Whitgift School

The Croydon Natural History & Scientific Society (CNHSS) is a cultural society based in Croydon, south London, that concerns itself with the local history, archaeology, natural history and geology of the London Borough of Croydon and adjacent areas. It was founded in 1870; and is a registered charity (no 260739).

46 South End, located in South Croydon, is Croydon's oldest surviving shop. The building is Grade II listed, dating back to the 17th century. The building retains its original timber framing and the front has distinctive and attractive elevations. The rear of the building is partly of modern construction. Since 1985 it has been home to Just Flutes, a music shop.

St Giles School was opened in 1925 and was originally sited in Thornton Heath. In 1933 the school moved to Featherbed Lane, Croydon, close to what is now Forestdale and in 1977 it moved to its current site in Pampisford Road. It is a special school located in South Croydon in the London Borough of Croydon, England. The school is a specialist school for physical and sensory needs and is for pupils with physical disabilities and complex medical needs from 4 – 16, and pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) from 11 to 19. The school admits pupils from Croydon and the surrounding boroughs. The school has onsite medical and therapy provision with nurses and healthcare assistants on the school site at all times whilst the pupils are in school.

St Peter's Church is a Grade II listed church in South Croydon, London, England. It was designed by George Gilbert Scott and dedicated in 1851.

South Croydon railway station is in the London Borough of Croydon in south London, in Travelcard Zone 5. It is on the Brighton Line at its junction with the Oxted Line, 11 miles 21 chains (18.1 km) measured from London Bridge.The station is managed by Southern, and the station is served by both Southern and Thameslink services.

South Croydon in south London is the area surrounding the valley south of central Croydon and running as far south as the former Red Deer public house on the Brighton Road. It is bounded by Waddon to the West and Selsdon and Sanderstead to the East. It is part of the South Croydon (CR2) post town and in the London Borough of Croydon. It is essentially a dormitory suburb for Croydon and London.

It is the headquarters of the Communist Party of Britain and Croydon's Labour, Trade Union and Co-operative movements and is itself a co-operative with shareholders from organisations across the four movements.

Selsdon railway station was at the junction of the Croydon, Oxted and East Grinstead Railway and the now-closed Woodside and South Croydon Joint Railway. Opened in 1885 as "Selsdon Road" and it was 2 miles (3.2 km) from Selsdon village.

The South Croydon rail crash on the British railway system occurred on 24 October 1947.The crash took place south of South Croydon railway station. Two electric commuter trains collided in fog and 32 people were killed, including the driver of the second train. It was the worst accident on Britain's Southern Railway. The crash was a rear-end collision caused by a signalman's error. The inexperienced signalman at Purley Oaks forgot about a train from Haywards Heath to London Bridge standing invisible in the fog. The line was protected by the Sykes "Lock and Block" apparatus, which prevented him from allowing another train into the section until the preceding one had left it. However, he believed that the elderly apparatus was faulty and used a release key. This allowed a train from Tattenham Corner to London Bridge into the same section, and they collided near South Croydon Junction. The trains were crowded in the rush hour, carrying 800 and 1000 people respectively, hence the heavy death toll.Similar crashes occurred at Battersea Park in 1937, Barnes in 1955 and Crayford railway station in 1959.

The Croydon Flyover is an overpass located in Croydon, London, England. It is part of the A232 road which connects Orpington with Ewell. The flyover connects Park Lane and the Croydon Underpass, on the A212 road with Duppas Hill Road. It crosses over the A236, Old Town and Southbridge Road and the A212, Lower Coombe Street. The bypass also goes over Croydon High Street close to the Croydon Clocktower. The flyover was constructed as part of an unfinished ring road scheme conceived in the Croydon Plan of 1951 and was opened in 1969. Landmarks passed on the flyover include the Fairfield Halls, a theatre and arts centre. The Wandle Road multi-storey car park is entered via the bypass, and the road passes within sight of the Centrale shopping centre. The nearest tube station is at Morden, six miles to the north-west, although there is a direct tram connection from Croydon to the District line terminus at Wimbledon.The flyover was used as a filming location in Danny Boyle's 2002 horror movie 28 Days Later, although the scene was not used.

Elmhurst School for Boys is an independent day preparatory and pre-preparatory school for boys aged three to eleven located in South Croydon, England. It is the successor to two schools both founded in 1869.
