Gmina Nowy Wiśnicz is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Bochnia County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the town of Nowy Wiśnicz, which lies approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) south of Bochnia and 40 km (25 mi) south-east of the regional capital Kraków. The gmina covers an area of 82.49 square kilometres (31.8 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 12,895 (out of which the population of Nowy Wiśnicz amounts to 2,716, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 10,179). The gmina contains part of the protected area called Wiśnicz-Lipnica Landscape Park.

Located 4 miles (6 kilometres) south of Bochnia, Nowy Wiśnicz is renowned for its Italianate fortified castle which dominates the skyline.

Nowy Wiśnicz Castle – a castle located on a forested hill by the River Leksandrówka in the village of Stary Wiśnicz, Lesser Poland Voivodeship; in Poland. The castle was raised by Jan Kmita in the second half of the fourteenth century. The castle was built in the Baroque architectural style with Renaissance elements. The castle was built on the plan of the quadrilateral with the inner courtyard. The castle has four towers, with one in each corner. The castle is surrounded by bastion fortifications and the main gate from the early 17th century.

The Bochnia Salt Mine (Polish: Kopalnia soli Bochnia) in Bochnia, Poland, is one of the oldest salt mines in the world and is the oldest commercial company in Poland. The Bochnia salt mine was established in 1248 after salt had been discovered there in the 12th and 13th centuries, and became part of the royal mining company, Żupy krakowskie (Kraków Salt Works). In 1990, the mine ceased producing salt but remains a tourist attraction. In 1981 the Bochnia salt mine was declared a heritage monument. It is one of Poland's official national Historic Monuments (Pomnik historii), as designated on 6 October 2000, and is overseen by the National Heritage Board of Poland. The chapel in the mine has train tracks running through it.
