Sibford Gower

Sibford (or The Sibfords) is the collective name given to the villages of Sibford Gower, Sibford Ferris and Burdrop on the edge of the Cotswolds in north Oxfordshire. The villages are contiguous and sit on either side of the Sib Valley, close to the Warwickshire border. 'Sibford' is commonly used to refer to the group of settlements and outlying farms, and is the name of the Cherwell District Council ward for the area. The name means "fording place of the River Sib." The Sibfords share their amenities, with the village hall, pub and primary school located in Sibford Gower; the church in Burdrop; and the village shop and Sibford School located in Sibford Ferris.

Swalcliffe is a village and civil parish about 5 miles (8 km) west of Banbury in Oxfordshire. The parish is about 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) long north–south and about 1 mile (1.6 km) east–west. The 2011 Census recorded the population of the modern Swalcliffe parish as 210. The toponym "Swalcliffe" comes from the Old English swealwe and clif, meaning a slope or cliff frequented by swallows. The ancient parish of Swalcliffe was larger than the present civil parish, and included the townships of East Shutford, Epwell, Sibford Ferris, Sibford Gower and West Shutford.

Swalcliffe Park School is a specialist residential and day school in Oxfordshire, England for boys aged 11–19 who have needs arising from their Autistic Spectrum conditions. In day and residential settings, the school emphasises the development of students' communication, independence, self-management and personalised achievement. It has received three consecutive 'Outstanding' Ofsted ratings, in 2008, 2012 and 2015. Many pupils have additional needs associated with other diagnoses; e.g. ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia or Specific Language Impairment. Swalcliffe Park School is run by the Swalcliffe Park School Trust, a registered charity. It is housed in Swalcliffe Park, a Grade II listed former stately home originally built in the 16th century and remodelled in the 18th century.

Shutford is a village and civil parish about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) west of Banbury in Oxfordshire. The village is about 475 feet (145 m) above sea level. In 1870–72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Shutford like this: "SHUTFORD, a chapelry in Swalcliffe parish, Oxford; 5 miles W of Banbury r. station. It has a postal pillar-box under Banbury. Acres, 640. Real property, £2,840. Pop., 386. Houses, 98. The living is annexed to Swalcliffe. The church was repaired in 1841. There are chapels for Wesleyans and Primitive Methodists."The name Shutford is derived from Scytta's Ford. In the fourteenth century the village was quite large. 20 people were assessed for tax in 1327. In 1377 there were 86. A fire in 1701 destroyed 24 houses. Some houses were rebuilt and modernised. In 1774 71 houses were recorded. In the Middle Ages there were 3 manors in Shutford. The manor house appears to have been built in the 16th century. In the Civil War, Viscount Saye and Sele supported the Parliamentarians. Plush and shag weaving was established in 1747 and became the village's main claim to fame.

Burdrop is a village in Sibford Gower civil parish, about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) west of Banbury in Oxfordshire, England. Burdrop is contiguous with Sibford Gower and sometimes considered part of the village. Burdrop's toponym means the "hamlet near the burh", which implies it was near a fortified settlement.

Tadmarton is a village and civil parish about 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Banbury, Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 541, which is a 26% increase on the figure of 430 recorded by the 2001 Census.

Sibford Ferris is a village and civil parish about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) west of Banbury in Oxfordshire. It is on the south side of the Sib valley opposite its larger sister village, Sibford Gower. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 476.

Sibford School is a British co-educational independent school in Sibford Ferris, west of Banbury in north Oxfordshire, linked with the Religious Society of Friends. The school has both day and boarding pupils between the ages of 3 and 18. It is one of seven Quaker schools in England.

Banbury was a rural district in Oxfordshire, England from 1894 to 1974. It was formed under the Local Government Act 1894 from the bulk of the Banbury rural sanitary district, which had been divided among three counties. The Warwickshire part of the rural sanitary district (except for the Warwickshire part of the parish of Mollington, which joined Oxfordshire) formed the Farnborough Rural District, whilst the area in Northamptonshire formed the Middleton Cheney Rural District. It covered the rural area north, west and south of Banbury. The district expanded in 1932 by taking in part of the disbanded Woodstock Rural District. Until 1952 the council was based in Banbury. In 1952 the council acquired Bodicote House to be its headquarters, being a large eighteenth century house in the village of Bodicote, immediately south of Banbury. Following the council's abolition in 1974 the building became the main offices of its successor, Cherwell District Council. The district was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, and now forms part of the Cherwell district of Oxfordshire.

Epwell is a village and civil parish in the north of Oxfordshire about 6 miles (10 km) west of Banbury. The 2011 Census recorded the parish population's as 285. Epwell's toponym is believed to be derived from the Old English Eoppa's Well.

Shenington with Alkerton is a civil parish in Oxfordshire, England. It comprises the village of Shenington, which was an exclave of Gloucestershire until the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844 transferred it to Oxfordshire (grid reference SP370425) and the village of Alkerton, which was always part of Oxfordshire (grid reference SP375425). It covers 9.60 km2 and as at the 2011 census had a population of 425 people.

Shenington is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Shenington with Alkerton, in the Cherwell district, in the county of Oxfordshire, England. It is about 5 miles (8 km) west of Banbury, it was an exclave of Gloucestershire until the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844 transferred it to Oxfordshire. Shenington is on Oxfordshire's boundary with Warwickshire. Shenington was an ancient parish of 1,628 acres (659 ha). In 1961 the parish had a population of 232. On 1 April 1970 the parish was abolished and merged with Alkerton to form "Shenington with Alkerton".
