The Bavarian State Library (German: Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, abbreviated BSB, called Bibliotheca Regia Monacensis before 1919) in Munich is the central "Landesbibliothek", i. e. the state library of the Free State of Bavaria, the biggest universal and research library in Germany and one of Europe's most important universal libraries. With its collections currently comprising around 10.89 million books (as of 2019), it ranks among the best research libraries worldwide. Moreover, its historical stock encompasses one of the most important manuscript collections of the world, the largest collection of incunabula worldwide, as well as numerous further important special collections. Its collection of historical prints before 1850 number almost one million units.The legal deposit law has been in force since 1663, regulating that two copies of every printed work published in Bavaria have to be submitted to the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. This law is still applicable today. The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek furthermore is Europe's second-largest journals library (after the British Library). The BSB publishes the specialist journal Bibliotheksforum Bayern and has been publishing the Bibliotheksmagazin together with the Berlin State Library since 2007. Its building is situated in the Ludwigstrasse.

The Ludwigstraße in Munich is one of the city's four royal avenues next to the Brienner Straße, the Maximilianstraße and the Prinzregentenstraße. Principal was King Ludwig I of Bavaria, the avenue is named in his honour. The city's grandest boulevard with its public buildings still maintains its architectural uniformity envisioned as a grand street "worthy the kingdom" as requested by the king. The Ludwigstraße has served also for state parades and funeral processions.

Herzog-Max-Palais was a neoclassical palace at Ludwigstraße 13 in Munich, Germany. It belonged to the House of Wittelsbach, and was built from 1828 to 1830 for Duke Maximilian Joseph in Bavaria, father of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. In 1937, the palace was destroyed by the Nazi Party in order to widen the Ludwigstraße. The successor construction was started in 1938 by Heinrich Wolff for the Reichsbank and was completed in 1951 for the Deutsche Bundesbank.

The Altstadtring is the innermost ring road of Munich, Bavaria, Germany. With the exception of the northwestern part, it runs roughly along the path of the former second wall of Munich and surrounds Munich's Altstadt. With the exception of the part between Isartor and Sendlinger Tor, it is mostly built with four or five lanes. Because of the loop solution, it is impossible to drive through the Altstadt by motor vehicle, and all motor traffic must use the Altstadtring.
