the service wing and also paid for the construction of St Peter's Church nearby.Built in the neoclassical architectural style, it is rendered of brick with stone dressings and a slate roof. At the centre of the entrance front is a wide canted bay containing a porch with paired Tuscan columns. On each side of the porch are three-light windows under a segmental arch.The former mansion now forms the main building of Lymm High School, and is designated in the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II listed building.

Glazebrook railway station serves the villages in the civil parish of Rixton-with-Glazebrook in the Warrington unitary authority in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by Northern Trains. The station is 9.9 miles (16 km) west of Manchester Oxford Road on the Manchester to Liverpool Line.
