Wrangbrook Junction

Upton Colliery was a coal mine near to the village of Upton in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. The site was 8.5 miles (13.7 km) north west of Doncaster and 10 miles (16 km) north east of Barnsley. Coal was transhipped from the colliery by the former Hull and Barnsley Railway line. The colliery had a short life of only 40 years. Geological faulting and a serious explosion in 1964 led to its closure.

Little John's Well is a water well situated near to the A638 at Hampole, in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, in what was known as Barnsdale Forest.

Barnsdale, or Barnsdale Forest, is an area of South and West Yorkshire, England. The area falls within the modern-day districts of Doncaster and Wakefield. Barnsdale was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. Barnsdale lies in the immediate vicinity north and north-west of Doncaster, and which was formerly forested and a place of royal hunts, and also renowned as a haunt of the outlaw Robin Hood in early ballads.

South Elmsall ( EM-səl) is a town and civil parish in the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. South Elmsall lies to the east of Hemsworth. The town had a population in 2001 of 6,107, increasing to 6,519 at the 2011 Census.

Frickley & South Elmsall Colliery was opened by the Carlton Main Colliery Company Ltd in 1903 in South Elmsall, in Yorkshire, England.

North Elmsall ( EM-səl) is a village and civil parish in the City of Wakefield district in West Yorkshire, England. It had a population of 4,093 in 2001 and 3,873 in 2011. Until 1974 it was part of Hemsworth Rural District. The parish is seven miles from Pontefract, nine miles from Barnsley and Doncaster, and eleven miles from Wakefield.In 1887, North Elmsall was described as North Elmsall, ry. sta. (Upton and North Elmsall), E. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, 7 miles SE. of Pontefract.

Skelbrooke is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Hampole, in the Doncaster district, in the county of South Yorkshire, England. In 1931 the civil parish had a population of 119.The Grade II listed church of St Michael and All Angels is of medieval origin, but was rebuilt in 1872 following fire damage. There are also two Grade II listed medieval grave slabs near the church, and Skelbrooke Hall with its gate piers as well as a house that once formed part of an 18th-century stable block are likewise listed buildings.

Upton and North Elmsall railway station, was a railway station on the Hull and Barnsley Railway (H&B) in Yorkshire, England. The station served the villages of Upton and North Elmsall, (both now in the Wakefield District of West Yorkshire). The station closed completely in 1959 and the track was lifted in 1967, however, in 2020, a proposal was forwarded to reinstate over 2 miles (3.2 km) of line for a new heritage railway.

Hampole Priory was a priory of Cistercian nuns (Knowles & Hadcock) in Hampole, South Yorkshire, England. Its existence was documented in a papal bull of 1146. The nuns were active in the wool trade. Richard Rolle, a mystic author in the 14th century known as the "hermit of Hampole", settled at the priory after several moves and lived there until his death in 1349. It was dissolved in the 16th century.In 1552, Edward VI granted the nunnery to Francis Aislaby, a soldier who had served in Scotland at the siege of Haddington and was captain of Dunglass Castle. A cottage now stands on the site of the former priory.

Wentbridge is a small village in the City of Wakefield district of West Yorkshire, England. It lies around 3 miles (5 km) southeast of its nearest town of size, Pontefract, close to the A1 road. The village contains one of the largest viaducts in Europe, its significance sanctioned by the Museum of Modern Art. Wentbridge is one of a number of locations that have connections to the legend of Robin Hood.

Hampole is a small village and civil parish in the City of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England, close to the border with West Yorkshire. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the eastern boundary of the parish is marked by the Great North Road (now the A1), and the parish lies in what was once the Barnsdale Forest. It had a population of 187 in 2001, increasing to 203 at the 2011 Census, which includes the neighbouring village of Skelbrooke. Hampole lies on the A638 between Doncaster and Wakefield.

Wentbridge Viaduct is a road bridge in West Yorkshire, England. The viaduct carries four lanes of the A1 road over the small valley of the River Went at an elevated level, replacing the previous bridge which was down on the valley floor and to the west in the village of Wentbridge. The viaduct, which is made from pre-stressed concrete, was opened in 1961, and is grade II listed.
