Packington Hall, Staffordshire

DMS Whittington, otherwise known as Defence Medical Services Whittington (formerly Whittington Barracks), is a military base in Whittington, Staffordshire, near Lichfield in England. It is home to the Staffordshire Regiment Museum, the Headquarters of the Surgeon General and subordinate medical headquarters, and the location of the Defence College of Health Education and Training.

Whittington is a village and civil parish which lies approximately 3 miles south east of Lichfield, in the Lichfield district of Staffordshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 2,591, increasing to 2,603 at the 2011 Census. The parish council is a joint one with Fisherwick. The Coventry Canal borders the village to the north and east.

Whittington Old Hall is a 16th-century mansion house at Whittington, Staffordshire, England, which has been subdivided into separate residential apartments. It is a Grade II* listed building.The house is believed to have been built by the Everard family during the Tudor period. The two-storey entrance front has four gables with dormers and four substantial irregular stone mullioned bays, one offset incorporating a porch. The Astleys and the Dyotts followed as owners but after the Dyott family moved to nearby Freeford Hall, in 1836, the house was let out to a series of tenants. In 1889, the estate was purchased and occupied by architect and brewer Samuel Lipscomb Seckham, developer of Park Town, Oxford and Bletchley Park, and High Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1890. Seckham extended and renovated the house, but following the death of his son Colonel Basset Thorne Seckham in 1926, the estate was sold off, and the house again passed through the hands of tenants. In 1959, the neglected property was sold for redevelopment and was subdivided into several separate residential units.

The Staffordshire Regiment was an Infantry regiment of the British Army, formed in 1959 by the amalgamation of the South Staffordshire Regiment and the North Staffordshire Regiment.The museum is adjacent to Whittington Barracks, the former home of The Staffordshire Regiment's antecedent regiments since 1881, and the current base for the Regimental Headquarters of The Mercian Regiment and the Defence Medical Services. It is located in Whittington, Staffordshire on the A51 Lichfield-Tamworth Road, 3 miles from Lichfield and 4 miles from Tamworth. The museum is 6 miles from the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire.

St Chad's Church is in the village of Hopwas, Staffordshire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Tamworth, the archdeaconry of Lichfield and the diocese of Lichfield. Its benefice is combined with those of St Editha, Tamworth, St Francis, Leyfields, and St Andrew, Kettlebrook. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Swinfen and Packington is a civil parish in Lichfield District, Staffordshire, England. The parish was newly formed in 1934 by division from Weeford. The parish includes the hamlet of Swinfen, and contains several listed buildings, including Packington Hall.

Tamhorn is a rural location in Staffordshire, England, 2½ miles north-west of Tamworth. It was an extra-parochial area in Offlow hundred until 1858, when it became a civil parish. It was annexed to Fisherwick parish in 1934. It had an area 770 acres. The population was 5 in 1841 and 19 in 1931, the last census before its annexation.It lies in the valley of the river Tame adjacent to the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal. The name Tamhorn is Old English meaning a bend in the river Tame or specifically the horn of land formed by the bend.It was mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086) as part of the Bishop of Lichfield's manor. By the later 17th century the settlement consisted only of the manor house, the predecessor of the present Tamhorn Park Farm. Tamhorn was an estate containing 108 acres of woodland and a farm of over 500 acres, which was not included in any parish. In 1827 the estate was bought by Sir Robert Peel, later Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The house on the estate, now known as Tamhorn Park Farm, was built in the early 18th century in a L-shape, but later that century it was enlarged changing the shape to a square.

Hopwas is a village in Staffordshire, England. It lies along the North West borders of Tamworth Borough (along the River Tame to the east and Dunstall Lane to the south of Hopwas) and 5 miles (8 km) east of Lichfield. It is situated where the A51 road crosses both the River Tame and the Coventry Canal. Although adjacent to the Borough of Tamworth, the village is part of the parish of Wigginton and Hopwas within Lichfield District.

Tamworth is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament, based on the town of Tamworth in Staffordshire, England. The seat is currently represented by Sarah Edwards of the Labour Party, following a by-election in October 2023. Fisherwick is a civil parish in Lichfield District, Staffordshire, England. Located about 4 miles (6 km) east of the City of Lichfield, the parish does not include a village, just a scattered collection of farms and houses. The ancient settlement, dating back to the 12th century, and the manor of Fisherwick Park no longer exist. The parish council is a joint one with Whittington.

Hints is a small village and civil parish between Lichfield and Tamworth in southeastern Staffordshire, within Lichfield local government district. The village is on the line of Watling Street, which was formerly the A5, but the A5 now runs in a cutting north of the village. The name of the parish council is Hints with Canwell. The parish church is dedicated to St Bartholomew.The name Hints appears to derive from the Welsh word hynt, meaning 'a road' (referring to Watling Street). This suggests that the area was occupied by Welsh speakers until at least the late 6th century, when most of the Midlands had been occupied by the English. The centre of Hints is situated 200 metres north of Bourne Brook (aka Black Brook), a western tributary of the River Tame, and nearby villages include Hopwas, Weeford and [[Drayton Bassett] Nearby Twycross Zoo was founded in 1963 by pet shop owners Molly Badham and Natalie Evans, after the pair's increasing zoological collection outgrew their three-quarter-acre site in Hints, Staffordshire Physician and author Sir John Floyer (1649–1734) was born in Hints.
